Had an encounter with a Bunny Hugger today!

I was standing in line at a local 'mart store with 2 boxes of 20guage shells.

The woman (early 40's) behind says in a condesending tone [color:"blue"] " You aren't going to shot Bambi are you?"

[/color]
I responded with [color:"blue"] "No, but if his parents should present a shot during the appropriate season I would probably take it." [/color]

Then with a look of disgust, and a holier-than-thou tone she says [color:"blue"] " I can't see how anyone could shoot a deer, they are so cute." [/color]

I thought for a brief moment and said, [color:"blue"]"Well lady, if cuteness was a prerequisite for living you would have been dead along time ago."
[/color]

She huffed, took up her stuff and moved to another line.

Ah well, I guess I didn't do a good job of trying to "convert" her.

Well done! Had the same encounter once almost verbatim only I replied "no but I'd shoot Bambi's momma"... wonder if it was the same lady???

You were VERY tactful!! I on the other hand am totally lacking. In a similar encounter I responded by saying I'd NEVER shoot Bambi becuz the black bears and coyotes needed all the young meat they could get.

Great comeback! Reminds me of a story involving Winston Churchill and the very prominate socialite Mary Astor. They were seated together at a state dinner when Churchill was served a decanter of Brandy and a glass after dinner. Astor hated men who drank! Some people need to be educated about hunting and some couldn't be learned up if they went to school every day. Those just need to be hit between the eyes and move on.

I'd say Steelhead identified his target took aim and hit the bull. Good job man.

There was another one where he told a lady she was ugly and she told him he was drunk and he replied that in the morning he would be sobor, but she would still be ugly. tom

Tact has never been one of my strengths. If anything I tend to be brutally honest.

Man I would have loved to have been there just to see her reaction.

When people ask me if I'm going to shoot Bambi I always tell them the same thing. Bambi was an animated character in a fictional story. Not much there to shoot.

Another occasion Churchill was said to say to Lady Astor 'Tonight I'm drunk and you are ugly. Tomorrow I shall be sober.'

As a mater of fact I was confronted by a hugger yeasterday too...

I was in Basspro which is part of the local mall... Anyway I had no intrest in going into the main part of the mall, but my wife went with me to do some shopping... anyway After I was done getting my bow worked on I took it to the car and came back in to the mall to look for my wife.

I was wearing a "Buck Wear" t shirt that says "Take only trophies, leave only gut piles"... While walking through the mall... A lady said that she was appaled by my t shirt and couldn't believe that I would wear it in public...

I replied, "Well , I'm appalled by your looks so I guess we're both intitled to our opinions". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I once mentioned to a colleague that I was going to spend the weekend dove hunting.

His wife asked, "How can you kill god's creatures?"

I replied, "I don't, all of His creatures fly more than 40 yards away."

I had a friend who's wife didn't like him hunting. Whenever he went out he told her he was "Going to go shoot Bambi in the face." Nothing like some overkill to end a conversation...
