How about those lamposts here with red light cams as a model, a revenue stream for municipalities, so many little crimes, so many fines. Spit before you leave the house.

Those Hongkongese seem to have more spine than a lot of folks here in the land of the free.....

Anything installed as a tool to protect you can be turned into a weapon to persecute too. So much for the 4th Amendment that doesn't exist in China.

I feel bad for them. It is going to be very hard to rest any power from the government. That's why we need to be very careful how much power we allow our government to wield. Democrat socialist Marxists are all about power and control. Over the years we have allowed our government to gain far too much control over our lives.
Here's an excerpt from the article,

"The government has said the devices do not have any facial recognition functions – only sensors, data connectivity and cameras – and data will not be shared with third parties for the purposes of identification."

Looks like the people in Hong Kong I have a lot of determination.
Best of luck to them.
Doubtful that President Xi is going to back down

I'm hoping this bright and shining example in Hong Hong can stiffen resolve here in the battle of wills with the Empire.

If these spy lampost started being used everywhere here in America and people were complaining - there's many on this website who would say '''well just don't break the law and you won't have anything to worry about''' . The '''perfect people''' will hand the country over the commies - then become a commie themselves ''if you can't beat them - might as well join them''' .

Watch a youtube vid - american tech guys working in china , one guy walked into a street crosswalk and took a couple of steps not in the crosswalk when entering . When he got to the other side of the street waiting for the next crosswalk he got a text informing him he had broke the law and $80 had been taken [debit] from his money account . An account he was forced to open to be able to enter the communist country .
Europe is a surveillance union. They have CCTV cameras all across that continent.

There are exceptions it seems, such as the Muzzy no-go zones.

Oh, to be so ornery, so cantankerous, so prickly that no one thinks it worthwhile to mess with you.

Where have I heard that before?

My neighborhood has begged for a speed cop just a few hours a month, but cant get one. PAR told me they just work the easy ones until they get their (no quota) 25 tickets .

Wasn't following too closely this morning but overheard a story on the TV news about agencies providing doorbell/security cameras for folks (subsidized or free, can't remember the details) under the conditions that they MUST turn over the recordings when asked by the PoPo. Can't remember the jurisdiction or if there were more than one. Cops like them, especially if they can get multiple ones from the same area, different views in case the bad guy or license plate isn't visible on just one.

Of course, the free cams would NEVER be used to keep an eye on the homeowner, right? You guys believe that , dontcha?

Big Bro will provide them, free of charge.

Indoor "nanny" cam types too, just to make sure no bad guys get in your house while you're out working and contributing to the economy. wink
