I can't imagine fishing that deep. I thought the halibut in AK were deep. WOW
Posted By: kid0917 Re: 1050 ft - 11/19/19
Wow, you must have run 105 miles out to get that deep! smile

I have caught halibut in 50 ft near Kodiak, but usually fished around 125 to 150.

We fished them late season off Seward AK in 450 ft. Hammered some nice ones though. I got all mine on jigs which was fun. They and the lingcod, rockfish really hit.

we ran about 90 miles... this was shake down trip for the 33ft cat my buddy traded into. being able to run 50 mph is nice... granted today it was beautiful almost flat.

now i know why they make electric reels.
Posted By: lvmiker Re: 1050 ft - 11/20/19
How long does it take to reel in 1050' of line? Is there not a machine that would aid in this? How is your phuggin tendonitis? What is a Golden tile fish and how does it taste?

If my questions are irritating or inappropriate let me know but I actually find this very interesting. 90 miles offshore is a long way in a small boat. It really does sound like a lot of fun.

Did a similar trip out of Seward. Jigging for halibut in 400+ feet of ocean water. It's a long haul coming back up.
Reeling up 1000' is work.

I've fished for Rock Cod that deep at the channel islands off California, Gang hooks and a five pound weight.
Can wear your arm out bringing them up, but smoked they are worth the work.

That’s deep! There’s only a few areas around here where you could fish deeper that 350 feet! memtb

Cool Roger !

Beautiful fish and any time on the water fishing is better than......well just about anything.

However......there ain’t nothing fun reeling up 5# of weight from a 1000 feet deep. 😫. I’ve fished halibut at 500+ feet deep and miscellaneous bottom fish in Hawaii at 750+.
