NASHVILLE, Tenn. —

A Nashville woman is accused of shooting a homeless man who asked her to move her Porsche SUV.

Katie Quackenbush, 26, is charged with attempted murder, according to The Tennessean.

According to the Metro Nashville Police, Quackenbush critically wounded 54-year-old Gerald Melton on Aug. 26. He remains in the hospital.

Police say Melton was trying to sleep on a sidewalk around 3 a.m. when the exhaust fumes and loud music from Quackenbush's SUV disturbed him.

When he asked the young woman to move the vehicle, an argument ensued and Quackenbush got out of the SUV with a weapon.

Police say she shot the man twice and fled the scene.

Jesse Quackenbush, Katie's father, has a different account of what happened.

He told the Tennessean that his daughter and her friend were being accosted by Melton, claiming the man made explicit and sexist remarks toward the two. He also claimed Melton threatened to kill the women.

According to the father, Quackenbush then grabbed her gun and got out of her SUV to escort her friend to her vehicle.

Melton allegedly began walking toward the woman, Jesse said, when his daughter told him she had a gun and fired two warning shots.

He claims she had no idea Melton had been hit by the gunfire.

Quackenbush's bond was set at $25,000. She is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 6.

I say she's guilty. Lock her up.

Unless there's more to her claims, the guy did not pose a bodily harm threat and she had no business opening fire. I would not give much for her chances based on this, daddy's money not withstanding.
Two warning shots to the midsection. That should do it.

Nashville has a problem with their homeless population. Not long ago, a homeless man in Nashville broke into a young nurse's apartment and stabbed her to death. I don't blame the girl, I'd shot his ass too.
Im sure a homeless bum sleeping on the sidewalk posed no threat to two 20 something females.

Sarcasm font on
She'll plead this down. They have her on discharging a firearm (warning shots) if she sticks with this story. I sense the prosecutor is a prick with a grudge against guns.

A high priced lawyer and she'll walk.

Never fire a warning shot or pull weapon and show it. The only reason to pull the weapon is if you fear for your life and then always kill the attacker. The should only be one story told and that's the one you tell after consulting with an attorney.

I want more evidence, but, Daddy better be ready to buy some good lawyers.

Nashville is hell bent on becoming the San Francisco of the south. I wouldn't put it past any prosecutor in metro davidson to throw the book at her just because, guns!

Instead of merely driving away?! Which she did after she shot him. Sounds like a good shoot to me.
She is screwed. If she had time to go back and get the gun out of the car she could have drove away....
