A surprising name has been thrown out as a potential Republican contender for Michigan Democrat Debbie Stabenow’s Senate seat next year: Kid Rock.

The rocker’s name came up as a possible candidate at a Michigan Republican Party convention last weekend. There have been no official decisions announced as of yet.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, once said he tended to vote Republican but qualified himself as “more libertarian” to Rolling Stone in 2013. But he has supported several major Republican candidates.

The Michigan native threw his support behind Mitt Romney in 2012 and supported Ben Carson in the 2016 presidential election. He later switched to Donald Trump as he became the party’s nominee.

Rock — or Ritchie — even started to sell pro-Trump merchandise in his official online store including t-shirts with the phrase “God, Guns & Trump” in red, white and blue-colored text.

Stabenow has been in office since 2000 and Inside Elections With Nathan L. Gonzales rates the race Solid Democrat, but Republicans feel more confident after Trump’s win there in 2016 — the first GOP presidential candidate to win there since 1988.
Stabenow, iirc, was Guvner there in the great lake state too.

She's a fhookin' DEM, LIB tard from the get-go.

Not sure 'Ol Kid Rock would have enough brain cells to do a good job, but if it helped MI stay in the Red corner more power to him.

My state is blue (well, almost Red and i hope becoming more so) so like Michigan we've got our get our schidt together as well.

ETA: fact check..... D Stabenow was not a MI Guvner.... that was J. Granholm.
were I a Michiganer i'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
Great spoiler candidate to grab some youth vote.
I never much cared for him, especially after he played such a dousche in Joe Dirt, but he's really changed my mind the last few years.
Jesse Ventura got a governorship, Al Franken, Senator. That was Minnesota, but still, Kid should be a slam dunk.

I am, and I would.
He recorded a song about abortion that never saw any airplay. That and him being a gun guy about sums it up for me.
If Al Franken can do it then why not?

Schwarzenegger...
I'd vote for just a plain old rock over Stab-you-now . . .
So, the Rs are likely to run Kid Rock in MI; Carl Edwards in MO; and, Curt Schilling in Massoftwochits?

Wow.

But they have no political experience...

And haven't organized a community either.
It seems like virtually every state is saddled with useless POS Senators.
Florida has been double cursed, having both Bill Nelson (D-C) {The "C" of course is for Communist}, and little Marco.

Your birth state ain't doing too hot either. frown

I say go for it Ritchie. Hell if anyone with two+ live brain cells can consciously pull a lever for Fricken-Franken, Ritchie should walk in.

You bet, not only is Ritchie a great talent he is also a very smart individual and he has never forgotten where he came from.

I think he'd do a good job.

Stabenow was never the governor.
He's not afraid of controversy and tends not to be PC. He was taking heat for his support of the confederate flag and told the protesters to kiss his ass:

Controversy surrounding the flag reached a boiling point after the symbol of the Confederacy incited protests following a mass shooting at a historic black church in Charleston, S.C., last month.

Since then, Kid Rock has shown ardent support of the Confederate flag, saying during a Fox News interview last week, “Please tell the people who are protesting to kiss my [expletive] … ask me some questions.”
I'd vote for him but I think a lot of people would have a hard time.
Have any of you listened to his early work?
Check out Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast or The Polyfuze Method sometime. Any bible thumper's head will explode.
Yo-Da-Lin in the Valley!

Well, he has a big ego, a big mouth and lots of name recognition so he has the prerequisites for being elected.

But once in office, exactly what would he bring to the table in the furtherance of good government and a serious consideration of issues? What managerial skills does he have, what in depth grasp of any issues has he shown, what would he do to further the dignity of a national office which admittedly is already at rock bottom? What qualifications has he shown for legislative office other than a flair for grandstanding in front of his supposed redneck audience?

We really don't need a white version of reconstruction Negro legislators wiff dey feets up on da desk smokin' big seegars.

Well, I bet Kid Rock wouldn't go Trolling for Gay sex in airport bathrooms, so that's a plus.!
Yeah, I'll give you that. wink
I'd vote for him. He couldn't be any worse than the trash that's in there now.

Whatever he may or may not bring to the table would still be a better bet than Stabenow.
What ever he brings it will be head an shoulders better than the chit already there. And what I guarantee he will do upon arriving, is RIDE FOR THE FUGGEN BRAND.

Take care, Willie

So if he did run would he be Senator Kid or Senator Robert Ritchie?

I personally favor Kid!! Seems appropriate for the environment!! wink
Sadly it will never happen.

First, Kid wouldn't waste his time sitting in with that bunch. He'll fight the god fight for us, and while flattered, he's got it pretty good now.

Second, the Old Guard conservatives here would never allow it. He's too "rock-n-roll" for their tastes and not enough bible. The districts here went for Cruz in the primaries.

And please don't put him in that bunch with Franken and Ventura. Kid actually has a brain and uses it. He's not afraid to stand up for what is right. His work with the Troops says it all.

There's quite a bit more to him than you give him credit for in your post.
I'm always open to new information and willing to learn, it's not "I'm right and everybody else is wrong" so please, be very specific about what would qualify him to craft effective legislation at the national level. He may be a smart guy and may be a nice guy in person, I'm pretty smart, too, and a lot of folks here at the fire are a lot smarter than I but in no way would I consider myself a good candidate for public office.

I'm not against him personally. I don't care for his music but that doesn't enter into it at all. I just don't think a person's celebrity status automatically qualifies them for office unless they have a proven track record of running a large business and delegating responsibility - military command at a battalion or higher level would also qualify; experience in local government; even a good academic background at the masters level in something like history, economics or even political science would be a good start. Those aren't the only possible qualifications by far, but the ability to yell "Murica! F*ck yeah!", while I support the sentiment 100%, is not quite what I look for in a national legislator. If it's Mayor Kid Rock, MS in Economics, Col. (Ret.), then I will stand corrected.

Btw, I did google him to read up on his early career, selling drugs, assault charges, brawling, appearance in a porn video and such. Okay, never mind, he's a perfect match for Congress... wink

Understood. I'm not a Michigander, so I'll not vote for or against him regardless. But if I were, I would. I don't know all his bona fides. But from what I have seen and read (and I could certainly be proven wrong) I think he'd be great.

Most of them that meet the litmus test of being "fit to draft legislation" etc are also prone to not following through on the promises made during the campaigns. I'm not dumb either, nor would I ever seek a nationally elected office. There's more to it than mere intellect. I in no way think someone is qualified based on celebrity status. I say let him run and we'll all find out.

A fancy degree or distinguished military career are certainly not valid prerequisites. Congress is full of them now.
Never could figure Stabenaw out.she came from the north woods country and should not be a libtard. Bought I guess. Pres. Trump is first I ever donated money to,hope the Kid will be the second.
Kid Rock is from Michigan, huh?

Teeth are.......
The pride of Detroit

Every one here has a story (some may even be true) about meeting him somewhere
usually a small bar etc

He and Hank Williams and Uncle Cracker have a bar up north they own and when they want to hang out they put up the closed sign and hang out

I would vote for him
Hank
Ahhh...

A Brave New World of Idiocracy...
I guess he would be as good as any top liberal college yuppie looking for a life in politics . Kid rock would be less likely to sell us out than Biff the yuppie country club up and coming POS . .
The 2018 Republican primary for Stabenow's seat might be interesting, with Ted Nugent thinking of running:

It is indeed just a song, this is true but for years a lot of people listed to that song and by his lyrics thought he was poor before music....not even close.

Just when your eyes came back to a normal position after hearing that Kid Rock's name is floating around to run against current Michigan senator Debbie Stabenow, it seems that another Michigander wants a shot for a Senate seat, too.

That's right, folks. The Motor City Madman Ted Nugent himself is thinking about a possible run in 2018, according to Fox News.

In an interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation, Nugent said there is "nothing I wouldn't do to help [Michigan] in any way I can," and would not rule out a bid.

Just to give you a taste of Ted Nugent's political discourse, he once said this during a concert in 2007:
"Obama, he's a piece of [bleep]. I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey Hillary [Clinton], you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch."

Oh, and then back in 2012 at a NRA convention in St. Louis he said "if Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year."

Last time we checked, conservatives wanted celebrities to stay out of politics, but since our President's last job was deciding whether to fire Gilbert Gottfried or Vivica A. Fox from a reality TV program, Kid Rock and Ted Nugent on a GOP ticket sounds about right.
After years of Stabenow and Levin, I'm voting for about anyone.
