Speaking of Derby day...my wife stumbled across this video of the actual match race between these horses. Hollywood is famous for rewriting anything and everything so it doesn't in the least resemble the original, but this one is different. If this was in color, they could have dubbed it into the movie and we'd never know the difference. They must have used this video and did all they could to be duplicate it.

Part of our family lore is that my dad used to take the bets from where he worked to the bookie. He talked my mom into betting on the "sure thing" - War Admiral (along w/ everyone else in the East). She NEVER bet on another horse.

Dan Patch was one hell of a horse! I did a report on him when I was in HS!

The movie "Secretariat" did a good job of replicating the real races as well (you can find the real races on Youtube, etc.). It's an excellent movie - we have watched the movie several times.
