To fallen soldiers let us sing
Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
To the Mansions of the Lord

No more bleeding, no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night
Just divine embrace, Eternal light
In the Mansions of the Lord

Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard though the angels sleep
All through the ages safely keep
The Mansions of the Lord

This is a time for remembrance, and prayer. So many have gone before us so we can be free. Blessed are the peacekeepers. A very sincere thanks to those among us who answered the call to serve, and prayers for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

There is no small mystery in a hidden (by naturally occurring tundra shrubbery) series of grave plots and markers on a hill overlooking the sea at Saint Michael, Alaska. Among these graves are US (Union placarded) marble headstones marking the resting places of men - and women, like the 'Mary Decker' stone- who have somehow served their country in duties which have warranted recognition into posterity. Some of these stones indicate a "civilian" status.

These marble headstones would have stood 42 inches high before placement according to typical sizing information. The tundra has nearly been successful in swallowing up the stones and extinguishing the memories of the people whose resting places they represent.

I am in awe and humbled, perhaps as much by the mystery of the unknowns, as by the famous heroes.
