Been a Maiden fan since they began. Was rough spell during the Blaze years. Kid got me a signed copy of Bruce's book for Xmas.
She is a super fan (wonder why?)
Hopefully not too hot. Outdoors, much of the lighting effects get lost. Have been avoiding the YT vids of this tour............don't want to be completely spoiled.
Like on the first BoS tour, did not know they'd play Children of the Damned. That was VERY cool.
That show was scalper.........paid 350 a ticket, was my Xmas or BD present that year (I would not have paid that much- kid did...........but I paid her back). Gesture was sweet enough.
Anyway...............that show, opener was Harris's kids band. Yawn. The Maiden show however, was fantastic.
Worth the 4 hr drive one way and ticket cost.
The following year we saw em at an outdoor venue, Ghost opened (kid liked em) and the Maiden show's sound was off, the venue sucked angle wise for viewing and it was a credit card deal............we only paid about 150 a ticket. Farther back but not bad (compared to prev show).
I thought it sucked.
Eh, I think I paid 35 bucks and was front row in 99 at small venue. That was friggin awesome.
Got tix for next month's show. Kid and I went to both Book of Souls tours.
Trooper Ale is pretty good chit too.
I took my oldest daughter. She seemed a bit apprehensive but then they opened with Aces High and had a life size Spitfire with spinning prop over the stage.
I saw them years ago in San Jose on the Somewhere In Time tour. Openers were Tesla and Y&T I think š¤. Things were a bit fuzzy back then ... I have seen them a lot. The good old days.
I was a fan way back in HS, but never had any money to travel to see em. Think if I had seen the '85 World Slavery Tour and Type O Negatives "October Rust" show I could die a happy man.
'99 show was hot as hell, indoors (100 outside, maybe hotter).........and on the way home my truck had carb issues.........so I pulled over and ripped it open..............Gary Indiana. Had my 629 laying on top of the air breather cover.
Think that big Blazer was a neon rebel flag..............nobody was around LOL
The 2005 "Early Years" at Ozzfest..............was good, had a bunch of friends show up, we took the lawn. I had been there since it opened, watched all of 2nd stage..................and partied way too hard. Like blasted by 10 am.............yet I remember everything and didn't miss a band.
Did sleep a bit during the downtime before main stage fired up. Brutal heat.
Wore camo shorts and a 4x4 tee of light grey. All the cool kids in dark pants/shirts were in the recovery tents w fans, spritzers and even oxygen. Missed everything they did.,
I'm part Mediterranean, so don't burn easy.
But that show, I got roasted. My ears peeled a couple days later, like bacon. And then again.
Her hair is longer now, not quite 80's big hair but close. I dunno if she will cut it all off before the show or not.
She should tease it out and just go old school for the hell of it. She would too, she doesn't give a chit what other people think. Hell she dressed up as Negan and won the costume and trivia at a bar's TWD game night.
Her bud and her also dressed as Harry Potter characters at the last film.
She a lot of fun, we have a good time at Maiden.
Lots of parents w kids there at BoS.
I got pissed off bow season last yr and cut my hair. Itd be past my ass if I hadn't. Really honked the kid off.
I saw them back in the very early 80's when they were an opening act for the Scorpions and have been a fan ever since, unfortunately not many of the well known bands come to Alaska. Not many bands can claim that their lead singer flies them and their equipment to all their gigs either.
I'd also like to see Metallica before they are too old to play, been a fan since 86 and have never seen them live.
Closing on a house around then but will try and make some time. One of my favorite things to do is find other guy's fishing spots.
Cool to hear you will be closing..congratulations.
Gotta get some mountain time in before the fires start this year, boats are outta the water and put away here, be heading NW Friday or Saturday...
Reality will probably bring me closer to mid September before I make it to Miami, I'll just be returning to Florida near the end of August. The condo I have gained access to belongs to a friend and is just sitting there empty, he seldom gets there anymore. Told me to use it whenever I wanted. I'll be hitting those canals closer to town, I'll bring my little tunnel hull, with the 20 hp Honda, it should do the trick...
BTW, I absolutely fuggin detest the Maiden song "Run to the Hills". Thats my official get super honked off, go piss and get beer time at a concert. Fuggin HATE HATE HATE that song.
My azzhole buddies will leave me VMs with that damn thing. Bastards.
Murray is smooth and bluesy, Smith is wickedly technical. Harris is nothing crazy bass wise..........but all the songs are long and exercises in brutality. Think marathon runner. And hes hittin em a lot more than people think, 2 fingers of death.
Gers ..........might be great. I dunno, Showmanship is there, but don't care for it. Have always been a Smith fan. Grew to like Murray more. McBrain................I'm not into drums really. My kid says Burr had more soul.
I still blast the old DiAnno stuff.
Should break out the "Ed Hunter" video game and play that tonight. On their website they had another "Donkey Kong" type of game.
Plus there's the "Legacy of the Beast" computer/phone game. My kids likes it.
Agreed, they get written off by many just because they are a "heavy metal" band, and therefore assumed to be just loud and untalented. The whole band is quite talented, and Bruce's vocal's are great.
Bruce's voice is different. Maybe an acquired taste. He was the air raid siren for sure.
When he split after Fear of the Dark...........Maiden was in a rough way. Blaze sucked.
I mentioned to my guitar bud that they should have gotten RJD.
He just looked at me and said "that would have been mighty".
RJD could have done all of Dianno and Dickensons stuff.
Fear of the Dark.............knowing that Bruce left after that, listening to that song (last song on album)..........makes it pretty sad.
But then he came back in '99...........Ed Hunter.
First row. Pretty bad ass.
Think before the 2nd Book of Souls show the small "pit".............before declaring it a credit card deal (no scalping) they wanted 15 for a ticket. Not 15 hundred either.
I know some folks paid 1500 for the floor at Book of Souls 1. If people kept their fuggin phones down, center and around 10 back...............figure it;'d have been worth a K.
But not more than that.
I met some guys that do like 3 shows in a row, diff states.............and spend a ton of money. Good for them
Tix for this coming show are on aisle, left of center section.Lower pavillion but near the back. Not bad for 150. Not great, would have been OK if 10 closer.
Cant remember, but think Ed Hunter in 99 was special deal (before FC priority days)...........and I scored mine at 1 or 2 am, off computer. Was a bit of hassle. 35 bucks a pop.
Sold out of shirt I wanted, so didn't buy any. Left more money for beer.
I really like the UFO song before the show...........sets the mood perfectly. Plus the Monty Python at the end. Traffic sucks, might as well hang back and sing along.
Paul DiAnno is done. Do not look up recent videos..............beyond pathetic. This the last thing he did that gave a hint of who he used to be. Crappy video too, so posted just the one of song. Dude fugged up big time.
Love maiden to death..he he.. first show was 1988, last was Book of souls.
BUT! I really wish they would ditch all the old standards...i never need to hear NoB, Iron Maiden, running free, hallowed, trooper, hills, etc etc live again.
The catalog is cast and good, but underplayed to a nostalgic crowd.
How about:
Prowler Drifter Stranger in a strange land Alexander the Great (only in a dream) Sanctuary Purgatory Killers Brighter than 1000suns Montseguer Starblind(!) Out of the silent planet Phantom of the opera Dream of Mirrors The great unknown. Paschendale
And maybe some Bruce solo stuff for encores:
Tyranny of souls Chemical wedding The road to hell
So pissed I missed it last night. Wound up filling in on a charter and didnāt get back til late last night. Gave the tix to my older boy (stepson), who told me he ādidnāt get why they are so great, they didnāt even have backup dancers.ā Fugging stupid kids. I thought I had done a better job teaching him right from wrong, but I guess heās still a tard. I could have actually even run into Flave if I had gone. Damn.
When my son was growing up he did what alot of kids do now, (or at least what I let him do),figure out what type(s) of music they like for themselves. He grew up around hearing alot of what I like and liked alot of it but I never played a whole lot of heavy metal or hard rock around him just some here and there. He went to start working and living on his own and a couple of years later came home for a visit and wanted to really go through my record collection so he did and was really excited when he found my Maiden records. Guess he never thought I was "cool" like that. Long story short, he's seen them a couple of times now and when we get together we talk rock and heavy metal among other things. He's a metal head Iron Maiden fan and also a combat medic in the US Army. Great young man and I'm glad he has good taste in rock.
BTW, I absolutely fuggin detest the Maiden song "Run to the Hills". Thats my official get super honked off, go piss and get beer time at a concert. Fuggin HATE HATE HATE that song.
My azzhole buddies will leave me VMs with that damn thing. Bastards.
they still have that guy on stilts in that skull suit? i saw them in the early 80's with megadeth and had never heard of them. can't say as i remember much but i'm pretty sure it didn't suck.
I'm a country red neck that lived through the 80's and 90's honkey tonks with Alan Jackson, Clint Black, George Strait, Reba and Patty Loveless but I do listen to some metal. Metallica has some good stuff, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Godsmack, and on the lighter hair metal platform, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Ratt, etc.
I liked Bruces " silver wings".....the intro is classic metal scream of guitar. Fuggin chit makes me go silly. Liked most of " Accident of Birth" album too.
Anyone seen Vince Neal lately, he looks worse than Val Kilmer.
I feel sorrow for Vince , his little daughter was dying of some rare illness , he had been with her in the hospital room for weeks . His friends badgered him into getting out and going to lunch with them for a little break and his daughter passed away while he was gone . He cried and said he'd never forgive himself for leaving her at the hospital alone .
Added edit ; Vince Neil's Struggle to Cope With Daughter Skylar's Death. When Vince Neil's daughter Skylar died of cancer after months of pain at the age of four in August 1995 .
For the sick fuggs there's the Genitorturers. David Vincent was married to Gen. Not anymore. On the Flesh is the Law tour he played an upright bass for a bit......dude had some skills
Just left Kumas after Trooper Ale and an Iron Maiden burger. Arcade bar to play Maiden pinball and then head over to the show
Update:
We were maybe 30 yards from the stage. Close enough to feel the heat or some pyro at times.
Murray more animated than I've ever seen. Bruce was a swashbuckler. Harris a friggin locomotive. The band had fun, high energy through the end. Entertaining show, w a few cool little surprises.
Was not just a rehash of old tunes.
But this was my 7th time w Maiden and I must confess, proly my last. Neat, but not for the price. Back issues, thought about skipping it, but woke up in better shape than last two days. Stood the whole time, decent view. But by half way pain was enough of a detraction.
Cool temp, so was comfy in that regard. Kid had a blast so was worth it just for that. Loud, had earplugs. Maybe less direct if more center in lower pavillion. We off to the side some.
Must say Deer Creek (I still call it that) was way nicer than Chicago's Hollywood Casino amp. That place sucks azz and I won't see another show there. Think Maiden played there this go around.
Much better overall at Ruoff (formerly Deer Creek).
I forgot to take my pocket knife off, was long walk back to car. Ditched it in leaves before going in. Was there when we left
Didn't whoop it up, pretty low key. Getting too old for it I guess.
I got lawn tickets at Ruoff with a good buddy of mine. Iād never seen Maiden but ever since Petty died I have been getting on these ābucket list bandsā.
I really enjoyed the show a lot. Being their legacy tour they played their greatest hits from 44 yrs & 39 albums. Theyāre still really animated and Iāll be really happy if I have that sort of endurance when Iām in my mid- to late-60s!
Awesome show highly recommend it. Buy yer merch on Amazon beforehand... $50 t-shirts & $100 hoodies arenāt my thing...
Thanks again Deflave the 4-hours-each-way was totally worth it!
Ruoff, FC club tix. Not too bad for the $. No friggin' way I'd have doubled up and seen em at Hollywood Casino Amp. Did in 2017 and the shallow angle sucked.
Ruoff much better.
Looked like lawn was packed, think max cap around 30K. Good show.
Might spring for pit next time. Big money, but damn.................front row at Aragon in '99 for 35 bucks is hard to shake
Am showed out after Maiden, but if my machine at work is down might burn a vac day and run to Lafayette to see "Pale Horse Named Death". Of course the witch informs me the dryer has no heat. Fix that tomorrow LOL
Maiden after Pink Floyd is one of the most overrated bands out there. It must be the cool sounding name I dunno they have only 2 decent songs. Give me Metallica or some sabbath. Thumbs down for maiden

iMHO Metallica hasnt been worth a chit since the Black album... Much prefer Maiden
HUGE +1!!!!!
On the other hand if I coulda seen em And Justice for all or before id likely look back on it as one of the greatest musical experiences of my life to this day.
Theyāre old and washed up now and a shadow of their former selves.
I used to have a decent music collection. But a couple yrs back dumped most of it.
Seems as though i am usually playing these five:
Iron Maiden Type O Negative Mortiis Theatre of Tragedy The Birthday Massacre
I have come to literally love and listen regularly to about every musical genre from classical to speed metal; jazz, old country, blue grass, punk... pretty much everything but modern (f@g) country, modern pop, and rap.

pink floyd is the king...
Alan Parsons was a big reason for Pink Floyd's sound. He started doing his own thing later. It's excellent.
