I just got Hearing aids at age 60. It is amazing what I have been missing for last 20+ years. Only complaint I have is "THE WORLD IS WAY TO LOUD!"
Yeah....I know. I have a hearing loss in range 3 only. Very good low tones, but difficulty in crowds. I recently received 1 myself, and while it does make things louder, it is not that much clearer.
Mine have been very clear and I have a severe hearing loss. The blue tooth has given me a little trouble as every ones phone is a little different but they are very easy to control with Iphone
Do hearing aids do anything for tinnitus or just amplify it? Serious question here.
I tried hearing aids for my tinnitus based upon claims that the masking function would help. No matter what type or volume of the masking sound it did not help with the tinnitus. Despite any and all claims to the contrary, there is no cure for tinnitus you are stuck with it for life. Hearing aid masking technology may help with tinnitus in some cases, it did not in mine.

Did you get your hearing aids from a professional and pay for quality (4-6K) or did you go the cheap $19.95 Miracle Ear, Walmart rout?
Did not have tinnitus so can't answer that question. No these are not walkers ear or the cheap stuff. Mine are Zerena 9 miniRite by Berafon
I get a free pair from the V.A. every 5 years and free lifetime repair and batteries

I've had Tinnitus for 20 years, and hearing aids for 2, they do not help with Tinnitus. There are some that claim to mask it, and I tried a pair before I purchased, but found them useless for the tinnitus.
YES THEY HELP MASK THE RINGING, my right ear rings all the time and that hearing aid is broke right now . I have to wait a week for them to replace it. the ringing is driving me nuts again without the hearing aid. low salt diet will help to. if you are not a veteran go to Costco to buy hearing aids. they are way cheaper than the regular hearing doctors.
fuzzytail, the world will calm down after you get adjusted in a few weeks. back ground noise is a bitch the first few weeks.and getting used to hearing the noises inside your head drove me nuts.

Tinnitus isn't real sound that can be amplified. It's a nerve problem that nothing can fix that I know of. Masking it is about all they can do. I have a minor case of it that's a rushing sound. It doesn't bother me now but hopefully it won't get a lot worse.
I've worn hearing aids for about 12 years. They help but they aren't a cure all. How much they help depends on the person. We're all different. I have a hard time in crowds and with women's voices in particular.

Good for you sir, and thanks for your service.
I got a pair a few years ago, mostly because the insurance paid for them, but also because I was told they would help the tinnitus. They do mask it to a certain extent, and although they do help, I rarely wear them. They are useless outside, because they pick up the wind, and you get a whistling. My hearing specialist said not to wear them if you're shooting, or mowing the yard, or on any kind of loud equipment. Also, if you're in a crowded room, all the noise can drive you nuts.
