So I realized today how unusual my family dynamic is, but i truly think a good thing.
I was trying to get ahold of my dad and my wife's uncle, who has played a father figure in her life, walked her down the isle, etc.
answered my dads phone. I came to the realization that my dad and my "father-in-law" have become very close friends. they are both retired
and with each other 3-4 days of the week, this has been going on now for a few years now. They are both men i respect but they come from
very different walks of life, one running a large company and the other a truck driver but view politics and morals on the same level.
My dad and i have always had a close relationship, and did things just the two of us, this year we will have another guy in hunting party, and frankly I couldn't be happier.
My dad said, "figured you wouldn't care but i asked your FIL to hunt with us this year"

my ex-wife's father and my dad couldn't stand each other, I was hoping for civility, with my family and my in-laws, I didn't expect this, but I have no complaints.

Me the wife and kids. That's it. No inlaws, cousins, nothing. Nice having your own holiday traditions, no one to argue with, or people interfering with our family.

My inlaws are either drug addicts, felons, or certifiable nut cases.

I keep the gate shut.
