Large herd, 50+ on the Tn elk cam right now. Lots of babies in the group, which is great.
The lookout tower isn’t too far from the house. Me and my dad went about a month ago and there were about 75 or so at the viewing tower. They are pretty thick in and around Royal Blue.
I was lucky enough to be camp bitch for my friend, who had a tag last year. He took a nice 6X7, which was the biggest taken last year. Great to see the spots we saw then, live and in color with more elk. Thing that got me most about yesterday is the number of babies. Hope the herd does well and continues to grow. I am in the drawing (again) and hoping that someday, I will get a chance.
Missouri is on track to open our first modern day elk hunt in 2020. It will be a limited draw opportunity and I guarantee my name will be in the hat for the draw. I watched four bulls through the fall and winter last year while bowhunting and muzzleloader hunting deer and throughout predator calling during winter time. Love bowhunting deer in October and hearing those bulls bugling through the Ozark hills. Incidentally we are also slated to have our first black bear season open about the same time.
