Anyone else have their Ram 1500 go into 4th gear and light up the check engine light? Mine did this Friday afternoon, stopped by NAPA and put a code reader on it and it came back with a P0750 code, solenoid A failure, valve body, wiring or possible contaminated transmission fluid. Changed the fluid and filters and cleaned out the solenoid on Saturday but the issue is still there so I ordered a new shift solenoid which will be here tomorrow, crossing my fingers that it fixes it.

What year model and how many miles do you have?

I haven't heard about that before. Mine is a 2016.

I did a search online and it seems to be a common thing on these trucks, going into limp mode that is. I had never heard of it until it happened to me, transmission looked clean inside and no metal particles anywhere so i think the tranny is ok.

My boy has a 2011 1500. He hasn’t had that problem yet. He changed water pump at 100,000 miles.

Lol, remember when you changed the water pump about every 30,000 or so miles?

Update: I swapped out the shift solenoid and it looks like it has fixed the problem. If anyone ever has this issue and is somewhat mechanically inclined, you should have no issue swapping this thing out.
Nice work.

I love it when it all comes together.

Right? I'm always leary about changing parts using the code reader malfunction lists but it worked out this time.
I had a 99 Suburban that threw a similar code. Changed the solenoid, no help. Changed ALL the solenoids, same crap. Changed the wiring out, still no cigar. Sold that piece of crap...list my ass on it, but got it outa my hair.

Three out of the last automatic transmission equipped GM vehicles I have owned have developed transmission issues. I avoid them like the plague now. I have a 97 GMC for hunting these days, but it's got a manual trans. So far, so good.

My son has my old 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, and it has gone into limp mode a couple of times. The speed sensor on the driver side rear according to the diagnostic computer was the issue. We replaced it and the did not work. My son got to looking closer, and the wire was cut in half. He put a wire clamp on it, and it held until it snowed. We ended up soldering it back together and no other issues with it sense then.

Limp mode? So it's like a Toyota until you get it fixed? grin

You guys just hush up - you are scaring me. My 3500 2003 is coming up on 100K, had shavings on last transmission oil change (it's first I think) - sposed to be every 30K? or is it 15K - have to look it up again. ). Taking it back in in a day or so to see what the last 2,000 on fresh oil is showing. But then my wife and I had to relearn how to drive a stick after 20 years of autos, andboth boys learned on it. Lots of gear grinding/clashing went on, so maybe I'll get lucky. Fat chance.....

I'm skaart...... smile. My wife gets real crabby about any maintainence, much less repairs (her solution is to sell it the first time repairs are needed), but hell, she'll be in Barcelona for a week. I'm thinking while she's gone...... my $2K possible tranny ain't a patch on what she is spending playing world traveler.

What can she do? Return the tranny? Cancel my credit card? Bitch about being broken down 200 miles from a repair shop on our run to the remote cabin? It's all my fault anyway, so I'll just do what I like. smile

las, my truck has 130+k miles on it and I just changed the tranny fluid last weekend, I believe the interval for your truck is 72k.

My Dodge Ram hemi is a 2009 model and I have 167k now. It’s been a good truck but this summer the “gas cap” and the engine pic icons lit up. Dodge Service checked the sensors and said they are ok so try a new gas tank cap. I did — no change.

Service’s attitude seemed to be “its ok, just ignore them” but it seems this would be something they could check out and correct. For someone fairly obsessive-compulsive, it’s kind of bothersome. 🤔

Try cleaning the mass airflow sensor, that seems to cause the CEL to come on with a lot of these newer vehicles these days. Did you put a code reader on it?
These new vehicles are a pain in the ass to work on.

I hate it, but I'm not mechanically inclined at all. Dumb as a fence post.

While not a Dodge, our 04' Tahoe gets random CEL[sometimes solid, other times flashing], it normally goes out[actually always does].
Happens on our frequent trips to Tenn and back at about the same distance traveled each time and normally goes out the next day.
Next time in the shop it is getting the mass air sensor cleaned.
The only codes ever stored are "all cylinder mis-fire", yet never any change in fuel consumption or running.

personally, I think it's a ghost in the machine!

Check your gas cap like GDV did, if it's not tight it can turn on your CEL. These damn newer vehicles must have been built by liberals, it doesn't take much to make them whig out.

Colorado has e10 so it draws moisture. Probably not the problem, but putting it out in general. Neighbor turned me to an additive called "Guarenteed to pass" it seems to actually work on a couple cars. 20 bucks at Walmart. ymmv as usual
Some of those air flow sensors and things are finicky, have open spider web size wires and such. The codes are a starting place but we have had bad gas cause O2 sensor code, too; or failure to atomize and burn comes up as miss fire
As for being mechanical, there are so many special fittings and odd wrenches it matters little. Being computer literate helps

Do you remember having to repack the water pump?

I was just a kid and we had a neighbor with an old, old truck. I dont remember what make or model, but I helped him repack the water pump. He used a string type packing that was kinda waxy. Old truck didn't have a fuel pump. Gravity flow to the carb. Gas tank was right in front of the windshield.
