Been planning this trip for about a year. Leaving in about 2 hours on the bike - heading for Wash. DC and the annual Memorial Day ride for veterans. Will be meeting up in VA. at Patriot HD and ride with the Patriot Riders to the Pentagon lots to join up with Rolling Thunder for the Sunday event..

Hope to take 4-6 days on the way back - hitting the Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive and maybe Gettysburg, weather permitting.. Meander through PA, KY and a bit of TN before I get home about June 7th..

First really long solo ride I've done since '88. Hope I don't forget more than 1-2 items to pack. Made sure I had rain gear, and a helmet for those states that require it. Should end up with about 3,000-3500 miles total by the time I get back.. spent an hour yesterday waterproofing the leathers.. BTW, the "Golden Mink Oil" paste by Fiebing's is OUTstanding.. Every mink oil product I've had before smells like chit.. Not this - it's excellent..

About 1200 miles out there, but I'm taking my time and don't have to be at the motel in VA till Friday. I hope to put up some pix of the event when I get back..

Safe journey. I've been fortunate to be in DC during memorial day. Between rolling thunder and driving by Arlington, a very emotional experience.
