Most everyone has a ATV now. I have one, sold my jeep in February to my son in law, but bought it back last week. He ran across a great deal on another wrecker for his business. He needed cash, so I bought it back. He put new seats, overhauled the engine, and a new soft top. I sold it for 3000, bought it back for 5000. I thought I did great. All that work for 2000.00. I took it to the deer lease last weekend.

Anyone else still have a jeep for hunting??
Yes,I sort of do. I drive a 4dr one for daily driver and lots of hunting. I have owned 13 over the years and can not see myself without one. I use a small trailer to haul game out and other things.I do not worry about scratches or dents, these things happen
1945 Willys MB was my father's hunting rig. It's not as big as some of the side by side I've seen, and I think it gets around better.

Until a week ago, I had a hunting heap.... smile
I have a 1975 Toyota Land Cruiser with a soft top.
No pics but a 79 Toyota Land Cruiser in the driveway.
I’ve had 6 off the road only jeeps. If I was doing it all over it would be a mule or ranger. Hasbeen
I had one. I went to an atv in 1992. Still using atvs. Sometimes I think about a ranger or some similar type but I always end up
thinking a ranger creates more problems than it solves.
I am fascinated by those who think spending 10-15-20k on an ATV is preferable to spending the same on a hunting Jeep or a used pickup or what have you. The latter options seem much more useable, certainly in this climate than the ATV's. What's the attraction there? Im interested to learn.
We think alike.

A Jeep could go about anywhere I need to drive.
Doesn't usually need a trailer.
And can be used as on road transport.
I still have my '73 cj5 that I used to hunt out of. I quit useing it when bought my '87 toyota 4x4 ext cab. It is a lot warmer in the winter.

I want a Mahindra Roxor in the worst way, but it’ll never get the use my atv does for hunting. I use them in the woods. A Jeep couldn’t fit down many of the trails I use. A Jeep/truck would also rut up our muddy roads in the wintertime in a way that simply isn’t workable.

It is a crazy amount to spend on an ATV and I don't have one. However, I've used a bunch of them and no pickup, jeep, or whatever, can cover the country as fast or as nice as a nice SxS or 4 wheeler. We have roads here that take all day in a pickup or suburban, etc. And take 25% of the time to get around in a buggy. Mud and snow that forces you to chain up your pickup no big deal in a atv. Snow drifts slap on the tracks. Which is more money I get it. But they have a use even if it does cost a bunch.
I have a 1991 YJ gets me most anywhere I need to go, and didn't cost $15,000 and don't require a truck and trailer, another $30,000. So looks like I'm ahead $45,000.00
Yep, still using my 1964 Willys CJ5.

'99 TJ Sport, bought it new and just hit 200k. Doesnt use a drop of oil.
This rig has been down about every logging trail in norther Mn. Many hunts in North and South Dakota, Montana and Idaho.
I see no need for a SxS. A good four wheeler is nice to have though.

Hunting dog approved.

We have a POS CJ with the Buick V-6 and 3 speed tranny. We also have a Samarui that is just great. I personally use my 4wd 4dr Duramax as the oil company fixed our roads and 4wd ain't needed now.,
89 nissan pathfinder

Chopped top, sans doors

Run it almost every day

I switched from low end ATV to SXS back in 08[?]
Yamaha Rhino 660 under $9K new.
Hip started giving me trouble anytime I rode the ATV.
I use the Rhino near daily on my little 75 acre plot-o-Appalachian mtn land.
I ride it in places that I'd not want my street legal vehicles to go.
It's no wider than many of todays ATV's, has bucket seats and a steering wheel along with a bed for the dog or firewood.
We still have a 47 Willis my brother bought new. I have used it for hunting, but not like you are talking.
Wish I could get my dogs to ride in the pathfinder like civilized dogbeings.

They see a squirrel while we're doing 20mph through our logging roads and they deploy out over the side like underwater demolition operators

I drive a 1987 Suzuki Samurai

This was my youngest daughters while she was a junior and senior in high school, and a freshman and sophomore in university.
We took it out few times hunting coyotes. But, she was pretty protective of the paint. Didn't like the desert pin stripes.
Wishing I still had something along those lines.

Would my 2009 grand Cherokee do?

No?

I was with my uncle in law with my Mother in law's truck a few weeks ago, working on fence for her, we were in her nice new 2019 Chevy 2500 duramax with every option, I walked back to the house to get something and she asked, "Did my truck fit through the gate?" I said it does now. I've never seen her move so fast lol.

Have a 99 TJ but don't use it hunting too much no more. Public land I hunt on has atv trails so I use the Honda foreman on those.

Yep, a Jeep/Samurai/whatever else is just too big and heavy to hang with a SxS. Sure they are fine on a trail but off-trail it's absolutely no contest.

I have both a SxS and a four wheeler and prefer the wheeler for true off-roading. Now if it's colder than hell, the heater and full cab on the SxS is the chit.....

Rode with some others in theirs - good ones - but never had a Jeep. But, a 1972 Chev Blazer has been my hunting 4x4 for 35 years. No hunting with an ATV.

1952 M38. My parents live up on top of the Uncompahgre Plateau from May-Nov, so my dad drives it practically everyday around the place. He got it painted in Navy CB colors with his CAG and Squadron number on it from his time in Korea serving on a carrier--hysterical......

Those small jeeps will do a lot of the things an ATV can, but not everything. It has been able to retrieve all but a few elk we've killed up there the past 30 years.
Drove my Dad's 61 CJ5 for many years as a kid, hunting, fishing, whatever and wherever we needed to go. Now I use his 83 CJ5 to do all of my hunting. Have used that jeep since 1989 and it is still going strong. We did break an axle this past summer, so had those replaced. I'd rather walk a bit further and be comfortable in the vehicle, than freeze every morning with an open cab in a wheeler or Side by side.
Owned Jeeps before. If I had enough land would buy a Roxor. But as it is now neither a Jeep or Roxor can get into the areas on our property that our ATV can. I would like a 2 seater UTV with a small bed, it would get a good deal of use here. But it wouldn’t be as good as the ATV for getting into right spots.
Not a jeep but we don't use ATV in TX. We do use em here in AK but we go places a jeep can't get....
I use my legs and son of a do they hurt
My son has a 4 door 2015 Wrangler, Rubicon I believe. We drive up to Maine and run the backroads with no issues. Where we hunt the paper companies roads are wide and my F250 super duty diesel has no issues either.
I use a 98 TJ sport 4cyl for hunting. {coyote mostly} I cant use it on a lot of the T-Trails in the forests, if I'm hunting big game, its better to walk those trails anyway. now for goin fast through some terrain my VW based sand rail will get any wear it can go faster than almost anything else and I'm wanting a midsized dirt bike because the t-trails I want to go on wouldn't be 4 wheeler friendly any way {your mileage may vary]

I should clarify that I use the ATV/SxS for work. Was commenting on their use in that regard.
2002 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 2" lift, 265/65R18 Cooper Discoverer AT3s, ARB lockers, and a 4.11/1 rear differential.

Not a daily driver, a little noisy on pavement, and the gas consumption runs around 10 mpg, but it has yet to fail to get me there and back despite mud and snow and washed out mining roads.
i have a yamaha grizzley 700 with p/s, full lockup on all four wheels, will go because of size just about anywhere.
i also have in various stages of decomosition a 42ford flatfender script jeep, a 44ford flatlander, a 45 willys, a 48cj2a,
and a complet m38A1 1953. Added to that is a 10/72 fj40 land cruiser.
the yota has had a bunch of stuff redone/added to it.
I also have a xterra4x4, and a 98 dodge diesel 4x4.
i would say this, having had those flatfenders out and the yota out in bad azz conditions, mud, ice, water they went where a lot of the new overweight vehicles will not go.
I remember in the yota pulling out of this canyon in axle deep mud and getting to the top and seeing all those nice new 4x4 trucks stuck. just drove around them.
Hey, one of the jeeps has a heater, the yota has two of them, thats something the grizzley does not have.
Had a 47 Willys, a great vehicle. Then a’73 Toyota Land Cruiser. That was the best go-anywhere vehicle that could still be operated on a public highway that I have ever seen. In more recent times I’ve had quads, love em. Also horses, but that’s a different song entirely. Now I make do with my Tundra...kinda big but capable and comfortable.

My son has a hunting Jeep. It’s mostly (I think) ‘70 something Jeep Cherokee (I think.) Kind of a Frankenjeep, but he’s got it tagged and operates it on the road. It’s loud and stinks and it’s kinda scary to ride in with him at highway speeds. He does very well financially, but I’m glad to see he hasn’t strayed far from his roots.
Love seeing and hearing bout these old American made Jeeps.Loved the turning radius on the ol'twitch (NOT tote roads) trails back in the woods. My favorite was the 1978 Levi CJ5 with 35's
Never ran an actual jeep but have had a few 4x4 Yotas; a 90 pickup, a 93 forerunner and an 02 Tacoma. I'd argue they'd all keep up with a jeep. Also had a 91 I think it was pathfinder it was a good rig too. Now adays I'm getting by with a 2015 awd Escape. I kid you not, I've been putting a lot of miles on lately and my pick up was costing a ton on gas so I sold it and I'll limp along this way for now. I put a hitch on it and it hauls my utility trailer and my 700 grizzly without any issue so I'm not too handicapped. The Escape itself is limited but not useless either I've had it some places that surprised a few people. Clearance sux ass tho.
Had two cj5, two xj and on second zj. This one still stock. All others lifted and were DD and deer haulers. Finally got a hitch haul and toss the deer on that. Lifted zj......high enough the hailer didnt drag when croasing stuff.

Buddy has liberty CRD. His hauler got mangled in the woods. New hauler. New lift kit
No Jeep, but a 1952 Dodge B3PW power wagon, fun SLOW old truck.

Dat's Cool!
The side by sides are nice at times, but I prefer Jeeps.

I have owned 2 '48 CJ2A's, 1 '87 CJ7, currently have a '71 CJ5, 69 CJ6 and a 2012 JKU.

Both the '71 and '69 have the Dauntless Oddfire V6, great motor.

My first and best memories of PA deer season involves the old 4 cyl Jeeps. Started hunting in 1964 first day of deer season we would be on stand in the mountains hours before season started. For the first few hours of the first day the mountain across the valley would have dozens of folks driving their old Jeep's to their hunting area, I can still hear the winding of the 4 bangers as they may their way to the top of the mountain. smile
Mine is a '98 Grand Cherokee, completely stock, my daily driver. I've been amazed at the mud, ruts and deep flooded potholes it has taken me through to get back to my hunting spots. And you just can't kill those 4.0 engines - 150,000 miles and never needs a drop of oil between changes.
When I was a kid, the roads up by our camp in Central Pa. were very rough, and Dad always had a Jeep for hunting up there. The first "batch" he had were three military surplus jeeps he bougth cheap with the thought being to make one good one out of the bunch. If memor serves me right, one was a litter carrier, one had a machine gun mount in the back, and the other was just a typical military jeep. After lots of work, they did piece one together out of the three. No heat, a canvas top, four miss matched tires, but it did it's job for many years. After that we had a CJ2A and two CJ5's. Good machines, back in the day. Today, my every day driver (Ford Explorer) is my hunting vehicle, and I've finally convinced my wife to get something with 4 WD due to our winter roads up here. We're looking at Suburbans and Expeditions.
