On a coyote stand...

I put my son behind me to cover my six and a small area I couldn't see due to a rise in the field. Around the 12 minute mark I heard one shot but no "WHOMP" and my temper started to climb. Then I heard shot #2 and again no "WHOMP" and at the same moment I see a dog sprinting right to left about 500yds. out. I yell over my shoulder "Gee, son. Great job. He's just over a 1/4 mile away!"

He replies: "I GOT A DEAD FREAKIN' DOG 40 YARDS IN FRONT OF ME!"

Whoops... grin

I was going to but I read on the internet that shooting dogs at that range and killing them is an unsuccessful attempt at calling dogs.

So... you know. There's that.

I knew if you were eating crow someone had to have shot it for you.

Yes, and at that distance there is always the improper possibility of gut or ass shooting one and then really having to eat crow.
Great looking pelt there.

Good looking yote. If you were going to put up the pelt and sell it, what would it bring?

I think it's ok to wear if you purchased pre-boycott.

Three quick stands this morning and saw four dogs, shot at and killed one. Not too bad but I was hoping for a dynamite morning.

Doesn't matter whether you're calling.....trapping......or treeing em with dogs...Cat seasons open from mid Dec. to mid Feb.

There's also different seasons for chasing Lions and Bear with dogs but I'm getting too old for those long races in the high country so me and my little Cur Dog stick with the occasional Bobcat down here in the river drainage's.

Yes. .223. The Fiocchi stuff with the 50gr. V-Max. Great stuff.

He hit it both times. I don't think I heard the hits due to it being at the bottom of that rise.

He said he shot it twice so he "wouldn't have to hear about it" if it got away. And people say being an ass hole has no benefit. Grin...

DeFlave: Good work there on the Coyote and the son raising!
That Coyote looks big to me - I remember back in the 1960's when a big "Montana White" Coyote would bring $200.00 at the Seattle fur buyers!
And that was when $200.00 meant something.
Again compliments to you and please be passed to your son.
Keep after'em.
