[Linked Image from i714.photobucket.com]

Bear alleged to be 700 lbs, no other storry with it, pic pulled from Facebook. IT certainly is a big ole bear, but I find 700 lbs hard to see.

This bear is said to be "over 700 pounds." There sure seems to be more to this one!

Your link on the bottom says, "This 700+-pound black bear was killed near Boyceville, Wisconsin when a farmer accidentally ran over it with his combine in a cornfield."

Hope the combine is okay.

That’ll leave a mark! 😜

The bear was taken to the Augusta Locker Plant to be prepared for mounting. It was there that the animal was first weighed and measured.

Field dressed, the bear weighed in at 618 pounds and measured 7 feet from head to tail.

The Schloughs were told at the locker that they could add 80 to 100 pounds, depending on the size animal, to reach an approximate actual weight.

“So we figure that bear had to weigh at least 700. We figure 700 to 720,” Phyllis said.

Different bear than the top image that isn't coming up here. I'll try to fix it...I put the second bear as a comparison.

I haven't found anything on that one but a bear that size is certainly possible.

I did find an article on the older combine bear story, apparently it was poached.

I am fully aware that they can get that big, I just think the one on top is less than 700....though still a great bear.

Here are a couple taken within a few minutes of each. Both reportedly over 700...

I've seen bear in the Boyceville area - and a local hunter's daughter got one that weighed 540+, dressed, not too far from here... More and more black bear are in this area; I usually see 2-3 every year when I'm just driving around on the bike.. Had one cross from one corn field to another across the road right in front of me about two years ago just east of Connorsville on Co. Rd V...

Two years ago, a farmer was combining corn when he ran over a bear's den in the field.. Cost him about 20 grand in repairs... eek
Glidden, WI. Controversial because they made the mistake of field dressing the bear, you're supposed to use live weight. So 727 Price Cty. bear - 665 Ashland Cty. bear = 62 pounds gut allowance. You decide. Price County is the next county south of Ashland Coounty. (IIRC Hayward claimed the biggest bear but same live/dressed controversy.)

In Pennsylvania we get some big ones but they are few and far between. 879 I think is the biggest.
Something like 10 bears over 600 pounds last year here in PA. Our regulations state that every bear gets inspected and weighed at check stations.
I personally never saw a monster in the woods. I saw some big tracks, but I doubt i ever saw anything live that was way over 300.
This coming week is early muzzleloader deer season. This is the first year that bear can be flattened the same week, with a bear and muzzy stamp. So I will be out Saturday morning before it gets to 70F at lunch time.

700 pound bears in WI are certainly rare but every few years someone seems to pop one that big.

One happy bear.

That is a big bear. I would hate to stumble on him in the dark!
Some nice bears for sure.
Lots of fun.
they get a lot bigger, but 700 is about 4X the size of the average one shot, I guess.

No they don’t, you could say they get a little bit bigger. Unless of course you are speaking of something other than black bears. You won’t find any black bears that are a lot bigger than 700.

879 pounder taken in PA this year.

Could be. I always wonder why the photos are never taken so you can really compare the size. Usually if people are in the photo they are behind the bear or in a position thats distorted. I have some pics of me behind some black bears that appear as big as most grizzlies. Biggest was just over 400 pounds. Not saying they don't exist, just saying. I read and see stories and pictures of 700 pound black bears and 200 pound wolves about every year.
Obese and *big* aren't quite the same thing in my book.

One of the biggest bears I've ever seen was not too far from you in a corn field in Roberts....that Sumbitch was scary big.
Virginia gal got it done several years ago , but bear doesn’t look to be a 600 pounder . But could be the way picture was taken .

Ditto.
