Louie Louie

That was some pretty racy stuff back in the day. grin
They didn't make the top 100 of all-time...they came up in the top 200-300 though wink
That list must have been made by a golden oldys rock station.

Agree, some hardly touch rock on the music scale.
Probably...what are your favorites?
Hey You Get off my Cloud the Rolling Stones

There have been so many great songs over the years, just not recently wink

Never understood why Stairway to Heaven is so highly regarded.

The song just flat sucks.
Most assuredly agree with Sam...
Bob Segar

All of Segar's songs sound the same. smile

Huh? How can a song be racy if no one can understand the lyrics?
Anyway, even though I've devoted my entire adult life to enjoying and performing Country and Bluegrass music, I do have a favorite Rock song: Highway Star by Deep Purple.
Also, when I was a teen in the late 1960's, I thought the group Canned Heat was pretty cool.
Just about anything from the Clash prior to Combat Rock.
Probably "White Man in Hammersmith Palais" from their first US released album.
Always liked "Go back home" by Stephen Stills[ with Eric Clapton on 2nd quitar]. Whew; Canned Heat, hadn't heard that name in a while! Tom
I wouldn't call all that stuff "Rock". I've always wondered the same about "Stairway". Regardless of what you think of the song, I've just never even considered it one of those "classic" songs that you heard so much you can't get it out of your head. It wasn't that big when I was growing up. Seems like the oldies stations got ahold of it about the time I was in college in the 80's and it really took off.

Of those mentioned, I dunno. Dust in the Wind by Kansas was the theme of our senior prom. Born to Be Wild has to be on about anybody's list. Hotel California, You Shook Me All Night Long and are perennial favorites. Is Welcome to the Jungle on there? What about Back on the Chain Gang?
Freebird and Layla are my personal favorites. There are so many good ones from the past, it's hard to come up with less than 50 "gotta haves".
Show me the way - Frampton (Frampton comes alive, 1999 video, studio versions)
Peaceful easy feeling - Eagles
Whenever God shines His Light - Van Morrison
Brown eyed girl
Pretty woman - Roy Orbison
Only the lonely
Para bailar la bamba
Waiting for a girl like you - Foreiner

Jambala -Fogerty and Hank Williams versions
Centerfield

Everything by CCR

Ring of fire
Boy named sue - Johnny Cash

Just wlk away Renee - Left Banke

Green Grass and High Tides The Outlaws.
You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC

Anything by Leon Russell, Talking Heads, James McMurtry, Willie, Waylon, Johnny Paycheck or the Allman Bros.
"You Got Me Under Pressure" - ZZ Top
"I Know A Little". We enjoyed Steve Gaines performing this in SE KS long before he joined Lynard Skynard. Steve also did a great rendition of "Blackjack Davey". I was an old man before I found out that he didn't write it, it's a Bob Dillon song. Life is good.
HuntKY
Do you know about the "Hank Wilson's Back" album? It's right behind behind "Outlaws" on my top two country rock albums.

What is 54?

I"m partial to the Eagles so it be 24 for me.
Come on nobody even mentions three of the best ever!
Cowboy Song - Thin Lizzy
Thunderstruck - ACDC
Enter Sandman - Metallica
I do like kashmir by led zeppelin.
Iron Maiden Ace's High, I love hearing the Churchill speech at the beginning!

Metallica's old stuff is cool, I personally couldn't stand anything after Master of Puppet's. I also Dig Anthrax!
I retired after 32 yrs with the electric co in 1999. I had to work 1/2 day on my last day. I dialed up the distribution operator, 150 mi away, punched the button on my jambox, and keyed the mic on my truck. Everyone on the system got to hear Johnny Paycheck singing "Take this job and shove it". Like my wedding, my children's births, and my first 8# bass, I'll never forget it.
That's a classic Country Song, I also have one called "My boss is a Jerk". grin
The Trooper is pretty awesome too! Cool thing about Iron maiden, the lead singer Bruce Dickenson is considered one of the English Armor experts in England. He loves history and is a licensed Commercial Airline pilot. cool

Yes I do....Leon released "Hank Wilson's Back" in '73 or '74 I believe. Leon is an absolute legend, my all-time favorite. He can barely walk now, but he still rocks the keyboard/piano like nobody else.
Any list without Gimme Shelter at the top, or damned near it, isn't one I think much of. :p

Will
Stones "Gimme Shelter" has the best vocals! Wow ,who is that woman?
Also a vote for Rush "YYZ"
Merry Clayton, a gospel singer that someone had heard and recommended. Good choice wasn't it?

Will
This is good too,Great playing plus Shannon Hoons voice is awesome.

Any "best/greatest rock song" list that has Aretha, Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys, etc. has no credibility in my book.

Best is too much of a personal thing, though I'm thinking the top ten should include something by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, GNR, Motley Crue, Metallica, AC/DC, etc. That is just my opinion, though.

My personal top five:

1. Metallica - Ride The Lightning
2. Guns 'N Roses - You Could Be Mine
3. Motley Crue - Wild Side
4. Alice in Chains - Man in the Box
5. Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears

Metallica's old stuff is awesome in that it is more edgier, faster, and in your face. Anthrax is definitely good tunes!

I can definitely agree with that. I've never seen the allure that some have with that song. Perhaps one has to be using hallucinogens to fully appreciate it or something?
Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, Celtic Frost and Slayer were mainstays of my High School music, I also dug quite a bit of Punk, DK, ST, Circle Jerks.............
I know some of you won't care for this at all. Oh well, different tastes. wink

anything by JJ Cale will work
Some good stuff but a lot that I don't think should be there.

And they missed both Heart and The Doobie Brothers.

Dale
Anything Zappa blow's them all away
Free Bird!
W.A.S.P. Wild Child

GNR great band that really kicked of the 80's rock.
Beatles, stones, doors, etal suck
Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers' version. Best slow dance song ever written.
