Took this big boar using the .357 Benjamin Bulldog yesterday morning before daylight. I shoot 145gr Nosler Ballistic Tips on the big stuff. Hit him behind the ear... He fell right there.

85 yard shot. As he was tearing up one of the supplemental feeding areas here at the ranch.

This one won't be tearing anything else up. smile

View from where I shot him.

Nasty old boar.

Pretty good sized boar. Less than 300 pounds though, but he was all there, for sure.

$1000 plus a $170 tire pump May have to think about that one a little bit, unless the lottery comes my way.

You don't want to try keeping a big bore air rifle filled with a hand pump. I use a scuba tank and it's cheap, quick and easy.

This rifle has very similar ballistics to a 300 Blackout. It also has an incorporated silencer in the barrel shroud already, straight from Benjamin.

What would be the cost of a .300 Blackout, and then the suppressor and tax stamp? Probably a minimum of a couple grand?

Not to mention the waiting because of the "firearm & suppressor" factor.

Not for everyone, but it does offer some very nice alternatives. wink

What kind of table fare is an old boar like that?

I'm thinking hard about one of them BB guns. What scope are you using?
Posted By: stxhunter Re: Big Boar~Airgun - 12/17/15
that thing is super accurate when i shot it , it literately shot the pellets into one hole.
Posted By: 700LH Re: Big Boar~Airgun - 12/17/15
I like that one, didn't know that made it.
Whole lot more air gun than my 50 plus year old Sheridan Blue Streak.

Do they require special optics? Is a good air gun scope $$? I know they're crazy accurate and quiet and they ain't lacking in knockdown power.

The gentleman up at Kesselrings is pretty knowledgeable. I may go take a look come January.

not sure on the scope, barry let me shoot both of his when we were fishing at eyeballs this past spring at lake Buchanan

Negative. Springers need stout optics, but pre-charged pneumatics can use any old scope.

They ran afoul of the law back around 2013, so did they get things sorted out to be able to sell firearms again?
Posted By: AcesNeights Re: Big Boar~Airgun - 12/17/15
No firearms. Reloading, optics ammo and high end air guns

That particular scope is a CenterPoint 4-16x56 side focus.

Probably a bit of overkill on the scope, but I think the side focus works out better if you shoot closer ranges on day, and longer the next. It helps eliminate parallax issues.

Recoil is very light. Not like a springer gun.

Where can one find 145gr .357" Ballistic Tips? Thinking they might work out of a 357 Mag rifle.

Airguns have shallower rifling cuts in the barrel to seal off blow-by. The lead projectiles are generally made of softer lead than hardcast bullets used in firearms.

Maybe with a gas check?

Nosler or Crosman has them.
