Outstanding, Rocky! Glad to put a face with the name and proud to have made your acquaintance here on the fire.
Cool

That is very neat!
Awww, shucks.

That's part of our local PBS stations's "Summer of Space" series (cripes that's a lots of esses!)

Anyway, I think Pugs posted a link to that earlier. I give credit to them, they made what I thought was a so-so interview by me into something quite nice.

One question they asked me was about the fact that we haven't been back to the moon for 50 years. I answered that the significant thing is not that we haven't gone back, it's that no other nation has been able to go at all. The only footprints there are ours.
Outstanding!! I had no idea, Rocky.

That is really, really cool!

Thank you for a life well served!

And again for your comments here on the Fire.
Nice👍

Pilots like Rocky when they step onto your commercial Airliners always put me at ease.

And yes by that I mean older White Dudes that most likely were ex-Military pilots.

I like "that voice" ! Great that it was yours.

A star among us.

Well done, sir.
i doubt he will plug them himself, so i will. READ HIS BOOKS. About his experiences in vietnam or better said s.e. asia.
I have given them to some people suffering from various service connected issues, and they have helped.
When i got both of them, they were not put down until i had read both of them. flying isn't the only thing, just one of many, he has done well.

I met Rocky in Ogden and we walked through the Browning museum and talked of history and the Campfire. Rocky is an extremely courteous gentleman and I hope to fish with him sometime. While talking about his past, someone overheard the conversation and was impressed to find that Rocky was the voice for Cape Canaveral during many of the manned space launches during the space race with Russia.

He consented and gave the countdown verbatim. They were quite impressed but not affected whatsoever at my presence, and that still stings a bit...

We have many amazing people among us here on the fire.

I will second this about Rocky's books. They are OUTSTANDING!

I love the interview too.
That’s pretty cool. It’s good to associate a voice and a name with the campfire moniker.
300 Combat missions in Vietnam, Not only is Rocky a gentleman but he's a true badass, and I have his Autograph!

Well, socialism really hasn't been implemented properly grin
This deserved its own thread !

Pugs posted it in another thread and I was surprised it just got buried.

I thought he was hella cool before this 🤷🏻‍♂️ But I’d love to hear his stories.

Shrap it’s ok, someday those folks are gonna find out who was with Rocky and despair they didn’t get your autograph too 😂

That's OK, one day those folks will feel the same way that shop keeper felt after he found out it really was JM Browning he kick out of his store............
Now I get your earlier reference to Patrick AFB. Dad was stationed there '65-'70 and south Brevard was my hometown for quite a few years.
Holy Crap Rocky, I've always been fascinated by your posts. Being a space and aviation junkie myself, I read every one of them, but I didn't realize you were in so deep. That's just awesome!

Nearsightedness and being mathematically retarded kept me from making aviation a career. I've alway wanted to be a part of it. You all are heros to me.

Guy's, I've met Rocky on a few occasions. He's the real deal. Vast shooting, reloading and fishing knowledge. He has published many articles, and written two books.
When you're with him, he listens to you like a priest at confession. Just a pleasure to be around. I'm glad that I can call him my "friend".

So, as Paul Harvey would say, "Now you know the rest of the story".

Hat's off to you Rocky. And next time, it's my turn to buy !

Thanks for posting !!

Been reading about him, he is a tough guy fir sure.
I thought this was common knowledge on the fire, from past posts and all. I’ve watched many old launches just to catch Rocky’s countdown. There’s a reason why he always posts a heads up about all the current launches. Pretty cool stuff from a pretty cool guy!
I have met Rocky, and He is the real deal. Read His books, you will not be disappointed. miles

Outstanding Rocky,

My son still keeps your signed books in his "favorites" collection.
