A guided hunt perhaps? I won't be too hard on him; he's down there looking over the border.

8 Photos from Speaker Ryan's Border Tour
February 25, 2017 | Caleb Smith | http://spkrryan.us/2lSgAF0

Speaker Ryan and his congressional delegation arrived in McAllen, Texas, on a record hot February day—98 degrees—with a busy schedule ahead of them. They came to listen and to learn from the experts who know best about border security. Now, in eight photos, here is what the speaker saw and did during his tour of the Rio Grande Valley.

1. Arrival - Speaker Ryan meets with men and women charged with keeping the border secure. Here, Chief Ronald Vitiello of the U.S. Border Patrol welcomes him to McAllen Station.

2. Aerial Observation - Chairman Michael McCaul of the House Homeland Security Committee and Speaker Ryan tour the Rio Grande Valley in a Black Hawk helicopter for a bird's eye view of the topographical and logistical challenges with keeping the border secure.

3. Horse Patrol - Because of the terrain in South Texas, sometimes the best technology to get around is simply a horse. The Rio Grande Valley Horse Patrol has almost 40 horses that are adopted from the wild and trained for the field, and as the speaker attested after his own ride on one, "Those mustangs are great movers."

4. River Tour - Speaker Ryan tours the Rio Grande in a U.S. Border Patrol boat. The Rio Grande Valley Sector is responsible for operations along 316 river miles and leads the nation in deterred illegal entries, apprehensions, and narcotics seizures. Photo by NBC News

5. Security Briefing - Chief Manuel Padilla of the Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol briefs the congressional delegation on both the challenges and the success stories of securing the border in South Texas. In total, the RGV sector has more than 3,000 agents, covers more than 300 miles of territory, and has constructed 54 miles of fencing.

6. McAllen Station - The McAllen Station is responsible for protecting and defending the homeland for a 53-mile stretch along the Rio Grande. Here, Chief Padilla explains the processing system for illegal immigrants who are apprehended by the RGV Border Patrol.

7. Local Leaders - Speaker Ryan meets with local leaders to listen and learn more about the challenges they face in their communities along the border. Several city and county elected officials were in attendance, as well as Bishop Daniel Flores of Brownsville and Sister Norma Pimentel, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.

few years ago i was down on a ranch near douglas, with a now deceased friend that probably knew every rancher in the state for various reasons.
The guy we were visiting had a pretty cool little setup going, and we were talking about the problems of rounding up cattle given where it was located. ranchers soon was working in the mountains off horses, chasing illegals. He has a lot bigger cajones than i do.
A lot of the stuff is coming through the mountains now, rather than the flats that are more heavily patroled.
Shades of the Arizona Rangers in the 21st century.

McConnell rides side-saddle.

While not good - he's been on a horse enough to feel a bit comfortable. At least he's listening to the "boots on the ground"
Posted By: ironbender Re: Ryan rides - 02/25/17
He did OK.....for a greenhorn.

All those Congresscritters who chair sub committees who will have a voice in the " build a wall" decision should be required to take a long series of helicopter rides from Del Rio to Ft Hancock staying on the River.

It's probably 400-500 miles if you follow the River.

Better have a gunship escort, though.

You can lead a horse to the border, but you can't make it learn anything.

Hopefully, he's as smart as a mule! smile

I'm surprised he didn't use a side saddle

It's been thirty years since I've been on a horse, I'd hate to listen to you boys make fun of me on one today.

No worries, we're all studs here, reg'lar Spec Ops material grin

I only rode one of those rescued mustangs. I'll have to cut Ryan some slack.

I have about a 100 hours flying the border from Nogales east to NM line. Even landed a couple of times to pick up a BP agent to show him camps. Never even had a gun pointed at us. I think they realize that drawing that kind of attention is not going to help them much.

A helicopter tour and a foot tour up some of the garbage collecting washing should be mandatory for all of our legislators.

After about 1/2Mi of loping like that he'd have 2 ruptured testicles and need new discs between each vertebrae, at a minimum.
Posted By: Cigar Re: Ryan rides - 02/26/17
No he can't ride... Looks like he is trying to have sex with the horn on the saddle...
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Ryan rides - 02/26/17
Think about Obama riding an ass, or the other way around, I'm confused now!
