For some of the youngsters, music used to be purchased in a store. The album covers could be works of art on their own and sometimes censored.

Regarding this list, in my opinion, just the name of some of the artists automatically disqualify 'em regardless of what the cover looks like.

I always though Molly Hatchet had cool album covers. ZZ Top's "Legs" is rather nice too.
Here's a good one. Wish I had a better image.

And another I've always admired...

I always favored the YES covers painted by Roger Dean.

Winner
Ween: Chocolate and Cheese

great album cover, and really worked for the sorority girls circa 1984..

[Linked Image]
I've always been partial to Physical graffiti's cover.
[Linked Image]

I like this one....

Always thought this one was creative.... cool

Pettibon did lots of great stuff for Black Flag.
I remember seeing Buckingham Nicks, Stevie was fine in her prime!

CBS Sunday Morning interviewed Herb. One of the best I've seen btw. According to him, that album cover was one of his finest moments. Both he and his wife are still working to revive inner-city fine arts.

But Quicksilver Messenger Service ... "HAPPY TRAILS"
Album Cover is the best ever.

Might even remind one one of an old Frederic Remington
Wild West painting.

Didn't initially look at who posted this, but when I got to 'Still Got The Blues' I knew it had to be WCB. Man, would I love to copy the music off of your hard drive!

Was gonna say the band 'Ohio Players' had a few of the nastiest covers my innocent eyes was ever aware of ...... confused

"Honey" being demonstrated above.

And there was also the band that did "Cherry Pie," featuring a really young nymphette in a really sexy 'diner's waitress' unifiorm, far more risque than any school girl or 'Catholic' school uniform.

Also the band Steppenwolffe even had an album jacket featuring a penis-car made from a sportscar ..... !

But that [German] Jimi Hendrix cover beats them all methinks.
What is it with sports writers and art critics? Do they all go to snark school?

great thread, kinda surprising how many of the albums I had that were on the RS top 100
