One of the three victims killed was Ensign Joshua Kaleb Watson, 23, who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy this year. He was among the victims slain on Friday by Mohammed al-Shamrani, a Saudi Arabian aviator being trained in the U.S.

In a heartbreaking tribute on Facebook, Watson's brother wrote that he 'saved countless lives today with his own.'

'After being shot multiple times he made it outside and told the first response team where the shooter was and those details were invaluable.’

i carried a 380 Llama thru most of basic and AIT (Mp, at ft garbage, GA) I'd have to hide it in my shirt when we stripped down for hand to hand training. You can play the game and die, or you can cover your butt. It's your decision.

This young man is a “Hero” in every sense of the word, and represents the finest of American youth. Let us “never forget” him, or the thousands of other Americans that have given all for “Our Republic”! This latest act of terror really struck a chord with me. When I was there from 06 through my retirement in 08, I had an average of 1250 Ensigns,2nd Its from USMC, USAF and a host of countries. One of my greatest pleasures was addressing every new class as they started their first week of academics at the "Puzzle Palace" (BLDG 633). That place has been there for over 80 years and it is now forever tainted by this horrible event. <y wife and youngest daughter were visiting my FIL who lives across the Bayou and heard the commotion, sirens and the "shelter in place" alarm over the base speaker systems. I'm still waiting on the names of the other two Americans killed and hope they were not folks I knew whilst I was there. I will wait until this passes, but I have to ask' where were the organic Department Of the Navy Police and the Master At Arms patrols? why did they have to wait for Escambia Sheriffs and not engage prior? Their HQ is less than a quarter mile away....

Yes, but do not forget that Saudi Arabians are buying 400 billion dollars of US military hardware. That kind of deal is not easy to secure, therefore, it would be great shame if relatively minor incident stood in a way of such lucrative contract.

A couple of years ago there was a move afoot to allow us to carry on base....

Like many others here, I’ve carried bombs that would destroy several city blocks, carried missiles that could down an airliner 100 miles away, fired a gatling gun firing 20mm rounds at 6000 rounds per minute and been trusted to take off and land a 30 million dollar aircraft on a carrier in all kinds of conditions, and had a Top Secret (C) clearance, but I can’t be trusted to carry on base. 🤬

Our security guys are a lot farther away than they were at NAS Pensacola.

This young man has my utmost respect and shows our “kids” still have IT! I wish he could have made it here to earn his wings but in any event, he should have them awarded posthumously.

Watson is from here (Enterprise, AL). His father teaches at my daughters' high school, a small school, well under 100 per grade. He may be the nicest man on the planet. Super family all the way around. Thanks Joshua, good job soldier, may we never forget.
