Anyone else struggling with Anxiety ? How do you deal with it
Posted By: Fireball2 Re: Anxiety - 09/18/19
The times we live in feed it.

Focus on the things you can be thankful for. We all take too much for granted.

Stage 3 cancer, surgery and follow-on radiation when it recurs will tend to generate a little anxiety. A good job and focusing on “right now” helps keep it in the back of the mind. .

All my life. A damn curse. I don't deal with it very well. Ruined a lot of stuff.

What do you do to cope with stress?
Posted By: Sig220 Re: Anxiety - 09/18/19
Figure out what your "triggers" are and work on those or at least find something else that will distract you from them.

For instance, if claustrophobia is a trigger, always find you an aisle seat in concert venues and leave before the crowd does. You can also occupy yourself by reading or music for instance if flying but get a aisle seat!

Found out recently I don't care for heights anymore....must be a function of getting older....didn't bother when I was younger or maybe it was the POS ladder I was still using, when it should have been melted down long ago?

Not these days,....but back long ago when I was working my life away in that Japanese factory I'd get anxious about it every now and then.

I warded it off with poetry. (It's not a recommendation. I was fairly buzzed when I wrote it long, long ago)

Yeah, Bristoe took a bite of the triple A,
Then he went into the bedroom to slam the hay,
He needs a night's sleep and there is no sorrow,
If he doesn't feel the need to awake tomorrow.

Workin' night shift since he was a lad,
Passin' on the world that the rest has had,
Grinnin' at you folks and flippin' the bird,
Pretending that he never was a part of the herd.

Yeah, he gonna hit the bottle like a workin' class pawn,
Starin' at the ceilin' 'till the break of dawn,
Wondrin' how it ever got to be this way,
That to get a night's sleep he needs the Triple A.

Monday looms tight with it's new beginnin',
Crankin' on the mill and continue the sinnin',
Keepin' up the energy however he can,
With Alcohol, Ambien, and Ativan.

The "Triple A".

I will tell you.

If you wake with fear in the night with the feeling of evil near, say "Get the behind me, satan, the Kingdom of Heaven is within me.

For other cases, pick up the Bible and open to any page in the New Testaments (and probably the Old) and start reading.

Do at least one thing a day that needs done. My health was so bad at times recently I felt like everything was closing in on me because I couldn't do what I used to. Then I decided to accept my health for what it is but make sure I do at least 1 thing a day that needs done. Sounds like a low bar I know but just getting one thing a day off your plate helps. In a month you can cross 30 things off a to do list.

I never did, but after the stroke I have a lot of it. It starts when I can’t find the words to say what I want to say. Then it just piles on from there.
Posted By: nighthawk Re: Anxiety - 09/18/19
Remind myself that I can't do anything about the past and I have almost no control over the future. Then focus on the next thing to be done. Easier said than accepted of course, sometimes it's a struggle. Particularly when it seems that nothing is going smoothly and you couldn't even buy a break.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Anxiety - 09/18/19
Seriously?

Ok...

Roll up a big ol fat doobie, and go bush hog about 15-20 acres of brambles n briars

Very satisfying, you'll work out all types of chit in your life amd you'l accomplish a full day's work with no concept of time.

Some people deal with it better than others, focus on the good things in your life. Fuuck the rest. I didn’t learn until I was about 50 that the only person that can make me happy , is me. Things became much easier, I was happy, but didn’t realize it. I’m 66, never a health issue, if it goes to hell today it’s OK, cause I’ve had all I could ever ask for. No, I haven’t been rich in money. I don’t think money would make me happy, but I’ve been rich in family and friends. I have many I could call, they would drop everything and come running. That means more to me than any amount of money. They know I would do the same.

Posted By: mjbgalt Re: Anxiety - 09/18/19
It's not a conscious thing we worry about. It's an inner thing that clamps down on your lungs and causes a ton of stress out of the blue and gives you tunnel vision and inability to think clearly. You have the fight or flight but No reason for it. And sometimes can't turn it off all day.

Yes I have it and It's a bitch.

Never really. I ran what should have been a very stressful career but just did it. My wife was always amazed that I came home every day without a mention of work.

Same here. Anxiety makes everything seem worse than it is. For me I want to anticipate the worst possible outcome for everything. Have to remind myself how absurd that is. Have since I was a child. Seems to run in the family. Mom would get calls from Gramma about some horrible premonition she had and Gramma just had to check..

Work stress was never a problem, I seem to thrive on it. I enjoy wrestling with and overcoming a challenge. It's all the problems that exist only in my mind that make bad stress. The way my head works uncertainty is difficult to deal with. And that's where I want to dwell on bad outcomes no matter how unlikely.

Good advice is easier to give than to live, but taking a day at a time as Jesus taught is good.

Do you know how incredibly difficult that can be? That and giving your worries to Jesus and accepting whatever comes as in your best interest even though you can't see it. Good advice though.

I used to have a lot of anxiety on sundays in anticipation of the upcoming work week. Going into the office and going thru emails, making a to do list and knocking a few things out to get ahead helped immensely. If I could do that early Sunday morning all the better because I felt much better the rest of the day

I had a doctor take me off Lunesta and put me on clonzepam, BAD Deal, I took that crap for about 8 years and then anxiety hit, I had to get off that med, it took 3 years with lots of anxiety. now I am back to normal, my body had to do a reset.

after all that I still get a little nervous, so I started HempWorks CBD oil and I now have NO anxiety. $97.00 a bottle, it lasts me 6 weeks per bottle. YMMV

8 drops under your tongue, hold it there at least 60 seconds, then no food or water for 30 min, do that morning and night.

So much wisdom in this simple post. Exercise and exercise vigorously. It is mind clearing. You don't have to be in shape to get the benefit. Just challenge your body. Find positive people who make you happy and make you laugh. Hang out with them. If life doesn't give you the opportunity to hang out with many people, then find laughter and positivity somewhere. The world is so full of schidt-slinging and "the sky is falling" crap, it can pollute your mind. Identify your stressors. Change things where you can. Work on accepting the things you can't change. The more of this you do, the easier sleep becomes.

Hunting alone or with a good friend, with my 3 springer spainels, keeps the stress level near zero.

My anxiety was finally diagnosed as PTSD from Viet Nam. I let it keep me from doing a lot of things I enjoyed , but mostly I could not stay overnight anywhere but home.
A civilian doctor did not believe in PTSD at the time (late 70's) but wanted me to try an antidepressant for anxiety. To me all anti-depressants were just designer drugs. Mostly for women!
What he prescribed for me was Paxil (Paroxetine) , it worked , but not completely. As a back up, I was to use Ativan which also helped.
I am also in the VA system, and they won't prescribe the Ativan anymore, but therapy has helped. I now can stay overnight in places I have never been without my Ativan back up, but am still on Paroxetine. Oh, by the way those if you that think I am probably drawing disability from the VA, I am not.
I agree with those of you that it is how you cope with problems is the answer to overcoming anxiety. Some things that I can't overcome is flying, sudden noises, and I have claustrophobia.
I suggest that don't be afraid of trying an anti-depressant. I have no negative effects from it! Also consider counseling, It may work.
Thanks for listening to my anxiety problems,

Ken
