I ate a small bite of rhubarb pie, and am craving a drink of milk. Do you drink much milk?
Posted By: rockinbbar Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
About a gallon and a half a week.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
The blacksmith, machinist we use back in Iowa grew up on a dairy farm. Merle says he drinks a gallon a day.
Posted By: 5sdad Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
I used to drink vast quantities, then they told me that I couldn't do that anymore. I still would if I could. (But, I can't; so I shan't.)

only buttermilk.

About 4, maybe 5 gal. a week. That's between me and the wife. I prefer the whole milk, but 2% is ok.

Grew up on ice cold raw milk dipped right out of the bulk tank. now it's about a gallon a week right out of the pasturized jug in the fridge.
Posted By: Cheesy Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
Grew up on a dairy. The last time I drank milk was likely 20 years ago at grandmas table, hate the stuff, but didnt want to offend her.

Wife buys skim or 1%. That offends me. My cereal needs whole.

The difference between homogenized and pasteurized store bought milk versus raw milk straight from the Bukk tank filled from Brown Swiss cows is unfathomable, unless you’ve actually had both. I’m used to store bought now for cereal, but when raw milk was no longer available it sucked.
Posted By: dale06 Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
Have not drank a glass in 50 plus years. But do have breakfast cereal with it, about a quart a week.

I never had raw cow milk. How does it compare to raw goat milk?
Posted By: renegade50 Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
Used to when younger.
As a teenager it was drink on the plastic jug and make it collaspe type of thing.

Now I will take 4 or 5 different cereals, put a little of each in a big
ole Jethro bodine bowl and eat it maybe once a month.
Chyt my guts out.
Might have a glass of milk with a chubby treat once in a great while maybe once or twice a month
Chyt my guts out.

If I eat chubby treats with water for a drink
No chyt guts out.

Processed milk products like cheese
No effect...

Liquid milk outta a jug is like colonoscopy prep almost for me it seems.

Heck yeah, average about 2 gallons raw milk per week, well, what's left after Wife takes cream off the top for butter, just had near a quart with supper, she filled a crock pot with loin, potatoes, carrots and onion on Sunday, had five fresh jalapeno peppers from the garden with that for supper, needed that milk, those sombucks were lighting me up, nice cool down now, about to go back out and mow till dark.

Gallon a week. Ice cold 2% or even 1. In a frozen mug, or with ice cubes. Kills my thirst
I have to have halfnhalf with cereal, or on occasion whipping cream
There are some people who can't digest. The no lactose, no?? stuff tastes horrid to me
Once had a source of raw, and sure enough I finally got undulant fever
Posted By: Mike_S Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
My dad and uncle both worked for a local dairy when I was a kid. Whole milk from a glass bottle ice cold was the best. They both refused to drink anything but whole milk. Chocolate and all the low fats/skim used milk that wouldn’t pass the inspection to be graded as whole milk.

I go through about a half gallon a week.
Posted By: NVhntr Re: Drink Milk? - 06/26/19
Don't drink much of it but I do use it on my Wheaties, usually 2%.

every once in a while I get me a cravin' for a white Russian...…...Hell, I already have the kahlua and vodka on hand.

Been known to go through about a gallon on those days.

But normally, we buy milk by the quart and hope we use it before it turns into something resembling cheese curd.

No, milk and I don't get along real well. It digests fine, and I have no problem with ice cream or butter, but if I drink milk I wind up hacking and spitting for a couple hours to clear the phlegm it triggers. I haven't had milk in many years. I even eat breakfast cereal dry with a spoon.

Little brother, back when he was raising 4 little kids on a budget after his bride runoft would buy whole milk for the kids, water it down 1/1 and call it 2%.

Went to a Van Halen concert once and Sammy was wearing a Got Milk? t-shirt.

I love milk. Has to be really cold.

Humans are the only critter that continues to drink milk once they are grown.

Ain't got a clue if this is good or indifferent, but a guy that had a degree in animal husbandry told me that.

I didn't bother to ask him what that meant, as I was still kinda wondering about his role on the animal husbandry thing.

Back in the day had four teenaged boys at home. At least a gallon of milk at breakfast. They ate their cereal out of mixing bowls. Many years ago lived in the edge of Boise. Dairy farm sold milk in gallon jars with wax paper under the lid to seal. Honor system, walk in and put your money in a jar, open the fridge and take your milk. It was right out of the cow and the best. Nowadays 2-3 gallons a week, wife drinks more, she'll pour a glass and drink it straight several times a day.

Love milk and always have. We generally make one major grocery shopping run a month and another around mid-month to pick up a few incidentals we ran out of or forgot to get on our first trip. I always pick up three or four gallons of whole milk on both runs. No kind of drink tastes even close to as good to me as a tall glass of real cold whole milk.

An old favorite of mine is ham and Swiss cheese on French bread with a pint of cold 'Half and Half' (10 - 15% fat).
Posted By: JamesJr Re: Drink Milk? - 06/27/19
I grew up on a farm that had a small herd of dairy cows, and of course we drank the raw, straight from the cow. I hated it as a kid, and as I got older, I could only drink it as chocolate milk. I'd say that I've not had a glass of plain milk in close to 50 years, and chocolate milk in 40. Aside from milk used in cooking or ice cream, that's the only way I care for it.

Blind, find you some raw milk, it hasn't had the lactase boiled out of it from the commercial dairy factories, lactase gives you a way to digest the lactose.

Yep. Lots of Lactose intolerant people find they can drink raw milk.

PS I'm not lactose intolerant, but I drink raw milk exclusively. For me, it's been the cure for my seasonal hay fever. All my life, I suffered terribly from two long hay fever seasons, and antihistamines had been a regular part of my life from early childhood till I gave up pasteurized milk over a decade ago. Raw milk has all the digestive enzymes intact, so those proteins get properly digested. When you drink pasteurized milk, those proteins don't get properly digested, due to the digestive enzymes having been destroyed by pasteurization, and for many people this heightens their sensitivity to environmental allergens due to their immune response having been ramped up from the inadequately digested milk proteins.

After switching to raw milk over a decade ago, suddenly my hay fever vanished, and suddenly I had no need for antihistamines, which I used to (from childhood) have to take daily through two long hay fever seasons annually. I wasn't expecting this, since I hadn't heard anything about the connection, but was very pleasantly surprised by the discovery when it all stopped. Later, I researched it, and discovered that science also supports it, having made the connection between drinking raw milk and the absence of hay fever in children living on farms where fresh raw milk is available.

Dang right TRH, all kinds of hidden benefits to foods that are left the hell alone, same/same with raw honey.
