I opened a box of Berger bullets purchased from Midway, one of two ordered at the same time. Both .17s. Ihad used up the first and opened up the second to find a typed note inside that said,"don't worry! We have opened your product in order to photo it's contents. Midway keeps a picture of everything we sell for out data base, etc.......''
The minor problem was that there were two different types of bullets in the box!!! A call to Midway confirmed that it was their practice of opening things up for photos before shipping. Of course Midway denies responsibility for the mixing of bullets. It is really no problem to me because both types weigh 20 grains and one appears to be MEF. Out of curiosity I email Berger who immediately responded with an offer to replace everything, which is not necessary, but appreciated. They asked me to send them the note from Midway which I did, along with the bullet box that had been resealed. Carla at Berger was very responsive and had to be talked out of sending out bullets to me. Pretty fine service and great products too.
What do you think of this picture deal on Midway's part. Why take a pic of an opened box of bullets? Has anyone else ever expeienced this?

I can not understand why Midway would open the box to take a picture of them - I am sure if they really wanted to know what a Berger looked like they could contact Berger. As to the denial of mixing the bullets - I have heard only good things from Midway- I am curious as to why they wouldn't go good on it.

I wonder if Berger will have words with Midway over it? It seems weird that the one box that was opened "for photographs" was the one that wasn't kosher. Berger (as it is now costing them money) may not like that fact!

Haven't ordered any bullets from Midway in the past 3 years, but none have ever arrived with the seal broken, near's I can tell.

That is very strange...Think I would take it up the line at Midway. I've bought lots of boxes of bullets from Midway and never had such an experience. Doesn't sound right to me...but maybe there's a good explanation.

If ya look on MidwayUSA's site, under their reloading section, you'll see that they try to post a picture example of the bullet next to the name and description of what it is. A customer service thing, I'd assume.

As far as a renegade bullet in a batch, I'd chalk that up to a simple mistake. Of the many, many boxes of bullets I've purchased from Midway over the years, I did have a box of 7mm 140 gr. Ballistic Tips that shipped with one 140 gr. Partition included. It was a .277 caliber bullet, ta-boot. Rare indeed, but mistakes happen.

Inspection of bullets is part of my regular reloading regiment, but these rarely occuring Midway mistakes make it even more necessary. Later. >> klallen

I've been dealing with Midway for many years and i've only had one bad experience with them. I bought a Timney trigger from them and low and behold when i recieved it the trigger had been opened and it was evident that the trigger had been installed in a firearm and taken back out. Midway quickly responded and made it right by sending me another trigger. They told me that someone must have returned that trigger and it somehow got put back out in the warehouse as a stock item. As for bullets i've never had any problems with their bullets at all.

No harm done with this deal but I have a vague uncertain urge to be dissatisfied with recieving a 'store sample'. I have since found a place Called 'Arms and Ammo' for near wholesale relaoding components. It is not too far for me to drive to once in a while and pick up a load. The local sporting goods store gets 22 bucks for a box of MK 7mm 168. Arms and Ammo sells them for just under 19.

My line of thinking was that it might of been the first box of those type of bullets they took delivery on, used the photo for their catalog. Whom ever took the photo's might not be edjumicated in bullets, put the wrong one onto the boxes <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Last week I recieved some Sierra bullets from Midway....One of the boxes was opened I called Midway they said that they will not/do not ship bullets when the boxes have been opened...They advised they probably "opened up" during shipping...I told them there was no way as the box had been opended up with a knife or something sharpe...a different story than you recieved...they offered to take them back, however, I just went through and spot checked them and everything seemed o.k....Since I read your posting I am going to send them back!...Thanks JJS

A couple years back, I placed a order with midway for bullets they came by postal mail, when I opened the box which was in rough shape, A box of bullets was opened and they were all loose in the shipping box, and there were some missing as they fell out a hole in the shipping box. I called them and told them about the way I received my order. They immediately told me they would send me a replacement free of charge, which they did. I would think the factory seal was unopened when shipped, but they did not use enough packing material in the box, so the box of bullets bounced around and the factory seal let go.

I often get packages that could have used more packing material, This is a very important part of the shipping process which people over look. Very careless indeed.
