I'm not usually impulsive. If I see something I like I do a ton of research on it and if it passes and I still want it after that time I'll go for it.

Not today...

Walked into a local pawnshop cruising for ammo or reloading supplies and saw this.

[Linked Image]

Now I just recently got an LCR .357 mag which I love, but something about a big bore snub-nose just got me all discombobulated...

I did a quick Google chck to make sure it wasn't from CA's crapola period and plunked down my moolah. Didn't help that I thought it was a really good deal. He had a box of 240 gr Lead he made me a deal on and when I went to SW after shooting they actually had 2 bags of Starline brass I snagged! Figure I'll load this with mild loads of 4227 behind a 200 gr cast or some such.

A S&W it ain't, but every report I saw said decent accuracy and very reliable. I cleand it up and smoothed the ejector and trigger/hammer and she's not too bad. I think this one is going to be a load of fun for what it is.

I just couldn't let it sit there.... blush
I got one just like it,...smoothed it over just a bit...

[Linked Image]

Bought one for my (now ex-) wife shortly after they first came out. She finally sold it to my oldest grandson last year. Had a bit of trouble with the ejector about ten years after we bought it, and I sent it back to Charter Arms. They fixed it up good as new and, without a request, even did a trigger job. It came back with one of the best double-action triggers I have tried.
Went to the local gun shop just to look. Spotted a highly customized Rem 700 308 Winchester with Leupold 2-7x for $800. Bought it on the spot.

DW,

I may have to Bob my hammer a bit, as well.

(Talking about the Bulldog, of course...) laugh
Yes, just one year ago! Walked into a local (150 miles from home)Wal-Mart, and found a Ruger American 30-06 left over from a Christmas sale for $250.00 out the door. So,my wife and I now own a "training" rifle for the grandkids. memtb

Many times I have been bitten by such a bug and gave in to the impulse. It has cost me a few $$$ over the years...

I have learned from experiencing the remorse of not getting a bucket list gun...

When I see one now, I usually try to make a deal on it, if the seller is somewhat sane. wink

Shrapnel,

Got my eye on a sweet 686, but it ain't an impulse...I'm selling a rifle to help fund it. Hopefully, the rifle sells! smile

I had a 4 inch Colt python for the carry gun I wanted. I didn't even know this gun existed until I saw it on a rabbit hunt a couple years ago. The Python was a nice gun, but when I saw this 686+, I bought the Smith and sold the Python...

Mojo I succumbed to one of these as well. They feel good in the hand. Mine could use a trigger job as it's a little stiff but I like big bullets. It's my truck gun.

nice work, doubt you feel unarmed toting it either smile
dang shrapnel, nice gun porn!
Thats the way I've bought most of my guns. I'll see something I like and I'll put it on layaway then $10 them to death. I have purchased a lot of great guns over the last 45 or so years, I almost never sell or trade a gun. Thats why I have 2 gun safes, a gun cabnet, and a built in gun cabnet. plus a few others here and there around the house. I just can't pass up a good gun at a great price. smile
I stopped by a local gun show a couple weeks ago, with no intention of buying a gun. Saw a Marlin Camp 45, in excellent shape with a sling and a cheap scope, priced at $495. Always thought they were sort of cool so I bought it on the spot.

I'm sorry.
I'm on my second Bulldog and don't plan on being without one. It is my warm weather, woods walking/fishing pistol. That thing throws a handful of #9 shot with snake shells and shoots great with the factory 240 gr lead bullets. I flatten the round nose a little so that it cuts a nice round hole in what ever I shoot with it.
A snake found in the wrong place never stands a chance.

I know they aren't the best made carbine ever, but I've shot them before and they are quite a bit of fun.

It's not as bad as it seems. Despite what you may think about them, they seem to bring surprisingly high prices. I turned down several offers to sell at a profit before I even left the show. I can play with this one for a while and I doubt that I'll lose any money if I sell later.

I never thought much of the Nambu, but when I saw this one, I bought it. The serial numbers match on the gun and magazine. I don't think it had ever been fired...

'Til you got your grimy mitts on it!

It is a tragedy, but better a gopher shot with it than an American serviceman...
First one that comes to mind is a rifle I happened across on Gunbroker.. Seller listed a NH Winch M70 Super Grade in 30-06 with a "buy now" price of $895...

One of the pics showed the S/N; a 'G' with only four digits after it.. Another pic showed the finely jeweled bolt AND follower.. That was a 'Custom Shop' rifle..

I quickly hit the "buy now" button before somebody else did..

Not a mark on it anywhere, no dirt, no fouling, nothin'...

Then there's this one, just by luck I happened to be in First Stop Gun in Rapid City when the owner showed me this beautiful rifle:

Well, Dan, I can tell you where this a 46 cal target underhammer that is gorgeous for 7 small, on Highway 29 south of Warrenton, Va.

probably weighs about 30 pounds.

It almost came home with me....

Wow! Neat thread, especially Shrapnel's gun porn!
Yup - a neat thread, to be sure.

It caused me to think about what I've purchased, and I now realize that I've been far more pleased with the spur-of-the-moment rifles I've bought, than with those I researched endlessly. Some that come to mind...

7x57 Mtn Rifle that I bought here from the late Bill Krenz (a/k/a, "Timberline"). Probably the best "For Sale Ad" ever placed in the classifieds:

[Linked Image]

Or this .300 Savage, that I picked-up here from 300jimmy. I know it's a simple rifle, but I just love the thing:

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

A 700 Cabela's Mtn Guide I saw on GunBroker. Nothin' fancy, but a joy to hold, and a great shooter:

[Linked Image]

And I was beguiled by the Classifieds once again when I saw a .30-06 Marlin X gun going too cheap, for too long. I didn't even bother taking a picture of the rifle, but the target kinda warranted one:

[Linked Image]

I suppose impulsiveness aint always a bad thing. wink

Nice revolver Mojo, I'm in the same boat, if I buy 700+ available 38 Super cases I'll have to go find and buy a damn pistol to shoot em in. cry shocked laugh

YOU SUCK...what a nice piece of fire wood you have there.

Seriously, that's a VERY nice hunk of wood.
My impulse buy, guilty pleasure gun is an Astra 3000

This isn't mine, but mine looks exactly the same

[Linked Image]

Such a funky, homely little pistol. It's like someone put an Astra 400 through a Xerox machine and made a 1/2 size copy.

When you get past how homely the little thing is, you find an exceptionally well made little pistol, accurate and relaible. And the whole thing came slow rust blued from the factory, very nice.

The bonus was how well it fit my kids and how much fun they had shooting it.

They other bonus is the fact that I got it for about 1/2 of what it was worth.
When I walk into the LGS and the proprietor reaches down behind the counter and says, "I just got something in you'd find interesting," I just reach for my checkbook. He knows me pretty well.

Looks like a 4" barrel, or maybe a 3 3/4" as well. Standard was 4 3/4"... Custom Colt for sure! smile

Colt would build you whatever you wanted. I wonder what the Colt letter says?

Ha ha ha ha.. where to start.

First, don't EVER get a C&R FFL. Makes impulse buys off the internet far too easy.

I forget how many years it's been now, but I was shocked when Mike sold off most of his collection to finance Class 3 WWII era toys.

Maybe knowing they went to a good home just down the road helped ease the pain. wink
Liquidation for him was painful, for me, expensive...

I would say there were a lot more whimsical purchases I did not make and regret than whimsical purchases I did make. Lot of cool things have escaped because I hesitated.

One example is a S&W 586 factory configured to take Millet rings on the rib. Another was a Ruger #1 A SS in .257 Roberts.

Of the whimsical purchases I did make, a good number of those involving used guns turned out badly. Often times it didn't take long to figure out why they were for sale used. frown I had better luck with new gun whims.

Tom

These pic's make me feel like I'm slummin' .....again.

Schrap, is the two-hundred-twenty-two enough for a quartering shot on a rabbit?

There is some seriously nice stuff on this thread but it's also interesting that a lot of 'low end' pieces have been scarfed up and enjoyed. To each his own, indeed... smile

That is a beauty. There is nothing I'd change on that rifle, very nice!
This one was an impulse buy also.

.35 Remington 141 pump, peerles grade.

[Linked Image]
Only thing I've ever done that was spur of the moment was a 50 bmg. Walked into competitors row at Camp Perry and saw it. Wife said why not? Just buy it.

But it took more than that... I didn't want to drop the change.... but a few years later as threats were around to ban we ordered one...

Other than that its been very little. Lately as I was talking with Kaywoodie about shotguns for a buddies wife he mentioned they had a used clean franchi at teh shop. Done deal. Took me 2 months to go get it though.

Actually as I age and have a bit more spending bucks, it might be dangerous to go to gun shops or shows.

But for whatever reason, probably because I worked in one for a number of years as a youth, I don't go to stores or shows unless I have something particular in mind.

Never before in my dismal life have I seen a Remington "grade" gun. That thing is...wild.
