Got a Sightmark Wraith coming from Scheels this morning. Free shipping of course.

Dogs barking all bloody night long. Time that I help em out!

Also ordered a two stage trigger from Brownells. Geissele (sp?) on sale for 173.

Shoulda got a LaRue MBT, Jim.

You'll love night vision, though!
Posted By: sgtsmmiii Re: Night Vision - 10/04/19
Yep - you'll love night vision. Gets spendy quick, though. But, it'll seem reasonable once you start into thermal. grin

I really would like to have some “quality” night scopes, both infrared and “starlight type”. But “quality”, is above my “pay grade”! memtb

You'll be really surprised at some of the stuff going on out there at night.

I had no idea they made triggers.

I am just mildly aware of AR-15's in general.
Posted By: slumlord Re: Night Vision - 10/04/19
What type of critter do you suspect?
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Night Vision - 10/04/19
Wolves mainly.

Well, I think they are coyotes.....but the boy is convinced they are wolves.

Word on the street is that the normal daylight dying rabbit is actually coyote repellant now.

Vocalizations are becoming less effective.

Gonna try nighttime.

Critter’z is critter’z......matters not what type! grin memtb
Posted By: RiverRider Re: Night Vision - 10/04/19
Uh oh. I made the assumption the trigger was for an AR, Jim. If not, what's it for?
Posted By: OldGrayWolf Re: Night Vision - 10/04/19
Coyotes would hate an AR with an Aimpoint and a pvs14 if they knew what hit them....

Yes, sir. An old DPMS Sportical.

My gunsmith friend likes Hiperfire......but I cant afford one.

He mentioned Geissele(sp?) in passing.....so that is what I ordered.

I am terribly unaware of most things AR.

No huge error there, the Geiselle is a nice trigger. The MBT is as good, in my humble opinion, though, and is about 90 bucks less.

Check out the AR forum and ask questions when you get ideas...there are a ton of guys who can advise you well in there!
Posted By: Stormin_Norman Re: Night Vision - 10/04/19
That Sightmark Wraith looks interesting, you will have to give a rundown on how well it works. Our songdogs seem to be mia or really quiet lately, maybe the wolves ran them off. They are pretty good at keeping hidden during daylight, but normally party like rock stars after sunset.
Posted By: las Re: Night Vision - 10/04/19
Off subject, but when the dogs went out at O-dark 30 (about 7) this morning there was a big Horned owl sitting and hooting in the top of the spruce tree 20 feet in front of the stairs. I love those owl hoots, but....

This is not a good thing with an 8 lb Wiener pup..... and he seemed to know it. He stayed within a few feet of me while he lifted his leg, then headed straight back in. Fast!

Eagles and owls and hawks. Wolves, coyotes, lynx, and bears.... we live in dangerous times!

Night vision and firepower seem like a good thing to me! smile

Shssssh. . Try the woodpecker distress call. Keep the main beam above the horizon. Watch for eyes downwind. Only call when the wind is blowing toward a large downwind opening. Best to do when a sliver of new moon goes down just a bit after dark.

Ya have to have trees in order to have woodpeckers. ~grin~

Keep us posted on the results, Jim. I think night vision would be a hoot!

That will still be a good trigger. Much better than stock!

I've got a couple of those Geiselle triggers, you will like it.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Night Vision - 10/05/19
Reading up on that Larue trigger.......sounds like the best value going today!
Posted By: RiverRider Re: Night Vision - 10/05/19
I have a couple, Jim. I may not be the pickiest guy around when it comes to AR triggers, but I like them every bit as much as the three Geiselles I use in other rifles. I really like my Jard adjustable single-stage, too...great trigger, but requires VERY careful adjustments.

Looking forward to your review, once you have used it for a while.

Got it mounted this afternoon.

Very easy to get it up and running. Plenty of room on the old DPMS rifle.

Sight in was easy too. Fire a couple shots....move crosshairs over to bullet holes.

Day performance was fine.

I sat up on the hill behind my house for an hour after dinner. It was easy to get used to.

So far so good. No blood drawn tonight yet though.....

The woodpecker distress call works great on foxes for me. Only ever called in one coyote with it.
Hadel’s Govt Hunter Cottontail has always worked great for me on Coyotes

Very cool,

our nanny state Komrades in Suctomento don't allow us to have that much fun.

I have a Flir thermal. Sob is hard on the eyes. Hopefully yours isn’t
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Night Vision - 10/08/19
I would say that yes.....it is hard on the eyes.

I cant close my left eye.....maybe that would help?
Posted By: SandBilly Re: Night Vision - 10/08/19
Nope. Just the way it is.

PS, Jim, how's that setup working? Slay anything that's keeping the dogs up yet?
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Night Vision - 11/27/19
Not yet.

Turns out that there are actually more freight trains to bark at than coyotes.
Posted By: DryPowder Re: Night Vision - 11/27/19
Are you happy with it, for what it cost?

Easy 200 yards.

With fresh batteries in the illuminator 300 yards is doable.
Posted By: Valsdad Re: Night Vision - 11/27/19
Dang, I sure wish kommiefornia would let us have those things.

The rifle that is, although they may have outlawed the use of night vision too. Can't have better technology than the guys in the black SUVs you know.

As far as I know it is still Legal to have a Rifle with a Night Vision Scope on it in Communist Mexifornia.
You can not install the Infra Red Light on it . That makes it Illegal
Loop Holes ya gotta look for the Loop Holes.

Back when we had Disposable money Before Obummer took his position.
I Purchased an Aurora 8010 Day/ Night Scope. took it in the back yard and looked threw it in Complete Darkness. You could not see your hand in front of your face. Turned the scope on and could see my Girl about 50 ft away sitting on a rock. threw the scope it looked like Dusk.
I put the IR on it and I dam near Blinded my self with how bright it was.
I have taken it out to my property in Arizona (every time I go) and with the star and Moon light I can see for 1000 yards or better. and I can see lights miles away with it.

I have never looked threw another Night Vision Rifle Scope to compare it with but wow does it light thing up.
I had to sign a Waiver that I would not ship it out of the Country that was the only stipulation on the purchase.
