Child pornography reason behind Sunspot Observatory closure, according to court documents.

A federal search warrant reveals that Sunspot Solar Observatory was shut down as FBI agents conducted computer forensic searches for child pornography.

The source of child pornography was traced to an IP address used at the observatory and a source within the building observed a computer with "not good" images on it, the warrant states.

An investigation by the FBI revealed that a janitor is the main suspect in the search, however he has not been charged with a crime even though his name in on the warrant.

The warrant states the suspect would use the observatory Wifi and a personal laptop to download the child pornography.

A limited number of people have access to the observatory from dusk until dawn, which helped narrow their search.

The observatory in the mountains of southern New Mexico had been closed since Sept. 6 because of an undisclosed security concern, but reopened on Monday.

So they had to shut down the local post office for internet porn? He was printing it off, throwing it in an envelope and mailing it to his pedo pals? Give me a break. Our govt is so full of [bleep].... And we fund it.

Hillary's emails proly sent them there
OMG, they expect us to believe that crap?
anyone that believes this silliness is smoking crack.
Yeah, they needed a blackhawk, multiple sheriff's dept deputies for backup, and had guys running around with antennas for that. And the FBI wouldn't tell the sheriff the simple reason for it all.

Riiiiiight..... whistle
We had a similar situation at company where I was the IT guy. This was 15 years ago. One of the draftsmen was staying late and surfing porn on an engineer's PC. It didn't take weeks to figure out what was going on, more like minutes.

We kidded the engineer for years over that one-- even his boss was in on it. The draftsman got the boot, and at last I heard, he had never worked again.

I agree that, whatever it was, it wasn't the janitor collecting kiddy porn.
LOL..

People I know there aren't buying it either.

Considering how it all went down and way it was handled, plus the track record of certain agencies involved, not surprising that it would cause some to question if this may be the old, "it's for the children", cover-up story again.
Is the Observatory open again?
People were demanding "an explanation".

They got one. Plain and simple.

That it's BS doesn't matter... The govt will never reverse itself on it either.

Last place I worked before retiring employed usually around a half dozen phone operators that handled customer's emergency equipment problems reporting. In the 11 years that I worked there only two males ever were hired to work in the call center, the rest of the time it was always staffed with women. One of the two males was terminated shortly after he was hired when it was discovered that he also ran an adult porn website on the side and was conducting 'business' and accessing related emails on company equipment and time.

We hired several temp workers through temporary services to help count and record during annual inventories. One year a fairly young woman was busted surfing black adult porn 'hook-up' sites on a company computer, internet and premises by our IT guy The temp workers were instructed that they were allowed access to our in-house network for inventory purposes only, and not allowed to connect to the internet. She was immediately told to get her personal belongings leave and reported to the temp service she worked out of as to why.

We both may be going to Hell, but I laughed.
The FBI is capable of this type of stupidity.
Well, I don't know--but the American public seems to be...

I dunno, child porn and abuse is a silent and well cloaked epidemic, it's looking like. Monsters do horrendous things to undeserving children.

I would think that would be their busiest time... but what do I know. 😄
There have been a lot of child porn and trafficking cases in the news lately. It seems like a lot more than normal to me, but that could be just because I'm noticing them more after all the pizza stuff hit the internet.

The Feds could be just following links. It is a strange place to hear about getting locked down.
