I decided to switch to a boonie hat while at the range. That means that I need to switch to ear plugs, because my muffs won't work with the boonie hat. Since my ear canals are on the small side, I have trouble with the disposable plugs. I'd like to get something that has a lot of protection, hopefully 30 dB or better. Does anybody have a solution that is cheap, effective, and comfortable?

Their Laser Lites fit pretty well too and have a slightly higher NRR of 32.

I like the moldex brand spark plugs. Soft foam so may fit smaller ear canal. 33nrr

Cant recall how long it's been since there wasn't a box of Howard Leight Max here. 200 box about 20 bucks at Amazon, their in my glove-box, shooting bag, shaving kit (fishing buds who snore), cutting grass, weed wacking, you name it....NR 33.

Can't comprehend the Max small, the regular Max compress down to the size of Q-tip, or smaller, then expands out to the size of your ear canal.

Any one in the Ear business will tell you that expanding ear plugs are superior for ear protection, as they expand their basically a custom fit.

I'll recommend Howard Leight for just about anything. They make a "slick" expandable with a rubber insert in the middle that's really effective, too. But I always double up if I'm going to be shooting anyway, muffs and plugs.

Fishing partner sold hearing aids. He made me a dummy set, just soft rubber with a little knob on the end to take out. Worked great for 25 years until my puppy got a hold of one.

I have big ear canals. I use golf balls

I bought a case of E.A.R classic plugs .

They are easy to roll down small and do a good job of making things quiet.

When shooting rifles with breaks i use them and a set of muffs.

They don't cost much.

I like Skull Screws best myself, but the plastic piece in the center might be uncomfortable for you. Why don’t you PM me your mailing address and I’ll send you a pair to see if they will fit you?

I seem to remember a set of earmuffs that had a head band that would swivel behind the head for hat wearers. Dont remember the name,tho.

If I can find someone who carries them here, I would like to try the Decibullz with the insert. I figure they would be great for hunting. The standard plugs are only about $25 and all of the Decibullz are custom fit to your ear, just like a mouth guard.

Personally, when at the range, I like wearing both plugs and muffs, together they give greater protection and can help avoid flinching.

Try locating a set of muffs that have the band behind the head.

You can always try the ladies or youth foam ones. If that doesn't work, spend the money on some custom moulded ones. Money well spent. I hate muffs.
