The wife and I took our male dog to the vet today, sounds like he either has mast cell cancer spreading though his lymph nodes or lymphoma. Hes in good shape still, but we wouldnt let them chop into his back leg to take a lymph out, not gonna put the poor guy through chemo, just put him on prednisone benedryl and pepcid. we'll give him that stuff to make the lymph nodes go down and we'll keep him well fed, well loved, and spoiled till his quality of life starts to go away.

[bleep] day, i love my dogs more than most people i know, but time to start coming to grips with whats eventually going to happen.

That really sucks. I hope you are able to share some good times with the time left.

Good-looking dog. I feel for you, friend.
Damn sorry to hear. Ill say some prayers for your buddy
Thanks guys, he's whats left of 50+years of breeding that started with my grandfather, best tempered most solid attitude'd dog i;ve ever been around. Gonna be tough with he has to take his trip to the rainbow bridge.
I am so very sorry. Sending up prayers for your buddy, and you and your wife.
Sorry about your friend acooper1983, enjoy the time you have left together and make it memorable.

Sorry to hear that. I can get how you feel about the dogs. We consider ours to be better than a majority of people we know.
I'm so sorry. I echo Jeff's statement. My dogs are far better than most of the people walking around. I've been through that 'valley' several times and it's never easy.

Soli Deo Gloria!
I am so sorry to hear this. Here is hoping you get the most out of the time that you have left with him.

acooper1983 - such sad news. I wish you and your dog the best, but this sort of thing is never good. I wish you and him the best possible, whatever that may be.
Thanks everyone, I guess its selfish to wish that I had bred him, but i did not, There are to many bully breeds out there and to many idiots that own them and dont know how to train them so i made the decision when he was young to not breed

Kelsey and I really appreciates everyones kind words. He is in good health at the moment but we dont know how long thats gonna last, so he's getting spoiled, he's laying with me on the couch as I type this, eyeing the bag of venison jerky on my lap. Hug your pets tight.

dogs are as much a part of the family as the kids are. Prayers for your pal.
Lost this special girl to the same thing last year. Synthetic fertilizers / weed killers on my yard seem to be the likely culprit. frown

Prayers for your boy.
BP...

Man, I hate opening these threads. 'Hope he stays pain free for a long, long time. Prayers sent from Minnesota.
I agree completely with your approach. Sorry to hear he's coming to his last days. Great looking dog. Reminds me very much of the best pal I lost two years ago about this time to cancer. He was twelve.

Sorry to hear, still miss my Jack I put down a year ago. My best friend for 14 1/2 years

Similar situation, regret putting her on prednisone (nasty $hit). Best wishes...

Prednisone gave my buddy about an extra six weeks of feeling well after his cancer diagnosis. Brought him back from the brink of death to feeling and acting his old self again, and it was able to do that for about six weeks with gradually increasing doses, till it stopped working, then he crashed fast. You have to have a vet put your dog down as soon as prednisone stops working, because they go down fast after that. You can't delay at that point. Not even by a day.
