It's our anniversary. Lot of life gone on, but I'm the luckiest guy alive today...

A dozen years ago we were in church on a Sunday morning either on or near our anniversary. Preacher had me stand, then told that he'd heard it was our anniversary.

He asked me, "Son, how many years is it now"?

I said, "preacher, it's been 423 years"...

He said, "Siddown boy,we both in trouble"...

Us married guys don't actually live longer- - - - -it just seems that way! Happily married for 5 years, and 5 out of 43 ain't bad! The first one was 7 years of pure hell!

Married for 37 years now... the last 6 have been heaven on earth...the previous 31, well, there were a few high spots...very few...not real high... got a brother who’s been married to the same woman 43 years...wow... another brother who’s on his 4th and she seems like a really good fit. 2nd wife still has nothing to do with me, good... first wife pizzed cause our adult sons and their kids have too many guns, like guns too much, and it’s all my fault.

We hit 35 years this year too. If I had it do over I would try to do it better. There has been a lot of learning going on, Hell, I'm still learning everyday.

We rang up 61 this summer.

A common thing in these longtime marriage threads is how much you guys appreciate your wives 😎

‘Nother thing valuable about these threads is many guys describing how awful their first marriage was. Not all women are equal.

As a schoolteacher I’ve known of lots of parents of kids, sometimes quite well. Far and away the best comment about marriage I’ve heard was from a woman going through a rocky spell in her marriage. With regards to divorce she said “I didn’t just make a promise to him, I made a promise to God”.

No wonder their kids turned out frickin’ awesome 😎

35 years ago today I was thinking the same as I think today - why buy the cow when you get the milk for free .

I didn't wake up that morning with any plans. Was just kicking around the place on a Saturdaycatching up on laundry and cooking.

I thought; Wouldn't it be good to have someone to cook and clean? Called up a gal I'd dated a couple of times and asked if she'd care to get married. She said OK, so we went to the church and looked up the preacher.

End of story.
