My idea was to put towers X number of yards apart along the border with machine guns and surveillance equipment in em. You would not have to light up but one or two undocumented democrats attempting to cross and word would get around. In the near future the towers could probably be manned by robots.

Next, anyone hiring an illegal goes to jail for five years where he repays society for his crime by cleaning ditches in a chain gang in one of the Southern states where it is hot as forty hells 9 months out of the year.

Problem solved without spending billions on a wall. But the chamber of commerce Republicans, the libtards, and the snowflakes would never go for it. So I'll take the wall if I can get it.
Screw the walls, set up secure guard towers every couple hundred yards. Let folks do a tag draw kinda like they do for elk and stuff out west. Cheap, effective and the stuff of many tales around the campfire.

I feel no love or mercy for those invading our country. Zero. Nada. Don't give a flip where you're from...........if you don't like your county, get off your sorry ass and fix it.
Never get built,
If you study history, walls have always been a target for invaders and they usually find a way in. This one won't be any exception.

All fun and games until they start shooting back!!!

From what I've read/seen, Mexican Cartels are well equipped and prone to violence........

True, but so is the US Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines...

I have more faith in their abilities to visit conflict-ending violence on their targets than the I do in the Mexican Cartels. whistle

If you read the quote I replied to, DD wasn't talking about staffing the "towers" with military.....

Maybe so, but your suggestion is still foolish......one or two guys up in a tower would be sitting ducks with the firepower the cartels have.
Seriously?

Absolutely disagree. Walls have worked for thousands of years to keep folks from passing thru... Of course a full military assualt would necessitate other defenses but pancho and jose would be unable to simply hoof it across and that is why it's a necessary part of the solution.
Nothing says the wall has to be cotinuous... just enough to funnel illegals onto places easier to protect.

I'm with Boomer on this one. If you're out on your boat duck hunting and you accidentally blast a hole in the bottom with a 12ga, the first thing you do is try to plug the hole with something to slow it down first. Then try to bail it out. Without the wall, they just run across with nothing to slow them down. It might not stop all, but it'll stop the majority.

Yes, seriously......do a little research, the Mexican drug cartels are very well armed, up to and including RPGs and armored vehicles......do as Digital Dan suggests and put ol' Cooter and Joe Bob in a tower with their deer rifles and see how long they last if against a drug cartel looking to move drugs across the border.....

https://www.wired.com/2012/11/cartel-weapons/
Seriously? No really.....
If we could put .mil on the border, and turn them loose, problem solved. Believe me, the cartels could not last a couple minutes against the full might of our military.

I will never forget the sights and sounds of the battle to take Baghdad International. A truly, one-sided fireworks show. Abrams and Warthogs make a lasting impression.
Hell yah let's light 'em up!
There is a lot of the Border that only has a barbed wire fence and NO road access. A wall is only a tool but a very good one IF YOU PUT BOOTS ON THE GROUND WATCHING IT.
One of my ranching friends has 10.5 miles of Border with Mexico. DHS has spent 42 million on infrastructure on his ranch. Ground sensors, permanent camera towers, mobile radar units and fencing. In the the last 5 years 42 trucks have cut down the 13’ fence and driven the three miles to the highway, unloaded their dope and returned to Mexico. All in broad daylight. Twice they even welded the wall back in place.
Lately the Cartels have stopped all people traffic. If you want out of Mexico you pay or pack dope.
The new Joint Field Commander for the Tucson sector recently had a press conference in which he stated that he would be detailing a lot more agents to the actual Border. Yahoo. We have been begging for this for close to 30 years. If they would have listened then every town in America wouldn’t be a Border town today.
Enjoyed lots of the comments and will get off my soapbox now.

A wall is fine and dandy and I fully support building one...BUT...a huge number of "ILLEGALS" enter this country LEGALLY then decide to stay...these sanctuary cities (and now my state mad) are passing legislation that allows these people to stay.....without federal laws with teeth that would prevent them from gaining employment and/or housing ANYWHERE within the borders of the USA and our territories, the "ILLEGAL" immigrant issue is gonna persist....

OK, but the NVA weren't just dealing with 2 guys in a guard tower with deer rifles were they??

If you think a couple of good old boys with deer rifles, sitting in a tower on a wall, can stand against a bunch of Mexican cartel soldiers equipped with RPGs, 50 cals, explosives and armored vehicles......you are delusional.

Now, if you are talking a couple of well trained guys with heavy weapons and military support......ok, I'll buy that......but it's still a silly discussion about something that would never happen.....

I believe you're missing the point. The cartels don't pull that kind of crap on this side of the US border with that heavy weaponry en masse. It'd be suicide as after one or two skirmishes, the US .gov would HAVE to do something about it as the optics would be terrible when you have cartels operating with that heavy weaponry on US territory. There's a reason the drugs are snuck into the US, and the cartels don't run semis with APCs guarding the semis.
Well at least the 4th from the left has some sort of overhang it appears like, think it would be better if it was curved outward and downward instead of being flat. Mofo,s could Batman and robin the flat overhang probably laugh

Good ol' boys with with deer rifles are your words, not mine, though I will admit some of the GoBs I know are fair savvy about deer rifles and longish shots.

Fairly obvious to me you have gulped the Hollywood tea on this chitt, hope it leaves no aftertaste. You cower behind misguided lore and submit to dogma w/o experience with any of it best I can figure. Tell me, how many grunts you think we had in perimeter bunkers in Nam and how many were lost to RPGs, armored vehicles, and (OMG!) explosives. -Hint- It wasn't that many, not even thru the entire course of the war. .50 cal guns are not anything special and no particular threat to defensive positions. Myth loses to reality every time.
Mucho trabajho...poco dinero...ese
It's sure interesting to hear the opinions of folks that don't know much about the border,or border towns.
My ranch is 55 miles from the Rio Grande River and I've had my share of illegals rolling through my place.
Hell, one chit in the middle of the dinner table in the bunk house.
For the most part, they are good folks just trying to make life better for their families.
The process of gaining entry to work is so long and expensive that most of them just say "To hell with it",
and get here the best way they can. That's how bad it is in Mexico.
I'm all for the wall. I think that the process for them to come here legally is idiotically wrong and it should
be fixed,now.
And if anyone wants to shoot those folks,go ahead. You'll have to answer for those souls one day.
I've done enough stuff in my life that I have to atone for, but knock your headlights out.
I'll pass...

True that, and the immigration process is absurdly convoluted. Time for the tool chest there without doubt.

It is bad in Mexico and most of the rest of the third world. It is a problem of their own making however and they need to fix what they created. The U.S. cannot fix all of what ails the planet and will descend into the same pit if we try. My take on the border, or any border is it presents as a national security issue, first and foremost. Countries such as Mexico which turn a blind eye are committing an act of war by omission of oversight in my opinion. As a country is defined by its people, the country oversees the people. Mexico looks the other way because their "model" is a failure and their exported nationals send dollars home to their loved ones. Their cartels send their product to our loved ones. I will be content to atone for sins in the afterlife, but I'm not there yet and am damn tired of this BS. We secure our borders, peaceably or violently, it matters not to me, or someday we will marvel at the news as distant videos record the swelling mushroom cloud over what was once Dallas, or some other locale of their choosing. If it takes a perfect storm to stem the tide, so be it. My land first, their needs as practical.

.02, mebbe a bit more.
We need the wall. And as to our immigration laws being tough? They need to be tougher. No one entering illegally should be allowed to stay. And no illegal should receive any more welfare than being fed until removed from the USA. Which should be immediate. Pregnant and delivers a baby, Not a US citizen.

No Mas
The boy saying the wall will not help are probably the same ones who said drilling for our own oil would not make a difference. Drill baby drill-build baby build. Ed k
Farm workers ain't the ones to shoot. We definitely need a fix for them. But let's blast the narcos with prejudice!

I think Trump is on the right track if WE can get him support in congress.

Stirred it up with the NFL, let that fester awhile, then BAMM POW hit them full bore this week with so much nobody can keep up! MAGA!

It's like what Trump has said repeatedly since he announced his candidacy...we need COMPREHENSIVE reform...both immigration and guest worker...it would be an easy fix if we didn't have about half of congress supporting the commie/socialist agendas...
Only half? Surely you jest.

DTS! Now..........
Just because someone brought you here as a kid and now your an adult does not give you the right to stay. A lot of the illegal immigrants have been here long enough to have applied to be a citizen but have not. They are too busy getting free money from the government. They all need to go back.
There will never be a wall. Republicans don't want it. They went along with it during the campaign, but they aren't going to spend money on this.

They should be making the rest of the border wall the same as they did in California, Arizona, and New Mexico.
The National Guard in each state put up the wall where they could on the cheap. All you are trying to do is
channel the normal people to the border crossing. those 3 states have proved this by stopping 90% of
the illegals from crossing those borders. You deploy the border Patrol to arrest the other 10%. Plus you use
all your sensors and aircraft observation to help deploy those border agents. The problem still left is Texas.
They have 1200 miles of border and only put up less than 200 miles of fence. That other 1000 mile of
open area is where 90% of the illegal border crossing take place. Texas National Guard needs to get to
work. The governor on down needs to help the Feds get control of that border and do the proven plan
that the other 3 states did. When you cut 90% of the traffic with a cheap old fence, the Border Patrol can
handle the rest. The border patrol knows what we need and Trump needs listen to the people down on
the Border doing the job now. We don,t need a Cadillac fence, we need to do it on the Cheap.

Did you know 87.623% of all statistics are made up? Except in your case where it is a lot closer to 100%.

Many are not crossing because Trump told them things are changing. There is no way the BP with current budgets can cover that thousand miles...

At the risk of being ridiculed there is another option you lot seem to be over-looking...take the place, kill all the corrupt and evil buggers, then call it something novel like 'The Newest Mexico", 6th inhabited US Territory.
Do CBP officers want a wall?

Maybe so but they have 3 times as many agents as they did 10 years ago. The border patrol has lot of electronic help.
