I would say he was prominent tho no one I had heard of, but then I don't run in outlaw biker circles. As far as criminal gangs go, the Bandidos gotta be one of the oldest, and as far as I know have also diversified into legal endeavors like strip clubs etc. At the very least they probably are competent criminals.

Came as a surprise then when this guy, a convicted felon with warrants was found to be armed with a pistol and spare mags as well as in possession of controlled substances.

SAN ANTONIO - A former national sergeant at arms with the notorious motorcycle gang Bandidos was arrested Friday morning.

Michael Mensen, a convicted felon, was arrested by Bexar County Sheriffs deputies during a traffic stop.

Mensen was wanted on a felony warrant for public order crimes out of Colorado, Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman James Keith said.

Deputies found a loaded 9 MM handgun in a holster on Mensens waist and two fully loaded magazines in a pouch on the other side of his hip, Keith said.

Mensen also had two knives in his waist area and was in possession of methamphetamines and several vials of steroids, Keith said.

In addition to the felony warrant, Mensen also faces felony charges for possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of a weapon, Keith said.

Menson is awaiting magistration to Colorado.

I'm glad nobody got shot.

Back in the 70's we had some Bandidos running around up here.

I guess they made a few enemies as one night there were 2 or 3 of them sitting at a stop light when a lifted K5 Blazer ran them over. Made quite a mess.

After a couple more incidents they disappeared and if they are around here anymore they don't wear their colors in public.

Had the president of the South Texas Chapter give me his card and tell me to let him know if I ever needed anything after I stopped to help him and his compadre out on the side of I35 south of San Marcos in the mid 1980's.

Seemed a decent enough fellow. Interesting conversation that lead to the card.

bub dumas or benny brulloth ?
I know a few, tho not Bandito's. Mostly, they just want to be left alone...like most of us. Their choice of employment is quite different than mine though. smile

A Bandit with crank and a gun? It came as a surprise to who?
It's always shocking when low life sacks of schit turn out to be armed and carrying narcotics and have outstanding warrants.

Crazy.

I guess his point was that one would expect these guys to have a little more savvy then to be running around with weapons and drugs when they have an existing warrant, alluding that they have some sort of savant status for crime based on their longevity.

Why I don't know.

If they were savvy at all, they wouldn't have warrants.
When I was a Ladd growing up in Chicago I knew quite a few charaters I still know a few and interact at times
But at 50 I know to just keep my distance and I am just good with that

Especially the youngsters

They're Caucasian hood-rats. Not sure why anybody would expect them to be smart.

Travis
Me neither.

I like the guys with murder warrants that we'd end up getting PC for equipment violations on cars.

Or the ones that chunk a food wrapper out the window and they have 3 states looking for them, as well as drugs, guns, and money in possession.

Mensa candidates for sure.

Hard to argue against that, especially with the frequency by which it occurs.

Never said "savant".

Got no illusions about outlaw bikers one way or another. They were heroes when we were teenagers in the "Easy Riders" era crazy and my cousin who is more like my brother was a patch-wearing biker years ago.

Then there was that whole decade all I did was motorcycles, no car, no furniture in my apts etc... rubbed shouilders with a few here and there.

The Bandidos are pretty much a part of the scene here in the West Side of San Antonio and I have had several students either kids of or nephews of etc etc...

Like folks said, mostly you don't screw with them, they don't screw with you. Some of them were even good parents who I saw at school quite a lot. But overall, yer prob'ly better off if they don't know you exist at all...

...unless maybe you taught their kid and did them right grin...

...but overall, on balance, having encountered as many as I have I'd still pass on the acquaintance thing.

So ya, it surprises me a little that a "senior" outlaw biker would be caught so obviously in violation, but then I ain't a Cop.

So I posted it here just fer conversation, folks are free to do the now-usual Campfire thing I guess crazy

I got a super idea guys!

Let's wear jackets that exclaim we are a criminal organization and tell everybody we meet that 99% of the decisions made by our organization are done for nefarious purposes!

UBER thought process!

Travis
We got 150 kilos out from under a guys back seat one day after he was speeding, didn't have a license and told us he was from Havana, Puerto Rico.

The only brains it takes to be a crook is to be smarter than their victims.

Schit like this cracks me up.

OMG's enslave young women and force them into prostitution.

OMG's sell meth. Yeah, meth. That awesome schit everybody wants in their community.

They beat and rape women.

They beat and rape men.

They promote the assault and killing of law enforcement personnel.

They seek to intimidate and silence law abiding citizens.

They are no different than the sack of schit hood-rats on the east side of San Antonio, or the west side of Chicago.

They're unemployed, scum bag, sacks of fugging schit and I'll never understand why gullible white people try and view them through the same romanticized glass that they view the Italian mafia.

Travis
Jax is cool.
Ya alla that....

...and you see 'em all the time around here..

..and some of them raise decent kids.

Just the way it is.
We used to have 2 biker gangs in Casper Wy in the 70's. They had a shoot out in North Casper. That was the end of tolerance for city officials. They had lots of drug arrests and were always fighting each other and anyone else they could beat up. Being a small town I knew several of them. Some were tough and most just wanted to be. The state got in on it and kicked them out of Wyoming. Escorted them to the State line and sent them on their way. A few of them were shot, out in the big gang world and it pretty much disbanded the groups. We have a few who wear colors around now but not a big group. Now all the drug dealers are very low key. Same here ,as most of them get caught with traffic violations, with drugs.

The episode I watched involved a young biker reading his dad's diary. Like his dad was the leader of an OMG and maintained some sort of diary to pass on to his son or something?

Holy fugg. It was so fugging stupid I could hardly breathe.

...and yet they persist.

About like if the Mafia (are they even still around?) wore signs on their backs.

Puzzling ennit?

But then maybe not, the gangs all have tattoos that say as much.

It's not puzzling at all. All "gangs" evolve from individuals that don't have the fortitude to accomplish anything on their own. They have to display evidence of their affiliation to boost their confidence.

Wait until they run the VIN on the bike..........
The local bar and grill is a biker hang out

I bet not a single biker that shows up makes less than $80K a year in his white collar job.

They wear the leather, drink beer and if they are lucky, get the soccer mom wife out of the mini-van and onto the back of his weekend toy to ride along. The local Wal-Mart does a brisk business selling bandanas.

They show up, do a lot of motor revving at idle, wave at each other without making eye contact when they pass on the road and then ride their 7 miles back to their house and park it until next weekend.

I think the reason I don't see gang bikers anymore is Gentrification.

Not that I miss them.

Not in that sense, I interact with 'em in juvenile form every day and am fairly well acquainted with all the psycho/socioeconomic factors.

What I meant was its a puzzle they can label themselves so plainly while doing so much that has to be hidden.

Still, I suppose a patch wearer can just remove the vest as needed. From the photo I dunno if that guy was wearing his.

Makes me even happier the Deputy didn't get shot.

I'm recalling decades ago hearing that they were already running VN's routinely at Sturgis and other big rallies.

Don't recall and lost the card, although they both sound familiar, Benny more so. That was about 1984.

Did you copy that from a TRH post about cops?

Quite true, and that covers a broad spectrum of affiliations.

As far as patched OMG's go, I personally don't want to find myself in alliance with or owing a favor to them anymore than I would the blood brothers mc. (refer back to your quote)
would of been Benny, i've done work for them over the yrs. putting flooring in a couple clubs and Benny's home.

You gotta give the guy credit. He was prepared for most anything...except being arrested. smile
I was sitting in a bar in Dubois Wy a couple years ago and up in front pulled about 10 or so Harley's. A guy a couple of stools down looked out the window at the new looking,
bikes and the leather coated, bandanna wearing guys and said Man look at those bada$$ Sons Of Arthritis. Was a good laugh.
Anyone that thinks any member of the Bandidos, or another gang like them that has a sole purpose of organized crime, doesn't know much about them, or the track record that precedes them.

They are not "bad boys on Harley's"... They are murderers and every other felon on record.

I wish you could all read the TX DPS Intelligence Report on them. Ain't nothing "romantic" about then. At all.
They'd get a big kick out of the patches.

I have always been impressed by these ones.

..especially the ones sported by former outlaws.

Spent a lot of time in my day around motorcycles, prob'ly met two or three that fit that description.

Mensa candidates for sure.

We had one here yesterday.

Mexican dude

Routine traffic stop, but the cop had a dog

8 Kilos of Cocaine hidden under the dash and on top of the gas tank
One of my best friends is member of the Pagans M/C and holds office in their "mother club".

Inherited millions of $$$$$$ from his dad's estate and never had to work again ever.

Decided to go into the cocaine business to get even more $$$$

Bad idea as he cleaning up his 23rd year with the feds on a 30 year bit.

Dumazzz.

Ya, evil, but not all stupid. Hence my OP.

Last time I spoke with one other than a parent was at Hills and Dales here in SA maybe 20 years back, hardly a biker bar and still a good place to drink a beer. Bandidos would often roll up with a hot young woman on the back, prob'ly strippers I imagine.

This guy rolls up on one of them custom bike styles now popular; huge round back tire, simple lines, way tall frame with small gas tank perched on top. Heck even Honda makes 'em now. Never liked 'em much as you cant live on them very well when on the road for extended periods. Guy was wearing slacks and business attire, but with the "Property of..." club sticker on the bike, stripper-looking woman on the back.

Parks it next to my BMW R100 G/S P/D, me standing there holding a beer. Looks at me and says "You can only WISH you were me." Actually I didn't, not at all.

They don't care what you think, and wear colors to make that point

They really are no different than some here
pagans, hells angels, outlaws, banditos, whatever are all a bunch of friggen criminals. that mentality belongs in prison.
