Thinking about bringing another pet into our home but I'd like to research my options beyond D&Cs.

Small adult only home with a crazy parrot and a yellow lab if that helps.

Thoughts please and a big thank you.
My suggestion was going to be a parrot, but then I see you already have one.
Pet Rock?

...aquarium?.....tree frog sanctuary? Different.
there was a 15foot reticulata python? up for grabs the other day. my daughter didn't want it for her twins. they've already got one snake, and have adopted off another one.

they've also done gerbils, and spotted rats. and cats.
Ferret if you want to drive the lab crazy, and aren't too attached to the parrot.

We had two rats as pets - or I should say my wife had one when I met her, then we got another one a few years later. They are clean and very intelligent and inquisitive little critters and while not exactly affectionate like a dog it would sit on her shoulder or snuggle in her sweater.

The daughter got tired of the second one after a while so it sat in a boring, sterile plastic cage alone all day with nothing to do and basically went crazy. It began clawing at itself, you'd come home and find it's chin bloody with its little paws bloody to the elbows. I finally sent it to rat heaven and while I've snuffed a big pile of rodentia through the years with nary a care that wasn't something I enjoyed doing.

Do all ferrets have that strong odor?

Two i spent time with....whew.
Where's Roger?

rats can be underrated as pets.

might could get deflave to begin shipping iguanas to interested owners, maybe using a 5 dollar usps box.
Based on how many are still living with their parents ,Millenials make good house pets..

Anaconda.... Soon you'll not have to worry about the other two... laugh laugh
Adopt a Millennial, they do a little sometimes, maybe they won’t cshit on the floor.
We have been married for over 48 years, and the only house pet we've ever had was a damned cat that our daughter's college friend conned us into keeping for a "few weeks" until she found a good home for her. A few weeks was over 10 years.

I'll never do that again. Don't want any animals in the house.....or fish....or snakes.....or anything. Once thought I might like a dog in the house, but after helping take care of my daughters dog when they were out of town, I very quickly changed my mind.
I won’t have an animal at all after having 6 to ten pointers for 25 years. They were in a kennel, but I’ve had enough.

Even the ones that have the scent glands removed smell...they’re very neat little critters but a ton of work...
I heard playboy bunnies make great pets.

They get fat.

They turn on you too.

It's a toss up to see which happens first.
Fish
Trap some baby skunks. Kinda like cats but cooler

For about a week.

If you want an open ended learning experience, that will keep you occupied for the rest of your life, get an aquarium. The bigger, the better. I would not mess with anything smaller than about 90 gal. Maybe a 120 gal.

Much like reloading, you can make fish keeping as complicated and interesting as you care to.

Or you can just toss a few community specimens into the tank and observe the pretty colors. Much like shooting whatever Wallyworld has on sale.
I'd say grey fox pup.

Stx has a cool critter there.

pet skunk
We've had fish, birds, rabbits, chinchilla's, a trurtle and a coon. Nothing is as good as a good dog.
long time ago friend of mine bought his girl friend a baby pig. brought it up to my house just before christmas, we took it over to show it to my slovak grandmother. she got a big grin and reached for a knife. disappointed when she found out not for her.
Cats, dogs, and goats, belong outside with the rest of the farm animals, IMHO. Don't like smelling dog or cat when I enter someone's home and no one will ever smell that in my home - never impolite about it but I am out of there as quick (as in Quick Karl) as humanly possible, while being polite.

No doubt the smell of freshly laundered clothes and folks that shower daily, offends you...

You're out of your league, Gomer. Give up now and go away.

I second this motion, but get them very young and raised with the other creatures and no problem don't even need to de-scent them. thus they could live in the wild if things change. Cheers NC

Tough!
A couple of great things about moving to Texas:

1. You are immediately the best looking guy in town, and the thinnest.
2. You are automatically the smartest person in the entire State.
It's called being a Gentleman. Something that you would not understand.

thats the plan unless he proves to be to much to trouble.
My daughter got a "ball python". A freaking snake!!!

Don't think I'd recommend it.
I've always thought it would be cool to have a pet skunk.

People that consider a snake a "pet" are just not right in the head. lol
I just got a baby skunk today at work. So little his eyes aren’t even open. Cute little bugger but I don’t think we’re going to keep him.

When he grows a little bigger his tongue might be long enough to clear your sinuses and clean your tonsils ... grin
