73% of Canadians disapprove of BUSH
38% of Canadians think Bush is more dangerous than Usama bin Laden

(S0, it would appear that the number of Islamo-Fascists massed North of the U.S. border would be near 38%, according to my math)
Hmm... keeping in mind that Fox news isn't always the most objective...

I'm not surprised at the disapproval rating (a bit higher than I would have guessed, but then again, I'm not yout typical leftie canuck) but the other number sounds either cooked, or taken straight from Ontario which is a real breeding ground for political knobs.
Whenever I see FOX I assume its a joke. That's all that network is.

RO
let's see that totals 111% just about right for the products of liberal education, you know kalifornia, Washington St, Canada. Some body voted more than once.....

Actually, I believe they had 73% against Bush and 27% Otherwise... and 38% preferred Usama and 62% Otherwise... (makes 100% in either category?)
Looks like you watch too much CNN; NBC; CBS, etc. [Dou-g-h!!]
I think that the high level of disapproval of GWB here in Canada is probably due to the softwood, beef and other trade issues as well as the Iraq situation. I do not accept the figure concerning Osama Bin Laden, but, the brainwashing of people here by the wealthy and powerful is as advanced as it is in the U.S.A and so many discount the dangers of Islamist extremism, or Sikh fundamentalism or Aboriginal radicalism.

The fact is that Canada and the U.S.A. have grown apart and I expect this to continue and to increase. This is actually good for Canada in more ways than it is bad and I think it also beneficial for individual freedoms on both sides of the border(s).

I know that I have not visited the U.S.A. in nearly ten years and doubt that I ever will again. Canada's future lies in trade and cultural exchanges with many nations and our common bond of shared ethnicity, for example, with America is rapidly eroding due to immigration/demographic trends.

I expect to see a much more militarized and heavily guarded border and, again, this is a good thing, IMO, as it will perhaps eliminate drug, gun and people smuggling. Times change and our two nations are changing with them.
Next week they will probably show Syria's disapproval rating for Bush at 94%.

I don't think they will be happy until someone has a 100%.

WHO gives a hoot what Canada (no offence) or anyone else feels about our leadership. The more the others dislike it, the more I am certain we are RIGHT.
One of Canada's finest Prime Ministers, the Right Honourable John George Diefenbaker, once said, "polls are for dogs".....and I agree with Steelhead, it's not Canadian's affair who the Americans choose as President or dogcatcher. GWB may not be exactly another Jefferson, but, he is light years ahead of that pr**k, Klinton or that caricature, Kerry. (See me, gosh, don't I just look like JFK, duh!).
Ijaho, seeems to me that you are leaving out quite a lot in your statement or are mixing up two poles to come up with a single supporting statement. Does the CBC try to pass itself off as unbiased?

The Osama thing if goofy, but wouldn't that make Bush's dissapproval rating in Canada about the same as it is in the USA.
Fox News is the most reliable news outlet we have....but still a a media outlet that survives on having to have shocking headlines because most sheeple are to lazy to read anything that does not shock either polar extreme.

And I agree with Steelhead, since when do we really care what the rest of the world thinks about us? Good thing our founding fathers did not worry about being PC to the Brits!!! Good thing they did not concern themselves with what the latest BBC poll indicated about their political policies!!!
CBC unbiased? Not even remotely. Their 'science' program is Kyoto propaganda. Their 'news' programs spew Liberal propaganda. Their 'talk' programs are next to worthless. On one particular 'two-minute hate' i.e. news, they talked about how democrats were upset with the Roberts nomination to the SC. Then, to balance it, they described how Republicans were upset with the Roberts nomination.

My country's government makes me sick.

Lets calm down, and think of what those Canadians that were polled might have meant by that line of thought.

As everyone knows - the way the question is phrased or delivered has a huge effect on the answer you recieve.

If you look at it in the context, of which man, would be more likely - to provoke the next big conflict in the world - who would it be?

A radical Islamist trying to wage a war from some rat infested cave somewhere in the Tora Bora mountains - or the man who controls the largest military in the history of mankind - a man, who believes that starting "pre-emptive" strikes on countries he dislikes - can be a good thing?

Osama is a bit player. George Bush is not.

It's as simple as that.

(1) There is NO news media who reports just the (honest) facts anymore. ALL have some sort of warped 'here is what we think and so should you', behavior. FOX leaves more to the viewer to form an opinion that the rest of the LIBERAL garbage media sources. (I did not say FOX is perfect by any imagination) I received mail from a GI who was home on leave, who just re-upped for his second tour in the sand box and is anxious to return, who writes a story 180degrees out of phase with media BS. Something is wrong in the reporting we are spoon-fed, I'd say!!
(2) I only put up the stats as I recalled hearing them. Have no idea if poll was in Quebec, or whatever, just as food for thought. I can imagine that even IF the Usama-bit is in anyway reflective of current Canadian citizens, the generous policy of immigration there is a parallel of France, and something that is going to go to "roost" one of these days in the same manner in CANADA

I would hope that before Canada gives America 'the bird', they put a little money into their military so they do not have to ask the 'Ugly Americans to the South' to come protect them
Osama and his ilk are NOT ...bit players..., Brian, these people are every bit as dangerous as Hitler was and probably more so. They will never stop unless they are eliminated while Adolph was quite willing to stop just before "Barbarossa" because we of the British Commonwealth had bloodied his nose for him. There is nothing more immediately dangerous in the contemporary world than these monsters.

Bush, like "Raygun" before him is a neo-con meathead and a puppet for some very nasty damyankee imperialists, but, Osama is smarter, more dedicated and much more ruthless. I see the point you are making, but, even though I am coming to despise neo-cons even more since"Lyin' Brian" sold us out to the yankeetraders, I think that you underestimate Osama.

He is a cameljockey, raghead, wog azzhole, but, if his kind are not extirpated from this planet, we are doomed. Whether the invasion of Iraq was/is the best way to do this is not something I really can decide. But, even though the firebombing of Dresden was a mistake and a tragedy, can we say that bombing Kraut and Nip cities was entirely in error, I don't think so.

I will just edit this to say I agree totally with Idahjo, we Canucks NEED to re-build our military and station Polar 12 armed icebreakers in OUR Northwest Passage in order to keep various foreigners, including the Americans, out of OUR waters. We also need to forcibly repatriate the various vismins and tighten our immigration policies to reflect our true ethnic heritage...that means NO East Indians, etc.

Brian,
The USA does not have the largest military in the world. Never has. Perhaps the most capable. Absolutely the most well led. With the backing of its nuclear arsenal, arguably the most powerful, but not the largest.
"it's a choice brought about by peaceful means, something you wouldn't really understand"

What a joke.

Kute,
Radical Islam is the most dangerous threat to the existence of free people we've faced in our time. Regardless of whether you Canadian folks choose to acknowledge this or not is up to you. Our leaders have, at least in part, and have decided to fight. I'm sure it is tempting, too tempting, for the people of Canada to mistake the lack of direct action against their country as exemption. It is not. That calm is the sheltering wing of the USA provided by your geographic proximity.

OBTW, save tha arrogance. You have no reason for it and it's unbecoming.

Bush rocks! Fox rocks! You guys don't.

Canadians suffer from an inferiority complex.

And, the math of surveys seems to be too tough for some of you guys to figure out too. The math is more than 100% because it is the answers to more than one question.

FOX News is a source of a different point of view, and it is refreshing to see it available. It is proof that a free market works.

The freedom to navigate the Northwest Passage is embeded in International Laws that benefit Canada as much as any other nation.

It may surprise Canadians and Liberals that many of us don't care a rat's ass for your opinions either, but we are very aware of the danger for civilization if your rantings are not challenged vigourously.

I am proud to be a neo-con, if that is what Bush is. Of course I won't let that keep me away from the Stones tour. (Reference to the Stones anti-bush song.)
If, you had bothered to actually read my posts, you would have seen that my initial statement was precisely this, so, before you accuse me of arrogance, possibly you might examine your own obtuse behaviour? The proximity to the USA is actually NOT a benefit to Canada and never has been, since the last few times you invaded us and we kicked your asses in battle.

We are not in anywhere near the same condition of threat as you are from the Islamists as they regard you as "the Great Satan" and fully intend to wipe you out. But, we will ALL pull together on this issue as the scumbags deserve to die and the sooner the better. Personally, after the U.S.S. Cole and the Beirut U.S.M.C. bombings, I would have killed every mutherphukin cameljockey, ragtop on the planet without hesitation; I am not anti-American, I am pro-Canadian, capiche?

"Fettle" means, in this context, condition, shape and refers to a healthy, happy quality of mind....now, go write this on the board 500 times before you have your Friday night beer!

Actually, the U.S. government ASKS permission from the Canadian government before they send ships into OUR NorthWest Passage. Please quote the relevant laws that exist that deny Canadian ownership of the waters in question as WE navigated them first and they are surrounded by OUR sovereign territory.

kutenay,
What is the deal with you lately?
You seem very bitter about something...
Why attack someone that you disagree with?
Drop down a few notches, grab a Molson and chill out...EH!!!
These poison posts of yours are getting hard to read....

"The proximity to the USA is actually NOT a benefit to Canada and never has been, since the last few times you invaded us and we kicked your asses in battle."

You aren't straight. The Canadian economy would not be what it is if you maintained a military. It costs a lot of money. You do not consider that a benefit? As long as that paradigm exists, expect citizens of the US to not have a lot of patience for criticism from Canucks. As for the rest, don't let the past blind you. At the time of the conflicts you speak of, the population spread between the US and Canada wasn't nearly as wide as it is now and both conflicts were pretty isolated geographically.
As with so many Americans, with your insular, self-obsessed view of the world, you just don't get it. We don't need you, are rapidly moving away from you and really do not care what you think about anything. Your military record since WWII is a joke, your entire Eighth Army RAN in Korea, leaving their dead and even wounded buddies to the Chicoms; you were whipped in Vietnam and your country is the most loathed political entity on Earth. So, rock on, clean up your own mess, before you presume to criticise us.

Well actually, it is we that do not need you (and you know that) and even if you do have a comic book version of our post-WWII military history, at least we have one. If you don't think anything is worth fighting for, there is no reason to fight, eh? You do happen to be the location of choice for our deserters so you do have that going for you.
THAT is exactly my whole point, I feel very strongly that the greatest protection of individual freedoms in North America is to have the U.S. and Canadian governments and societies NOT very closely linked. A much tighter border would also be most beneficial here to eliminate drug and gun smuggling and the end to close ties between the US and Canada would tend to retard the growth of cross-border big government which currently impinges on my Canadian freedoms and your American ones.

As to your deserters, yeah, a lot of them came/come here, as you certainly seem to have a lot of them. I am not in favour of this, never have been and this would, again, be prevented by a larger political and social distance between Canada and the U.S.A. Also, you would not have to worry about paying for our defence, as you see it and we could bring our troops home from Afganistan and other places where they are fighting alongside Americans.....all kinds of benefits!!!! Have a nice weekend, got chores to do.

At first, I was going to, "Now play nice children." but your last statement pissed me off. You apparently don't know squat about the Korean war. You sir have not stood upon a hill called Task Force Smith where roughly 200 Americans fought off the invading hordes from North Korea. That sir is hallowed ground where I was priviliged to stand upon. The fiasco you speak of would most likely not have happened if Truman had not fired MacArther. A dumb President that thought he knew better than the generals fighting the war.
Viet nam. There was no way we could win that one because that idiot, Lame Brain Johnson would not let the military take out Haiphong Harbor, Hanoi or the bridges going into China where the NVA and VC were getting their supplies. Atfer all, we might get a few Russian and Chinese advisors killed. That would piss them off and they'd start World War Three. So let's let those sleeping dogs lie.

Iraq. If Bush went into Iraq on false information, assuming that this is the case, how can he be blamed. If I tell you that is has been confirmed that the moon really is made of green cheese, how can you doubt it? How could you prove otherwise? How could Bush know the intel was bad? Obviously, he couldn't.

The liberal media in the U.S., how to address them? That's a good question. Let's put it this way. I don't care what Mr. Bush does, regardless of how good or right it is, the media will find some way to villify him. Unfortunately, the Republican Party has shot itself in the foot. They have been so busy doing everything possible to make their rich buddies even richer that they have probably given the Democrats a shoo in to completely control not only the Congress but put Hillary in the White House. I doubt that it would change anything, because even those socialist (read communist in my book) are controlled by big money, so nothing much would change regarding them. They'd just raise the taxes on the middle class again, give the poor more dole to live on and the planet just keeps on circling the sun.

Al Queada. They're the real bad guys. They have been since the year 800 give or take. The Koran, their bible teaches that it is no sin to lie to an infidel. That's you and me guy. It also teaches that if you do not embrace Islam, you are to be killed. While sitting in a doctors office a couple of weeks ago, there was a national geographic Magazine with an article on Muslims. They had a map shoeing yellow dots where there was 10 or more Mosques located in the U.S. Along the Atlantic Seaboard, you could hardlt see anything but multiple yellow dots from Maine to Florida, then extending along the coastline through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and well into Southern California. Makes one wonder just how many radical fundamentalist Muslims are imbedded in all those groups?

During World War 2, there was a term, Fifth Columnists, meaning those who spread rumors or lies did nothing but aid the enemy. I consider out left wing news media to be fifth columnnists or worse. They're lucky that our Constitution allows them to get away with it. Hitler said it very well. "What good fortune for government that the people do not think." Seems ot me that they let the talking heads on the tube do their thinking for them. After all, If (anchorman of your choice) said it, it must be true. RIGHT?
I'll only add one comment of my own. here in the U.S., we have the best government big business can buy. It makes no difference which party is in control. They're bought and paid for.
I only ask one thing of you. Don't knock our military. They cannot do their job when the media does everything in it's power to denigrate what they are doing. They cannot do their job (Korea and Viet Nam) when their Commander in Chief stabs them in the back.

redmtn,
No Sir, I do not think all Canadians are the same, just as all Americans are not the same. I don't really hate anyone and since I married a wonderful lady who called Quesnel home for almost ten years I especially do not hate BC folks.

I do however react poorly to some peoples attitudes,
thanks Bart , i meet alot of Americans up here every year and the difference between Californians and Texans are quite amazing, you would think they were from different planets once they start talking politics.I tend to be more of a texan myself.
Weclome also. I love Prince George. Wish I could go through there again on my return to Alaska, but I don't want to drive that way in January.

I am sure I will be doing some steelhead fishing around Terrace next year. Would love to fish the Fraser sometime.

Remember folks, many comments from the 'O-zone' are made by people who were NEVER in the military or whom ever had to put their butt on the line for anyone but themselves

redmtn; Welcome. (Texans are good... you made a fine choice )
I have known some very fine Canadians and have always thought highly of them. I was surprised at the ignorant comments that a couple have made... Oh, well we all have our 'hidden family secrets', don't we

redmtn,
That was a fine first post sir.
Welcome to the Campfire.

I'll second that motion.

Pull up a log and set a spell.
"As to your deserters, yeah, a lot of them came/come here, as you certainly seem to have a lot of them."

Actually the percentage is miniscule per capita, but the total number that went probably equals the number of folks you have on active duty in all your armed forces. Again, not many.
I kinda like Canada, it blocks some of the cold wind from Siberia, not all, but some. As a windbreak, it's better than nuthin'. I won't scoff at the Canadian army, either, they did good work in "The Big One" but, unlike what a Canuck tried to tell me oncet, they didn't liberate Holland all by their lonesomes, I seem to recall the 82nd, 101, and 30 Corp had a hand in some of it, too (can't count the Red Devils as liberators, they had to give their part of Arnhem back).
Working class people will always be the heart and soul of a nation, and IMO are the best indicator of what the nation as a whole is like. That said, I have nothing against Americans or most races/countries. The key word being most......enough said.

The rich will always be the rich, and politicians will always be lying scum, no matter where they come from or reside. The media will always stir the pot and spread what sells, whether or not its true.

If you simply judge Canada or the US based on the UPPER CLASS, neither one of our countries has much to offer IMO. But if you base your opinion on to the AVERAGE man or woman who works for what they have, our two countries are not that much different. We are both proud nations who have a strong will to stand up for whats right and ours.

I don't agree with a lot of what GW does, but at least he has a back bone. I am truly embarrassed of what my country has for leadership(use that term loosely), and am even more discusted by the fact that our Vets fought and died for our freedom, only to have our govt. bend over and give it all away. With that as an example, its little wonder why the average Canadian doesn't want a substantial military; Whats the point of giving your life for something you believe in if some MoFo in Ottawa is going to turn around and give it right back to the people we just fought to regain it from.

RO,
The really big joke is the rather large payraise the NDP gave themselves after telling the teachers that they couldn't afford any more $$
Nurses just took a 15% pay cut as well, while the polliticians got a raise. Kind of like "Jenga", take a block from the bottom and put it on top. Wonder how much longer until it all crumbles.

Well, for me, I can only side with my" "brother" in Canada that has not visited the U.S. in 10 years and won't in the future".
I was most excited about a hunt in the BC, but, have decided to spend my money far more wisely, and, not have to register MY gun in that country.

VERY sad.

[Monday] CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington ... when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!

Uh, Brian, the original preemptive strike was made by Osama----it may have slipped your mind. It was four years, two months and eleven days ago, eh?

And of course, that's not counting World Trade Center Part I, Kobar Barracks in Saudi, the two African embassy bombings, the USS Cole attack, etc. etc.

Yeah, that damn Bush is a real menace, always out looking for trouble.
