I've never understood the ban syndrome. That is a leftist trait to want to control other people, ban them from speaking, eating in public places, etc. The joke is that when a conservative doesn't like something he avoids it. When a liberal doesn't like something he tries to ban it for everybody.

I understand and completely agree with banning someone who is repeatedly offensive, crosses a line into grossly inappropriate personal attacks, racist or universally offensive, etc. Even that is a judgment call.

But to ban someone because he is stupid, or his politics or ideas are lame is a lazy approach. I'm not for banning such people and agree with Rick's handling of the site.

Within a few posts we can tell if someone has an agenda, is a political troll, is maybe opinionated but not very articulate, a good ol boy lazy about precise wording, shrewd, naive, a one-topic bore, etc. If a poster has nothing to say, hardly ever, I don't read them, whether it is politics or reloading. There are a few people whose posts I seldom pass. Very few.

Others I never read after the first few.

PS added: The original request to openly show multiple user names from one IP address may be a good idea. Gotta think about it but am for it on my first pass. What are the down sides?

-run up page hits
-keep some members who must reply to the trolls engaged indefinitely

This is exactly what advertisers want to see in a website, and will pay more to advertise. All of which leads to more $$$ for site owner.

Only if we, the collective membership, respond. If we ignore them by not responding (I’m not a fan of the ignore button) then they lose their “power”. It’s sometimes hard to do but if someone as impulsive as I am can do it anybody can. 😂

There is not much incentive to ban anyone here. The real ban power comes from members shunning Paddlers and other deploreables.

I appreciate the way he runs this site and don’t advocate banning someone just because they’re fugging idiots or I don’t agree with their politics. There’s certainly a time and circumstance that banning is appropriate but not just because they’re liberals.

I try I really try to ignore the collective stupidity from the left leaning members. As Aces said my impulsiveness get the better of me. I realize I have a problem... That’s always the first step to recovery... Ignoring them I mean.

Sorry, but almost all of the user IPs are dynamically assigned, not permanently assigned. Secondly, you can log in from any IP, permanent or assigned. I would guess a lot of people do log in from multiple IPs on a regular basis. Next you have multiple members living in one location which means that you might have more than one legitimate member with the same IP even with dynamic IPs because they do not necessarily change very often. Lastly, it is ridiculously easy to spoof an IP if you want to. Even if Rick wanted to log MAC addresses it would be easy to spoof that and I am sure that a number of members here log in from home/work/public computers fairly often.

Sorry Billy. I am an engineer by training and spent 10 years as an IT manager. I give the logical explanation once. After that we hold a company wide meeting on the loading dock where the slow learners are gutted out and tossed in the dumpster without doing to courtesy of shooting them first. It took a whole career, but I eventually learned that an easy to understand example was best use of my time.

You should plan a meeting to get one of the forklifts (from your loading dock) to pull whatever is stuck up your ass, out. You tell them to grab a chain, I think it’s stuck up there good and they may need to tie two together. PM me
