a check of their posts under their user names is very revealing. all the posts by one such poster are on political topics. all but 5 or 6 by another are on political topics.
agenda, anyone?
Kind of why I suggested a seperate political forum a little while back but most were against the idea.
On a sponsored prairie-dog shoot several years ago, I was by far the senior shooter among a crowd of much younger gun writers and editors. It was downright depressing to see how quickly any gun-related topic fell to the side, overwhelmed by the prevalent topics of the stock market, professional football and basketball, and modern "music." Made the absence of old friends Elmer Keith, Bill Jordan, John Amber, Bob Milek, Bob Wallack, et alii, even more grievous. In the good ol' days, all the chat would've been meaty, pithy talk about guns, hunting, loads, etc. There's no lonelier place than a crowd where you and your interests don't belong.

... except a crowd where the talk is dominated or hijacked by a few who just want to argue about anything and everything that comes-up.
So, true!

I have a rule that anybody that gets into my boat talks hunting, fishing, shooting, and other outdoor stuff.

No Politics, religion, or anything else allowed, Thank you very much!
Works too, nobody likes walking home!

I have a very good- maybe best friend- who is a died-in-the wool-Democrat (He claims Bill Clinton was the best President the nation has ever had). Otherwise, he is an intelligent person. He's banned me from talking politics at his house. Most of his friends/common visitors are like-minded with himself. I think he has told them the same, about politics, when we are coming over. Politics seldom gets mentioned in our get-togethers, and we have some fine times!

He has a helluva good wet bar in his basement, tho. The Bass Ale distributor told him he is his second-best customer.
Bud said he never knew how many friends he had 'til he put that tap in.

Maybe the above-mentioned posters just need a little lube!
I put those gents on ignore. They say nothing that pertains to hunting or shooting. I enjoy the campfire more when I can't hear what they are saying. I'm glad I got that off my chest. 757
Just because there is a thread posted don't mean that I got to read it does it?
November will be here in a while and then the politicing will be all over one way or the other, good or bad, right or wrong which ever way it looks from your individual stand point.
Endeavor to endure until then.

Thanks for the reminder --

There'll be no wet bar -- no alcohol, for obvious reasons -- when we open the Powley Center* for visiting shooters.

Alternative secondary attractions that I'm contemplating are a big-screen TV (especially for big events like the World Series and Bowl games), a full-size pool table -- and for sure a big barbecue, tables for a modest "show 'n' swap" array of visitors' goodies, and plenty of good gnawin' 'n' chawin' grub in addition to a constant supply of good coffee. I'd like to include a trap pit for Crazy Quail too. But no Trap or Skeet range.

Votes and suggestions solicited, of course.

*ballistics lab, shooting range, tunnel, library, interactive museum of modern handloading, etc
When I hit the lotto - 5 stand course will be built right off the deck in the backyard!!

Well, that's a fact but as is common for the Pro-Iraq crown, like the HFU (that one is for AFP), you've misstated the facts and named the wrong group. My thread display runs 60 to a page. A quick and not totally guaranteed count of the threads on the first page of my campfire display finds 21 TWENTY-ONE out of the 60 threads displayed that are mostly related to Iraq in one way or another.

Of those 21, 3 were started by Fish 280, 3 by Ken Howell, 3 by T Lee and 1 by myself, IIFID. In the actual threads in the initial post, ALL but mine, which was really a comment on the coming Presidential election and Zogby's prediction about it, but I counted it to be fair, were pro-Iraq in one way or another. Even T Lee's threads in these threads were not negative. So let's see, 21 threads started, 20 are started with pro-Iraq war sentiments, and YOU ARE COMPLAINING about the dearth of interest on shooting, hunting, or optics (which have their own sections, duh). It is to laugh.

So......FISH280 the obvious conclusion is, if you don't like threads on Iraq, then you and any other complainers should quit starting all those threads about Iraq and stick to "shooting, hunting, and optics". Don't start them and I and others won't comment on the misstatements that are often in them.

PS: Steve NO:

tap, tap, tap (that's shoes on the floor) thud, thud, thud, (that's fingers drumming), I'm still waiting for that Bush quote to prove that you weren't lying.
Wow, and I was going to say something about casting the first stone. Oh well, not the first time I been a day late and a dollar short!
That's not the problem IFID, the posts are fine, it's the replies to the posts that are the problem. How dare you question anything they say, or voice your ideas on the topics they start. From now on, unless you totally agree with what the original poster is saying, please refrain from voicing your opinion if it runs contrary to what the original poster believes.

After all IFID, you know you force them all to read your replies to their posts, and only they deserve to exercise their right to freeedom of speech. Heil Bush!

you have actual interests that go well byond the politics of late, and are a solid participant in normal campifire stuff. it does not matter a hoot whether you agree with me or not, or i agree with you or not on politics. you still have bona fides in others areas that are germane. some of hese "other" guys have no interest except for pushing their agendas.

I have no agenda so to speak except to comment on what I believe is wrong. I could care less whether a man prefers a .270 or a 30-06 to hunt deer. I found this site because of my interest in hunting and shooting. I most of the boards avidly, I just see little reason to insert any comment when someone is talking about their latest purchase of .270 wsm and how it performs a little bit better than the 7mm wsm they bought last week.

The war, on the other hand, concerns me. I am sorry that I don't meet your test for legitimacy. I suppose in order to do that, I must support GW in all that he does. (by the way, unless you are from Texas I guarantee you that I have voted more times for the SOB than you)

The thing that makes me most angry about Bush, is that he is making it so easy for a liberal Democrat to get elected. When that happens, the liberal Democrat (be it Kerry or Hillary in 2008) will take all the tools (patriot act, catostrophic debt, etc...) and institute a reign of high taxation and loss of civil liberties like we have never seen. Hopefully, I am wrong, but I doubt it.
