So i gave my 5 year old 10 pieces of candy corn he found in a bag in the cupboard, about 20 minutes later I see him in the back yard with my good hammer digging a trench with the calw, my first response was to yell at him but i stopped and asked what he was doing.

The little dude was planting candy corn to grow more candy corn. I told him to carry on.

I couldn't rebuttal his thought process.

Investing wisely I would say.

Ad a little kid I lived with my grandparents for a short time. One of my uncles was working in the front yard one afternoon and I was riding my bike (with training wheels--- I was four) up and down the sidewalk. I had a pinwheel toy clamped to my handle bars, which was a cool and hot toy in 1959. He stopped me and told me that if he planted it in the front yard a tree would grow and it would have those things all over it. It was a no-brainer in my young mind.

I watched that spot for months. I still remember exactly where it's buried.

I like that idea! Sneak out there, plant some real corn seeds.

Smart Kid! Planning ahead for a big crop of candy corn.
Dad used to bitch about finding my .223 brass in the Cotton field when I was planting. I’d see a hog or coyote and open up on them with the AR-15. He asked one day why I never stopped and pick up my brass. Told him I was no tilling in a new crop. That shut him up. His only response was “smart ass” 🤠

Excellent dad.

Pay close attention when he hears about money growing on trees.

same boy planted a row of Jelly beans to grow lollipops at Easter, about a week latter dad stuck in a variety of lolli's where the beans were planted, I might have created a farmer.

Same kids that accept nickels as opposed to dimes. Genius? Nope.

My younger sister pulled younger brother's chain once when we were actually planting a garden. After he finished covering two long rows of beans, she asked if he had put all the seed in right side up. He did the forehead slap and started to uncover a row before she let him off the hook.

I’d say he’s got a bright future
I have told this story before, but it still makes me grin each time I relate it.

My son and daughter were about five and four. And I was out in the garden early one spring day where I had just finished back filling over a row of seed spuds.

The kids got up about 8:00 AM and came out to help. I handed them a bag of M&Ms and let them plant them down the row on top of the spuds.

Several weeks later, when the potato plants were about a foot tall and bushed out well, I scattered a bag of M&M" fun size packs under the foliage. And told the kids their "M"s were ready for harvest.

They gleefully set to filling a leftover Easter basket with M&M packs. My five year old son picked up about four or five packets, then stopped and slowly turned to look at his Mom and I.

"And just how did they get into the paper packets?"

Momma and I could hardly contain our laughter.

Yeah he's smart but you need to slap him in the back of the head for using a hammer instead of a hoe.

Like someone else said you need to sneak out there and plant corn seeds in the trench.

Any kid who can defer gratification like that is the next Warren Buffet.

This. In spades.

That kid should go far in life.

The proof. The marshmallow experiment.
