Hell, back when I was a kid I could blow dust off the ground with zero airspeed. It was easy....not even scary. I've heard that real pilots that fly jets have big balls.

And for what?

Sheesh.

Remember those Argentinian A-4 pilots that flew to their deaths in the Falklands fight? Some of those South Americans have big heuvos.

Reminds me of our local crop dusters...holy cow those guys can fly... If we ever need combat pilots. There is a training ground here in the corn fields...

Must have been the Chinese pilots, Ho Lee [bleep] and We Tu Lo.

THAT'S no joke !!!

Mechanic at the local muni airport was working on a duster plane one day when I wandered in. I knew the pilot and had seen him work. Mechanic said he had pulled limbs out of the underpinnings of that plane LOTS of times.

A few days later, the pilot was in the hangar. Said I was more than welcome to ride along with him any time I wanted. Only hitch was.........it was a one place plane........as far as actual SEATS went. But there was a hatch in the nose I could ride in........open air. Yeah..........thanks, but no thanks. 😬

My high school summer job was mixing and loading for spray planes. Our pilots were both Apache helicopter pilots in the idaho air guard.

I had a 500 gallon fuel tank behind the cab on an old 1 ton flat bed I drove when we traveled. The tank stuck up just above the cab and had several black tire marks on it from them giving me what they called a wake up call.

Nothing like doing 60 down the highway and having a turbine superwing thrush sneak up and tap its wheels on you as it goes by at about 130. The worst was when they came at you head on and did it. I saw a tough old bull rider quit and hitch hike home the first time they did it to him.

They took me up in one one day. Not comfortable at all squeezing 2 guys in that plane but still the one of the most exciting things I ever did. They'd set their helmet on the floor next to the seat and put a pillow on it to sort of make the seat wider. They always flew the young flagger girls back with them so somehow I talked them into taking me up.

We used the back of Mt. Harrisin near Albion like a skate ramp, flew under telephone lines, did several touch and goes and drug the wheels in the snake river making big rooster tails. That guy was an awesome pilot. His name was Jim Newcomb and I think he lives in McCall now if he's still around.

and there's the "old bold" line that often applies.

I have a good friend who grew up flying in Oklahoma. He spent many years as a spray plane pilot. He admits that he cut a few power lines during his career. (The cabin is protected by a taught cable tied to the top of the rudder which is there specifically to cut power lines if a pilot makes an error and passes under one with a bit too much elevation.)

He told us about one day spraying an alfalfa field with several planes in formation. He said the owner of the business was flagging for the pilots, and kept signalling for the planes to fly lower, and lower.

He said that when he landed, his wheels were covered in green, from running in the alfalfa.
