Rocky was the lovingest and most hunt-crazy of dogs. He was a companion as much as the bird dog.

Today was his 15th birthday and his last day.

I'll see you soon, Rocky-Socky...

Condolences, L2S. Always difficult to say goodbye to a member of the family, regardless of how many legs they have.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: The Old Sire - 12/10/19
Sorry about that.

Good, long run for a dog.
Posted By: WTM45 Re: The Old Sire - 12/10/19
Have to admit how much better off we are simply from having them in our lives.

Sounds like he was a good 'un.

I'm sorry you lost your Pal Bruce.

Good Boy Rocky, good boy.

Sorry to hear, Bruce.

I lost my pal in May at 14 1/2. Still hurts.

May they enjoy the happy hunting grounds as much as we enjoyed them.

Nobody didn't love Rock. He was a tank of a dog...big and strong, but he was so gentile, too.

The House Dog's Grave (Haig, an English bulldog)

I've changed my ways a little; I cannot now
Run with you in the evenings along the shore,
Except in a kind of dream; and you, if you dream a moment,
You see me there.

So leave awhile the paw-marks on the front door
Where I used to scratch to go out or in,
And you'd soon open; leave on the kitchen floor
The marks of my drinking-pan.

I cannot lie by your fire as I used to do
On the warm stone,
Nor at the foot of your bed; no, all the night through
I lie alone.

But your kind thought has laid me less than six feet
Outside your window where firelight so often plays,
And where you sit to read--and I fear often grieving for me--
Every night your lamplight lies on my place.

You, man and woman, live so long, it is hard
To think of you ever dying
A little dog would get tired, living so long.
I hope than when you are lying

Under the ground like me your lives will appear
As good and joyful as mine.
No, dear, that's too much hope: you are not so well cared for
As I have been.

And never have known the passionate undivided
Fidelities that I knew.
Your minds are perhaps too active, too many-sided. . . .
But to me you were true.

You were never masters, but friends. I was your friend.
I loved you well, and was loved. Deep love endures
To the end and far past the end. If this is my end,
I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still yours.

Only bad part about having a dog in your life.

Bruce,

he's waiting 'round the bend for you:

THE PATH BEYOND THE BEND

Have you ever walked along a path
And looked ahead of you
To where the road turned suddenly
And seemed lost awhile from view?

Think of your dear one living still
Where the road goes on without end
It is only WE who do not see
The path beyond the bend

Great. Now you got me weepy thinking about my labradoodle Reggie again. Had to put her down last month.

I feel your pain. A good faithful dog is a wonderful thing. My Condolences.

In my long life I've been blessed to have had the companionship of many great dogs to love and be loved by them. Loosing them is one of the great pains our hearts have to endure. I think Dogs are Gods lesson to teach us of unconditional love.

Plus 1. Loved the pics, looks like Rocky was a hell of a dog.

Tank of a dog for sure.

He’s likely up there with Ole Duke stretched out on the Clampet’s porch.

Fine dog, sir, and a better companion. Condolences are not enough; sorry to hear none the less.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your companion and friend. I wish I had words to ease the hurt but there are none that could assuage the pain of the loss of such a good and faithful friend. I’m sure the holidays will be a little less bright as you work through your loss but I wish you peace and happiness during this time.

I’m truly sorry.

Condolences Bruce and Godspeed to ya Rocky.

Bruce I'm so sorry. Rocky has to be the sweetest dog ever. Every time I've been at your house he'd come up tail a'wagin and throw his big self across my feet pinning me at the spot.

You knew what was up when I didn't follow you. Could not deny the big guy he was so sweet.

Very sorry for your loss it's got to be tough when you have the sweetest loving dogs in existence.

Just my guess but I'll bet it's as much great dog paired with an astounding owner.

I barely knew him but he is missed.

L2S, on this day, my heart in turn, is sad for you. I We know all too well the loss of a dog. I have but a young Collie lad for a dog now, but like you, have lost many over the years, each truly indeed as valuable a friend as the other.

I thank you for your kind words back in March, at the loss of my old Milo, and offer my heartfelt condolences to you on this, what surely must be a right rough day...

I'm sorry for your loss, Bruce.

I'm glad you had him in your life, and I'm sure he was glad that you were in his life.

They are reflections of their owners, so we can judge the character of a man by the character of his dog(s).
