Just watched on the news, so emotional I still cant eat my breakfast, it sits cold in a bowl, if any American can watch that without getting emotional, come see me, i'll show you how to cry.

+1........ I've known so many who were there or even more who were in support roles. All of them gone now. But they had a great influence on me. They were all great Americans. Unlike a lot of our modern, politically correct, anti American, socialist commies.

A horrible sacrifice, and a magnificent victory all combined.

My paternal grandmother had two brothers at Normandy. They both survived. Neither would talk about what it was like. One did open up about it when in his cups one night where my father was present.

What he described was much like the beach scenes in Saving Private Ryan. Men killed, drowned, and arms, legs blown off. The water was red with blood.

Such sacrifice.

I spoke to a D-Day veteran some years ago who landed at red beach at 8:30 am. He said to me the opening scene of "Saving Private Ryan" did not do the carnage justice.

The ones that I know that are still here,"a few are left" are saddened at the way the world is turning now.For them to think of what they went thru and how the US is acting now is depressing.

I am surprised they have not come back from their graves and kicked some a$$.

I was blessed to have two Men for Grandpa's that fought in that war, one made a 41 year career out of the Army.

On many occasions I have at night while in bed thought about all those young men (kids basically) that waded ashore at Normandy knowing that they were more than likely going to get the s hit shot out of them but yet they somehow forced their fear behind them and went and did their duty! This is not to disparage any others that have given their lives while serving in the military for they were just as patriotic and loyal to our country as any others which have done so! The Normandy landing is somehow special for me for I was 16 months old when the Japs hit Pearl Harbor and while growing up I was well aware of what had taken place on 6 June 1944. My FIL, Winfred Wesley Jones, Sgt. US Army made that landing and survived and when I married his daughter he became my best friend. He told me several events concerning his 36 months in Europe with Patton but I never prodded him for particulars! He had seen things he didn't want to recall! He was a quiet man, humble, and pleasant to be with. We killed many quail together as his hobby was training bird dogs! I miss him terribly bad as he passed away at age 64 from heart attack! Having served in the military myself for five years I get a lump in my throat when I watch these landings on film and I am so thankful that many of these old Vets have gotten to go back and visit Normandy. I know many have suffered for a long time concerning this event and possibly returning will have given them some closure!
