Anybody have a phone on one of these plans? If so, pro's/cons?

I have an extra razor (no sim card) laying around and can I just pay the 50-60bucks/month for that thing as a no contract?

I have gone no contract bu just buying a phone and hooking it to a service. I also have been out of contract a couple of times. Trying to get that way now.

Yup I use Boost mobile $50 a month unlimited everything, use any nextel phone you want.

Pros: cheap, no bs fees, same coverage as if I was on sprint/nextell

cons: pay full price for the phones, no insurance, not a lot of customer support.

You would be better off just buying a new phone from one of the no contract providers. If Sprint offers good coverage in your area Virgin Mobile is a good way to go. $150 for an Android 2.2 phone with plans that start at $25; or $199 for a Blackberry that starts at $35. If Verizon offers better coverage in your area the Straight Talk phones/plans that are sold at Walmart are a good deal also.

We got a couple of them for the kids, and had trouble adding minutes to them.

We did just switch to AT&T, $100/month for 4 phones, unlimeted mobil to mobil, unlimited texting, unlimite down south on weekends and ~700 min/month. I hate the contracts, but haven't found a better alternative.

We switched from ACS, they have good coverage, but their customer service was lacking.

Thanks guys,

Paul, thats the same way I feel with GCI. Customer service sucks and tonight was the last straw.

I just ordered a phone through AT&T. My work phone is through AT&T and simply they all suck up here so if I'm gonna pay 50-60/month prepaid, I figure I may as well get a free phone out of it. Contracts suck but life goes on.

Our contract is up through GCI and as soon as she gets her phone, they are done.
We have Tracfone that we buy 60 minutes for 90 days.I have trouble using even all them and phones cost $20. No problems.
If it was just for me, Trac Fone or one of the others would be cheaper, and just fine. I don't do much texting, and don't use the phone all that much. I think I'd have little trouble getting by for about $20.00 a month, but with myself, my wife, two kids who do lots of texting, we have to go with a "plan." The kids barely talk to anyone any more-heck my daughter will sit in the back seat with her friend and text each other in stead of talking.
I use ATT for my iPhone. I also have a Verizon pay as you go phone for those times I am in areas that ATT does not have coverage.
When my current contract with ATT is up in Dec, I'll be canceling coverage, and switching totally to Verizon.

Another vote for Verizon pay-as-you-go. I built up enough carryover minutes at $15 a month that they told me I no longer have to pay at all except for a $15 a year payment to keep the account active. Yup, it costs me $15 a year.

I'm about a month into the pre-paid Straight Talk plan. I got the 30 dollar per month all-you-need-plan (1k minutes/1k texts and 32mb of web per mo) --- just perfect for me. My phone uses the Verizon Towers.... Can't beat that IMO.
