My son and I went canoeing down the Buttahatchie this past Saturday here in Hamilton, Alabama. Had a great time and the weather was perfect. Here is some pics of our trip.

i hear banjos... row faster!
No fishing on this trip.
Beautiful river.
Looks like good father and son time. Thanks for sharing.

I'm kinda jealous, you've got leaves. wink
Very nice pictures. I love those trips. Fall is such a gorgeous time to be out on the water... bugs are down, leaves are in their prime colors, and the aluminum hatches of summer with their drunken noisemakers are no more.

This was the first year in several that I didn't get out for some of that... now I'm REALLY kicking myself!

Thanks for sharing!
I spent many wonderful hours in my teen years canoing rivers that looked much like that.

Thanks for the memories.
Looks good. A time that neither of you will forget.

My son and I did several Good Friday floats in Arkansas on the Buffalo and the Mulberry. I did those floats for years with the same group. I had a little trailer that had homemade tree racks for 6 canoes with old car seatbelt tiedowns and storage for the gear in a large box. Spring was usually fast water.
Nice trip. Last few years I have got into fishing and camping from kayaks or solo canoes on rivers.
I have some friends here in town that float/fish/camp in MO, usually on the Gasconade. They all have the narrow 2-3 person 20' flat bottom trout boats. They can pack enough to stay for a short week and have some great smallmouth fishing. I think that they use small electric trolling motors for long flat water, but moters are seldom used.

Made my heart jump to read Buttahatchie. I live at and fish the other end. We live very close to where it runs into the Tombigbee. Love that wild river...
I made one trip up to Hamilton, AL back when I was a student at MSU a few years ago and spent the day fishing with two other good friends and Clay Dyer. We fished the morning from his boat in some reservoir and the afternoon wade fishing the Buttahatchie. Very cool day and a beautiful river!

Pretty country, looks like you had a good time!
Is this the same Buttahachie river that flows through Eastern Mississipi? In the early 70s there was much talk about the Corps Of Enginners channelizing much of that river.
that is the one. Never was channeled except for about 100yds at the mouth. Great littlr river...

Glad to hear that. Drifted it once. Beautiful. Squirrel hunted its banks many times in the late 60s.
