No porcupines.

Just a redneck Monday. A bit of a chill in the air, so I got the fire going before skinning and processing him. My bride made me a whiskey at 9am for the skinning/fire duty. Cooked a tenderloin on the fire after the coals were nice and red. This smokepole hunting is fine, but I'm ready or rifle season to start. Which reminds me, I have to clean the rifle now. Damn it.

Nothing fancy, just a nice fall Monday morning, the way they should be.

Good way to start your day!

Not a thing not to like about that picture......

The kids and I skinned out a pair of whitetails on Friday evening by our fire pit, while my dad and my wife sat in chairs and visited with us. One of my favorite things to do. Snapped a photo of my wife the next morning as she prepared to grab her side of the overflowing gut/carcass bucket. I got death threats for my troubles....

That looks to be about the perfect eating size.....well done.

I plan to do the same thing this year but I'm waiting to catch a nice fat young one standing in front of the garage

Quote from True Grit...

Why did they hang him so high?

Perhaps in the belief it would make him more dead.

Great way to get the week started.
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Sorry - 11/13/17
When you have 3 dogs you hang them high till it's time to do the work. They go NUTS over a deer.
Posted By: LeroyBeans Re: Sorry - 11/13/17
Ah, yes indeed. That would explain it for sure...

You sure that one will taste right, he's got a broken tine?
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Sorry - 11/13/17
He's been fighting. Actually smelled just a little 'rutty'

I am jealous Scott!! looks like a grand time

Cool. never could like non aged venison, but there was something about tryiing to enjoy the kill right there on the spot.

Good on ya!

Now coat that bore and plug and you won't have to clean right away....
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Sorry - 11/13/17
I typically let them hang a few days, but this ain't the week for that. Have yet to eat a bad one off our place, besides you can 'age' it after you take it out of the freezer too.

Very cool, Scott!

On your hoist set up, are you tying off to a cleat on the backside of the tree?
