Big time. Saw him a few times in the late 70's. And the best song that commie Bonnie Raitt ever sang was "Angel from Montgomery."

"Starts ta drinkin heavy gets a big red nose, beats his old lady with rubber hose, takes her out to dinner, buys her new clothes....that's the way that the world goes round"

My Dad sings the opening to "Christmas in Prison" all the time.

They don't know how lucky they are,
They could have run into that tree,
Got struck by a bolt of lightning,
And raped by a minority…

No one writes like that anymore. The current music business sure could use a few more just like him.

~~~Lydia hid her thoughts like a cat,
Behind her small eyes hidden deep in her fat,
She read romance magazines up in her room,
Felt just like Sunday on Saturday afternoon~~~
Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a Purple Heart and a monkey on his back.
Memories, they can't be boughten.
They can't be won at carnivals for free.
Well it took me years to get those souvenirs,
And i don't know how they slipped away from me.
There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Yeah I’m a big fan I’d love to see him in concert!
Paradise is my favorite song of his.....
.."where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
but empty pop bottles is all we would kill."
Yep, another fan of John Prine.
I like you guys. I mention his name in my circle of friends and get blank stares. Same goes for Guy Clark. I think they have all been living under a rock.
Love John Prine I've seen him in concert twice.
Love all of his old stuff but this is probably my favorite.
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: john prine - 09/21/17
Yup, and I've done my part to add to the flock by playing him in the car for my grandson, along with selected Lyle Lovett and Roger Miller (Chug-a-Lug).
Probably get him thrown out of school someday if he ever starts singing those songs at recess!😱
I have been a fan for a long time.
Very good. I like that kind of music. A lot of red dirt music is similar to his.
