A-16, Columbia and a few other companies made "bomber hats", "trapper hats" (and that kind of hat called by different names) for many years and used to make them in Hunter Orange. Now I can't seem to find any.

Anyone out there know where I can get a good cold weather hat in Blase Orange? Something that is of good quality?

Some on the net say "one size fits most" and I have not had any luck ever buying something like that.

Yep.....probably an overkill for most parts of Texas but wool's hard to beat up north.

I'll put in with the wool, and tight ear flaps. I have Stormy Kromer type.

Looks like the orange is currently sold out but I'm rather partial to this one.
Website says more blaze orange in stock soon.

I have a similar hat from OR, it is my favorite and works well under hoods. On Saturday we depart for a month in Wyoming and Idaho, I have narrowed it down to some where between 5-8 hats and will probably buy at least one while travelling.

When hair is lacking hats become an obsession.

I have used a bandana to pad the top of a winter cap.

I have a couple of what I call neck warmers, a stocking cap with the top opened up, and resewn, when it's real cold I pull it up to my nose.

I like a merino wool balaclava topped with a baseball type cap chosen for the day's activities.

I've got too many to be able to offer one suggestion.

"Warmest" might be a double thickness blaze orange/white reversible beanie type, that I have a hard time wearing if much above zero and doing anything active. Cabelas perhaps? 20+ years old maybe. Certainly can't wear it hiking in to a hunting spot, have to wear something else until I slow down.

Multiple wool beanies, if I don't need orange. Best is a handmade felted wool one I picked up in Juneau, some lady in the area made it. Surplus wool USN watchcaps are second best.

Gray wool Stormy Kromer has been getting a good workout lately, down in the low-mid 20's most mornings now, and because it's "breathable" wool, it works even if I still have it on later in the day when it warms up.

Most times I can get by with a ball cap or wool "cowboy" hat like Charlies "packer". I've got a Stetson crushable one, and a couple of other off brand ones.

Always a stocking cap of some sort in the door pockets of the truck and cars for emergency use.

Wish I could find a good fur bomber hat, might have to look for one this winter.

Good luck with your search.

We are forced to wear an orange hat for hunting in PA. For cold weather, I use an insulated hardhat liner with a blaze orange knit hat over it. Yes, bald is beautiful.
Posted By: widrahthaar Re: Cold Weather hat? - 10/14/19

I have one of these and it’s crazy how well it will keep the head warm. The other filson posted is even warmer. I prefer both of them to the Kromers.

But at the end of the day a $15 carhartt acrylic watch cap will keep you as warm as anything and warmer than most.

Hard to beat!

Have one up here now. Works well for milder temps or not blowing wind, to me so far. But when its a bit cooler I go right back to a trapper version since it covers all of my ears and down my neck some. MUCH warmer.

Kromer has its place by far and I like the ear flaps can go up or down, but just not quite enough for true colder and windier to me

And I always have a wool watch cap around somewhere. Plus a nomex fire hood.
