Let’s talk cans. I never really been interested in them until now. So I have a Ruger GSR and an AR that are threaded already.

Who do y’all recommend as a manufacturer? What rifle caliber? How and where does one begin the tax stamp process?

I have a Yankee hill. It works great with suppressed loads. It is about like a BB gun

My girlfriend way back had some nice ones, but she was a butterface.

The ones I’ve used make me want to get a TBAC ultra 9

That’s funny. A Texan using something named yankee. 😂. But I will check them out.

There is a company in SD, Dakota silencer? They make one called Banish, multiple calibers.

TBAC

Do a trust, do not put anything bit your cans in this.

Find a class III dealer. Select your can pay for it. You need fingerprints ,photo and pay tax stamp which is 200.00 or 250.00? Then submit it and wait for however long BATFE decides to process it.

I made a mistake and bought a couple caliber specific cans. Should have bought a high quality 30 cal can and use it all smaller caliber rifles.....like on 5.56/6.5 etc with a thread adapter or a can specific attached adapter.

Have a 22 cal suppressor but should have got one suitable for 22 mag and fn 5.7x28.

Cruise the Silencer Shop website.

I'm waiting on my OSS Helix to get out of jail right now. For me it was the low backpressure / blowback that I found attractive as the suppression of most of the top mfg is pretty close. I got a .224 can but if I get another I'll get a multi-cal capable for .308 ish options. Probably will get another OSS, most likely a HX-QD Magnum Ti.

The back pressure complication mentioned above is real. One might have to fiddle with the AR gas settings to achieve reliable performance. I prefer using cans on bolt actions.....less noise and less hassle with tuning and cleaning.

66 days for a form 3 maybe. Form 3 is dealer to dealer transfers. It's been running 10 to 12 months for most approvals. My last one was 10.
Posted By: Whttail_in_MT Re: Cans - 11/17/19
According to NFA Tracker, starting with checks cashed in July there have been several Form 4 Individual submissions approved in 60-100 days. Is July when the paperwork changes went into effect? There's additional information (some required, some optional) on the new form that I did at the end of October. I hope it really is getting faster.

Sell what you CAN and get one. You'll think you're a genius later...

My boy has several of them. If I wanna chootum i will go to his place.
Posted By: scoony Re: Cans - 11/18/19
My 22 suppressor took 9 months exactly. The check for a Silencerco Hybrid 46 was cashed back in May. I expecting it sometime Jan- Mar time frame. Going to use it on a AR 5.56, AR 6.8 SPC, 308 bolt, and possibly on a 338WM if I decide to get a Ruger #1b barrel threaded (oh the horror). WIll also work on my 9mm if I get a threaded barrel for that.

What? Speak up. I'm near deef from years of hunting without... LOL

I have 4 Lane suppressors (one still in time out) 22, 556, short 30 and scorpion magnum.
http://www.lane-products.com/
All are solid titanium, yes they cost more but you only buy them once, you have to live with them forever.
they are the only ones I know of that make an all titanium suppressor, they are amazing to say the least. I have a ruger 22/45 lite with a burris ff3 red dot that I just love, kids have a blast shooting it too.

Recently I looked over a Rebel suppressor at my LGS
https://rebelsilencers.com/

They cost considerably less than the Lane, but are a little bigger and not as sleek in design. That said, I was impressed enough with it to give it a chance. I won't get it until spring though I'm guessing.

That NFA tracker has never been right, my wait times are usually a month longer than they estimate at least, sometimes more.

What’s the difference between a Form 1 and Form 4? I’ve been interested in picking a few up now that my younger ones want to shoot. Had a chance to compete using a gas gun from
someone sponsored by TB and didn’t but really wish I had just to try it and a 6.5 gas gun out.
Posted By: MLC Re: Cans - 12/05/19
I went through the Silencer Shop and my check was cashed on March 4 and still haven't got it. I did individual so it's been past 9 months.
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Cans - 12/05/19

^^^^ This.

Forget about trying to apply any other logic.
Posted By: hanco Re: Cans - 12/05/19
It took me a year to get mine. Worth the wait

Form 1 is for making your own.
Posted By: satir Re: Cans - 12/06/19
whoever sells you the can will set you right on the paperwork. Amazon sells books on how to make your own, for 223, .22lr, .45 autopistols. I"ve seen ads for .22lr cans for like $200 or less. Here's a forum about cans
http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/index.php
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=how+to+make+a+silencer+for+a+.45&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=how+to+make+a+silencer+for+a+.22&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss

here's the amazon ads. I have no idea why the 223 book is so expensive. Paladin went out of biz and anyone can reprint or just copy and sell it? There's less material in it than the 22lr book, for sure. The author tells you to get the .22 book first, cause he explains stuff in that one that he doesn't cover in the centerfire books.
