I hear that everyone deserves representation, so lets see how our attorney friends would defend this guy.

Now since the cops did not charge him with DUI, and actually drove him home (being a Basketball star had nothing to do with that, I am sure), he might not really need an attorney. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
Your correct...he wasn't charged, he needs no lawyer.
Wonder what effect this will have on his endorsement opportunties. Too early for me to think much, but I'm certain others here will come up with some doozies.
Wow... Welcome to twenty-first century America. I'm quite sure I wouldn't be treated like that. I'd better sign off now before I start ranting about how fame and/or wealth seems to favor those who have it as compared to the average citizen in a similar situation.
P.S...... Wonder what M.A.D.D. ( Masturbaters against drunk driving ) will have to say regarding this?
What about what D.A.M.M (drunks against mad mothers) thinks?
No charge, no defense needed; at least criminally. Re: his endorsements, however, if I were he agent, I'd have him getting lined up RIGHT now to get into rehab AND into PR work for anti-drunk driving ads, etc.

'Course, that's just me...
Me too.... I can see his agent doing damage control via rehab and PR stuff, etc.. I wanna see the public service ads. "If you've been drinking. PLEASE don't get behind the wheel... and even if you haven't been drinking.... PLEASE don't masturbate while driving". Perhaps our lawmakers, in their infinite wisdom, could enact new legislation to "do something" about this reckless, dangerous behavior. Then if something like this occurs again the violater could be slapped with a "DWM", (Driving While Masturbating) charge which would carry an even STIFFER penalty than just the DWI, but in this case they could write him up for both. He could possibly still do endorsements for Cadillac; "I REALLY GET OFF in my new Cadillac Escalade" and donate the money to some rehab program.
Considering the statements he made at the scene, and the witnesses to said statements.....I don't think I'd want to be one of those two police officers.Sounds like THEY are going to need attornies at their bribary trials.
Driving drunk while spanking? That's a new one.
I investigated an accident once where an 80 year old guy had a heart attack while driving his car. A 16 year old was performing fellatio on him, and his ticker couldn't take the stress. She felt bad, but she got her $20 first.

Where did it say they took any money?

store surveillance video... The video also shows Griffin admitting he is drunk

Well, now that is interesting. I don't know about the DUI laws in Minnesota, but if there is video of the accident, showing him as the driver, and the audio clearly records him saying he was drunk - could be local prosecutors could still charge him with DUI.

I've never had a case like that myself, but you don't have to have an on-scene arrest in Florida for prosecutors to file later. Usually, it's in the context of a drunk driver taken to the hospital - he's too banged-up to take a breath test - the prosecutors get a copy of the hospital blood test - months later, the charge and then the arrest.

But the video... It's a security video from a store? I've never heard of a store surveillence system that gave good audio of people standing in the parking lot. Must be some store.

As for what the cops were thinking of? That kind of stuff goes on all the time, even with college football teams.

I read one of the first studies released and was amazed it took more than common sense to know phone use requires a high percentage of a brain's resources. This is why so many phone drivers out there are wandering all over the place. Anticipating their turn to speak. Avoiding uncomfortable dead time in communication. These are normally not concerns when talking to a passenger. "Hands free" won't change a thing, and now this has been proven as well.
Some people are better with it. Even heavy drinkers, or old people can be good drivers compared to BAD DRIVERS.
It's unfortunate that people don't have to prove driving ability every few years. It's unfortunate that everyone has to drive in America. Many should never be on the road but are (like my 94yrold neighbor)(or my aggressive wife).
But cell phones could be scrambled with a car out of park. If the gov't enforced a few standards onto auto makers. It should be handled with technology.
