NY prosecutors announce Manafort indictment after federal sentencing.

New York prosecutors announced the indictment of former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort on Wednesday, only minutes after his sentencing in a federal case.

The 16 charges unveiled by Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance relate to mortgage fraud, conspiracy and falsifying business records. In a statement, Vance said Manafort's alleged actions "strike at the heart of New York's sovereign interests, including the integrity of our residential mortgage market."

Crucially, President Donald Trump does not have pardon power for state charges. Trump has not explicitly ruled pardoning his former campaign official. White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the president would decide whether to pardon Manafort "when he's ready."

Earlier Wednesday, a federal judge sentenced Manafort to 43 months of additional prison time on conspiracy charges lodged by special counsel Robert Mueller as part of his probe of Russian election meddling and possible Trump-campaign collusion.

Less than a week earlier, Manafort had received a 47-month prison sentence in another federal case lodged by Mueller. Manafort's combined prison time in the Mueller cases totals.

A spokesman for Manafort did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment on the state prosecutors' charges.

The goal is to scare and discourage ANYONE not already part of the ruling class from ever challenging them, or helping another like Trump. Manaford is just a pawn in the political game.

Why in the world would you say something like that ?,,,, he's an admitted criminal stealing millions of dollars from the US...and you see him as a saint ?....I see a crooked thief that goes to jail.

Just look at the charges against him, all non-Russia or Trump related...so why get your panties in a bunch ?
