Do you think that by now, Sam is scrambling about for more dogs to fill orders?
Seriously, I hope he found a home for the cute pup!
Richard, when are you driving over to pick him up?
No takers yet!
Made a promo vid this morning that I need to download...
I sure like the look of that pup, and the way that Sam is taking care of him. Would love to help on this - am trying.
He's a good dog, no signs of being abused.
Honestly all we've been doing is dropping off food every morning and that's it. Play with him maybe for a minute or two and then back down the road.
He can make a coffee can full of Blue Wilderness disappear in less than a minute....
The silly pup I just got will only chase cows when I am not there.
Didn't know you were trying to find a home for a dog.
And I'd have him my backyard right now if it weren't for two reasons.
1. He'd be hard on my little old, blind lapdog. Rough housing puppy and all.
2. I do not want to get attached to him.

Jim, I put up a post yesterday. Rez pup that needs a better home.
Come on - someone step up and adopt Sam's, I mean Sam's neighbor's dog.
Nice looking dog.
My hired man's folks live in Poplar, I guess they are coming over for a visit. They might could give him a ride.
I will ask around and see if anyone needs a dog.
I could ask the wife, but I have an idea......
Great looking pooch that seems eager to please.
Hope one of y'all adopt him.
Sam, too late! You are attached now, methinks.
I'm about 100 miles from Lake Tahoe,CA and if the logistics of getting him here could be worked out I would take him in a heartbeat. He sure can't continue to live where he is.
i don't really have the room but if worst comes to worst, i'll come get him, or help with re-homing him however i can.
I'm too far away, but I'd be tempted.
Make a good ranch dog!
If anyone has sheep there, they may be interested.
Picture and phone number at the feed store would probably find him a home.
Too many dogs around here...
People will advertise dogs with a dollar amount attached. And then if they see you are decent will sometimes just give you the dog(stray dogs now, not talking fancy dogs).
If you say 'free dog to a good home', all the idiots that shouldn't have dogs in the first place will show up wanting it.
There is a local 'shelter' and they send A LOT of dogs to better homes. Out of the area homes....
My mom knows the lady and if need be the white pup can go there.
Just thought the 'Fire would be a good place to vet a potential owner.
And we all love dogs.
Was hooking up the post hole digger today, and my pup decided he wanted to jump up when I wasn't looking.
I suspect he'll be driving that tractor before too long.
Wish I could be of some help Sam but I'm drawing a blank.
Cool pup though...good luck.
Charlie, no prob, thanks.

stepdaughter has a very sweet rott cross that came from Wolf Point via the local shelter.
Cool looking dog
Good luck
okay Sammo, I'll take him, but you have to deliver him and stay for a week or so.
Toad, there are some really good looking dogs running around town.
Ben, you're close, come get him.....
Randy, I would love to make that trip!
I'll sponsor the first bag of dog food if you keep him. *grins*
I'd come and get him if I didn't already have two too many JRTs...great little dogs, but they even wanna fight the dogs on TV...
Nice looking dog.I wish I could make it happen.
always heard the dog chooses you is the best, sounds like you a screwed
Good luck finding him a home.
okay Sammo, I'll take him, but you have to deliver him and stay for a week or so.
What you looking for Randy... I'll see if I can find a stray around here. LOL.
Uh, never mind.. week really isn't long enough.
okay Sammo, I'll take him, but you have to deliver him and stay for a week or so.
How about I just ship you a cat and call it even?
Got four dogs in the house now. Ant take another but I'm wishing I could.

If you promise to do that I'll send Randy's addy.
Darn good looking dog. Smart, eager to please, and knows how to show restraint. A fella could work with a dog like that, Sammo.
Good luck finding him a home.

Looks like he's plotting to take your job Barry!
Sam, I'd sure take that white Rez pup if you were close. Looks to have a lot of Lab genetics and smart too! Hope you can find him a good home!
Well there is a video of 17 seconds of extreme viciousness!
Scary.
John
Spot on John, Sam is lucky to have lived to tell the tale.
Sam is that you talking in the video?
Why aren't you doing voice overs for gun ads, and living the life of riley having your toes licked by supermodels and being fed bacon wrapped dove nuggets on a bed cedar branches?

My thoughts when I watched it. "Beef. It's what's for dinner"
For some reason I don't think Sam Elliot is very nervous....grin
Lots of PM's about the hound.
Location is northeast MT.
Somebody take this dog! Don't make me come up there!!
Somebody take this dog! Don't make me come up there!!
How about you start a fund for this dog Sam? Get Rick to make it a sticky till the enough funds are raised....shouldn't take but about a week at most. Then we could air freight him to one of the guys here that can't afford the time and money to come get him? Anything extra could be used for vaccinations and a checkup at the vet...
If it was a female, I would give her a home. Have two females now, can't have a male.
I was hoping you would've been in sw Montana. I don't have enough time to make the drive all the way to ne Montana. If you know anyone heading towards Salt Lake City and could give the boy a ride, I can make it to there within 5 1/2 hours and would take him.y
Sixxcat1,welcome to the "fire", what a way to start here, falling in love with a dog.
Thank you. I lost my Golden Retriever of 14 years back in August, and my brother who gets on Campfire pretty often sent me a link to this pup.
Thanks again.
Good on you. Hopefully you can make this work!
I talked to the wife, and predictably she said no.
She did however suggest the Eastern Montana Farm and Ranch classifieds on the Face book. She is on there frequently and says that lots of dogs get adopted on there.
Might be worth a shot.

I may be able to help out here. seems that I'm about halfway between you and the dog.
I'm just coming off of a week of the crud and the roads may not be the best right now, but this seems like his ticket.
One thing about this pup, it has quite a legacy already.
Whoever winds up with it should keep us all posted on it.
I talked to the wife, and predictably she said no.
So,...what have we learned from this, for next time?

It would be a good thing.

We learned that lesson long ago.
It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
Let me know what you have in mind? I'm in Las Vegas & my brother is in SLC. Thanks.
I could get the dog to the Bozeman MT area.
It aint that much to ship a dog through the airlines
Need a crate should be roughly $300
I'm sure we could raise the funds to get this dog to Vegas
I'll kick in $100
if that is our best option, i'll match that.
but the dog may need shots, ect for the flight.
I'm sure we can raise what ever amount is needed without a problem
too find a lost dog a new and caring home. I'm in as well.
Who's the lucky guy!? Richard!!?? You can call him Ciro!
I'm sure we can raise what ever amount is needed without a problem
yea, but i don't know how much time Sam can devote to this, and I'm six hours from there.
That short clip shows some promise. Good looking dog.
Thanks guys. That was one of my thoughts as well, maybe getting a crate and flying him down?
I will chip in also. Let me know the details.
Depends on what you call an airport.
Thank you to everybody willing to help out. Whoever can orchestrate it on their end, let me know costs, & I can PayPal some funds up.
Thanks again guys I'm going to be away from the fire for a couple hours, but will check back later.
Is it just me, in the hunter's campfire list, the title of this thread is, SamOlson's Dog?
When I click to here, the comments page, it says, Wabigoon's Dog!?
Too much like Kevin Costner, and James Earl Jones at the ball park scoreboard in Field of Dreams!!
Vegas is a lot closer by air. LOL
I think he should be named Sam's Hi-Line Whitey. Or something else.
Depends on what you call an airport.
Biplanes don't count!
Just got in and will be replying to all PM's.
Just got in and will be replying to all PM's.
Pretty sure if you put up a PO box # you'll get more than enough to get the pup a ticket down to Vegas along with enough for a vet check...
we could start a gofundme page.
Might even raise enough for ALL of us to go see Sam!!! and the dog!
However, no Bud light! Must have real beer.
I bet we could raise enough to buy the dog it's own car
There were some previous PM's from other members and I am going by who responded first.
Thanks for the offers but for the time being no financial help is needed.
And to be totally clear this is a little bit of a sketchy deal and I do not want to get anyone's hopes up. It's not like I'm giving away my dog.
This dog was either dropped off at the house or 'belongs' to someone who is never at the house.
I have no idea if it would be starving to death or not but I think it would be so that's why we took it under our wing.
I've been hoping we would run into the 'owners' because I would like to nicely ask them what's up and maybe get the dog free and clear without resorting to what could be considered theft.
It's just a bad situation.
And here I am talking about it on the internet which is probably not very smart but whatever, something has to be done.
We were up feeding cows this morning and were about a mile away from the house and I could hear a pack of coyotes howling and yipping away. Sure enough we drive back out to the gate and 3 of them were looking over towards the house and road. Get closer and no dog. My heart starts sinking but luckily we find him down the running down the gravel road. He might be dead right now if we didn't stop and scoop him up....
And if the 'owners' read this and get pissed whatever. They probably wouldn't have a dog now even if I didn't take him.
Guess I don't consider it stealing but nonetheless it's one of those deals where you just wish everything was out in the open.
I don't want to create any problems for a potential owner.
Just wanted to get that out there to everyone.
so we're not all coming to your ranch? Well Dang!
No big fancy ranch, just a muddy little cow farm on the side of the road!
good for you, Sam. that is saving a dog. there is NO way that's theft. I'm still very much behind doing what's best for the dog.
If the dog needs a plane ticket to get a good loving home I'm in for cash as well. Leaving a dog at an abandoned house with no attempts to care for it is bullchit and they don't deserve to have a dog IMHO.
I may or may not have left more then 1 duck hunting spot during -10 + temps with ice having a 8-12 week old puppy more then we came with. Amazing how puppies just wander off in state land parking lots, also amazing how my buddies female yellow thinks every puppy is hers and loves em up in a kennel so they stay silent for the get away.
Yeah, I wouldn't be sleeping very well tonight if we hadn't grabbed him.
Been worried about coyotes moving in but hadn't seen any until today. And you know they'd kill that big pup in a second.
Thanks again guys for all the generous offers.
Thanks for the heads up Sam. If anything changes, please let me know as I'm really interested in him. Right now I could only do about a 12 to 14 Hour drive round-trip if something were to work out.
Thanks also to Toad and everyone else willing to help out to get him here.
For what it's worth, I live on the very far west side of Las Vegas and we have a bad coyote problem, killing small to medium size dogs, cats, whatever they can get a hold of. I know it's going on over on the south side of town also, hopefully he'll be ok.
Good for you Sam.
Hoping it works out.
Thanks again guys for all the generous offers.
Yup….pretty danged terrific the way this place can rally to support just about any need or cause.
And while we all insert a fair amount of humor the intent is always positive and good. Although, in this case I believe Richard was freaking a little about the possibilities.
Let us know pard!
the only issue I can see with his past is if he is chipped, the vet may call the previous owners. vets have the latitude to just change the owner in the pet chip data base if they want, so the history of feeding and saving this dog from being killed by coyotes may have value.
another way to play this is to take the dog in for a check-up and shots. then if the previous owner is called they'll be on the hook for the vet bill and would probably give the dog to ya rather than pay the bill.
ME! FREAK??!!
I may be coolest man in North America.
We are three deep in dogs the way it is.
"Our", latest is a walk on, dumped dog, we call Lucky.
I don't want to talk about cats, the wife feeds many cats, and the word must be out to get rid of cats here.
You want some Japanese KOI!!??
Sounds like I've lost my 1/2 gal maple syrup jug.
Sam, I'm thinking the "owners" don't give a damn.
If they did, the dog wouldn't be in that position.
Usually, I warn the dogs with a good scare when I find them here. The second encounter isn't quite as healthy for them.
Damn someone that doesn't take care of their own animals anyway!
ME! FREAK??!!
I may be coolest man in North America.
And it's not even open for debate.
Sixxcat1,welcome to the "fire", what a way to start here, falling in love with a dog.
Bustard HAS to be a good guy!
"Ownership", Sam ? Only if applicable. If it ain't deserved...
My Nevada brother was going to work one day when he noticed this dog all wound up against a tree. He stopped to untangle her, noticed the water dish and food dishes were empty and she was looking peaked...
Investigated the shed, found food, filled her water (thrice) and food dishes.
Repeat for several days.
Finally said "Fug it- if I'm gong to care for her, I'll do it at home" He took the dog, the chain, the food, the dishes.
The totally stupidist dog ever born.... but she didn't deserve the neglect.
There is a local 'shelter' and they send A LOT of dogs to better homes. Out of the area homes....
My mom knows the lady and if need be the white pup can go there.
Just thought the 'Fire would be a good place to vet a potential owner.

is this shelter set up to accept donations? I find myself in possession of a sizable gift card that can only be used for a non-profit or charitable purpose.
I am waiting for an update?
Sam?
Toad, I was thinking that if the plane ticket isn't needed, anyone that still wanted to help the Rez dogs could donate to the shelter.
I will check into it.
Thanks for all the replies!
wait I thougt this was wabi's dog!??
wait I thougt this was wabi's dog!??
Kind of funny....a "Rez" dog being given away by an indian giver...just kidding Sam...you're doing the best you can...my hat's off to ya.
Been worried about coyotes moving in but hadn't seen any until today. And you know they'd kill that big pup in a second.
My worries as well from the first time you showed him.
Coyote went after one of my neighbors calves while she was giving birth. Good luck establishing ownership of him or finding him a great home.
I'm still willing and able to help. Just say the word!!
WHY ARENT you keeping him Sam?
FIXT
No luck on finding him a home yet?
I'll bet Sam's wishing he hadn't posted...
I can't keep another dog but if it would help him find a home I'll drive to Montana, pick him up an bring him home, if somebody will commit to pick him up here.
"Here" is35 miles south of Cheyenne.
